Well, and maybe we're not talking about the same threads/forums at all. Are you talking about the Mitchell in Command thread, Über?

It's the Mitchell as leader thread. And wow, a couple of those guys are really condescending there. I already had to place someone named "Darth Buddah" on ignore because he sent me the rudest private rep comment. Talk about name calling, yeesh. I really wonder if arguing with them is even worth it. They obviously can't stand the Sam Carter character. For whatever their reasons are, I highly doubt we'll be able to change their minds. Zoiks.

Well after fussing at you for insinuating he's a mitchell fanboy/anti-carter fan, he turned around and called me an UberSamfangurl...which got my dander up...I'm afraid I got a little...ah...snarky:

Wow Darth. So you fuss at others for painting you as a fanboy for Mitchell or anti-Carter fan...but then arrogantly and hypocritically paint me with that same brush. Thanks for clearing things up.

And a friend of mine actually told me you were a fair and balanced free thinker because you supposedly equally dissect the characters.

So what Sam did is unforgiveable to you but not to me...and therefore that makes me a fangurl in your perfectly balanced mind right?

I never handwaved Carter. She screwed up. My point is they all have screwed up over the years with devastating consequences. And I can come up with justifications for each of them because I'm first and foremost a fan of the show and of all the characters. But since what Carter did was so much worse to you in your eyes, I'm a fangurl for trying to understand it as it relates to the characters I've known for so long.

But again. Thanks for clearing up your perfectly balanced position.

I just wanted to come by and say 'Aveo Amicuse'. Unfortunately my family is going through a bit of a crisis at the moment and I don't think I'll be around much anymore. I'll try to drop by and lurk when I can, but more than not, I won't have much time to post.

There is also a very good chance that I won't be making it to Gabit this year. If you have asked me to give anything to Amanda at Gabit, could you please send your requests on to Chopin Gal or Coley. I'm sure they would be more than willing to help out. I am very sorry for just bailing on so many of you but unfortunately this is a situation for which I have no control. There is a very small chance I may be able to go, but I probably won't know until the last moment.

As I have already purchased my Gabit ticket, I really hate the idea of the ticket going to waste. I'm going to try to talk to the coordinators of Gabit to see what their refund policy is like. But just in case, if you would love to see Amanda at Gabit and you don't have the money to go, please send me an email. I can't guarantee you the ticket as I'm not sure they are transferable, but if I'm not going, I'd really like to see someone from Samanda have it. Please keep in mind I only have one ticket and I may not know until Oct 26th if I can go or not.

I just want to thank you all for all the wonderful times you have given me and the encouragement you have given me with my fanart. You really are the Best of the Best. Each and every one of you will always be in my heart and thoughts even if I am not here with you.

Just watched 48 hours, and I couple of things about it that I thought of this time around:

Sam is a massive Geek!

McKAY: Major.

CARTER: Doctor.

McKAY: I guess we got off on the wrong foot.

CARTER: What probability factor did you use figuring that out? - NERD ALERT!

The other thing is that Hammond is indeed a very awesome character. Willing to give up his career-high job if it were to buy enough time for Carter to rescue Teal'c. Go Hammond! I really hope we get to see more of him in the 2nd half of Season 9

And Hammond rocks. I don't like to compare Landry to Hammond, but I'm gonna do it anyway: I'd like to see Landry do more of this later on this year. He's already sort put his neck on the line with the Lame Committee. But I'd like to see him take it one step further, with little to no hesitation. I know that's a bit of a tall order, but I have hope for the guy.

i remember the first time i read a person's post saying how stupid sam was in that ep, i kept thinking 'sam? stupid?'. then i saw the ep, and not once did *i* think she was out of character. why?

if someone from sam's past came back to manipulate her, i'd not be worried about sam staying focused. if a family member returned to manipulate her, i'd not be worried. if one of her team mates (janet?) came back to manipulate her, i'd not be worried.

but sam came back to manipulate sam.

you can't get worse than that. every thought could be counter-acted on. every flaw could be used against you. every strength could be turned around to be your weakness. every feeling could be twisted, turned, warped.

sam manipulated sam.

okay, she was a replicater. baaaad. but she was bred from the one good replicater alive and herself. yes, fifth tortured her, but turned around and let her go because of his humanity.

so replicarter shows up.

wanting to die. asking to be killed.

then explains why, which includes running away from fifth's mental torture, and not wanting to witness fifth/replicaters destroying the galaxy.

sam was curious if replicarter could help stop fifth. but she was also curious about this 'what would have happened to me if i wasn't rescued' part of her.

replicarter played the victim. she wanted to die. she'd been tortured (*just* like sam) and if she wouldn't be killed, she wanted to be saved the trama of seeing 'her' galaxy taken over by the reps.

and when this wasn't enough to convince sam, she used the 'mind meld' thinger to let sam *see* what kind of hell she'd been through.

she pushed every right button.

she played every scene perfectly. every flaw. every weakness. every cord.

(it's like this is the part that's ignored/forgotten)

sam was manipulated completely, in only a way that *she*, herself, could do.

it wasn't until i read ppl's opinions that i realized that some ppl thought sam came off as a dupe or idiot.

it's not like just someone popped up and cried foul about fifth's treatment, and then said, 'believe me sam!'

sam listening and trying to help replicarter could a- help them save earth/the galaxy from the reps, and b- save this 'victim' of fifth's that sam knew *personally* had gone through hell.

about the only moment that i felt sam wasn't being written right in this ep was when she wanted replicarter to be brought to earth. but other than that, *i* was buying sam's state of mind and decisions.

i *SO* wish replicarter hadn't been taken out of the picture. and especially by daniel. if replicater was going to bite the bullet, it should have been by 'her' victim. sam.

This is exactly how I feel. I know some people feel Sam was out of character in this episode, but if you really examine it, you can see what traps she fell into and why...and how it was completely within her character.

People keep saying how could Sam let her in her mind. They should have known that Sam wasn't about to let a replicator of any kind in her mind again. So they shouldn't have been surprised when Sam said..."We weren’t in my mind – we were in hers." She answered that when Teal'c asked if Replicarter figured out Sam's true intentions...which were to get as much intel out of Replicarter regarding Fifth and the replicators as they could while RC was there and then they'd have to destroy her. "I figured we didn’t have anything to lose. Like you said, either way, we can’t let her live."

You know I didn't even have a problem with her idea of bringing RC back to earth. Because remember at that time, Fifth was still on the way to the Alpha site and they hadn't finished protecting themselves against the threat he posed. They needed to ensure that Fifth hadn't found a way around the cipher. They've had enemies on the base before if you will recall for all sorts of purposes. So Sam saw this as yet another time when they'd have to have a foe on the base short term to ensure their safety long term again with the ultimate understanding that when RC had finished being useful, she would be killed.

But of course this all relied on the facts she was handed by RepliCarter...which turned out to be false. Why? Because Replicarter knew exactly how to manipulate her. She knew exactly what buttons to push...what memories to stir. Remember this..."I’ve never even set foot on Earth, but I have this image of lying under the willow tree in our back yard. It’s a sunny day, but when I close my eyes, the wind in the leaves sounds exactly like rain"? RC wasn't taking a picturesque stroll down memory lane with Sam because she really shared Sam's emotions (it's clear later on she felt that Sam was essentially a sentimental goody two shoes who would never reach her full potential because of the limits she puts on herself...like morality), she did it to manipulate Sam into believing that because they because shared all the same memories, the memories of experiences that made Sam who she was, they must indeed share the same soul, if you will, and that they were so much alike that as Replicarter said..."What Fifth didn’t realize was the things that drew him to you were inseparable from the things that made you reject him and the life he was offering..." Such a logical argument from someone Sam thought she knew so well.

Sam didn't realize that just because RC had her memories, it did not mean that she shared her morals or came to the same conclusions and choices as she had made. Sam became who she was as a result of the choices and experiences in her life...but to Replicarter, they were merely concepts to be exploited and used for her benefit.

She also knew when to pull the betrayal card..."Now you’re lying to me the way you lied to Fifth." Sam hated what she did to Fifth and believed there was something redeemable in him...something that came again to life when he released her...and RC knew that this one card would hurt the most.

Sam is not a dupe. Sam is not a sucker.

BUT the one person in the entire galaxy who knew how to manipulate Samantha Carter IS Samantha Carter. That should tell you something right there.

And I soooo agree. I hope however that RC survived the blast...that perhaps Oma pulled her away from it too...and I'm really pulling for a Carter/RepliCarter showdown.

This time, Sam knows what to expect and would not be fooled again.

This time...she'd kick some major RC butt.
