I doubt it. I don't think the region 2 disc, which was the long version, had a commentary.

I know it's irritating not to have the commentaries, but I'm less upset about that than the shortened version of Threads. The people who do the commentaries do so without compensation, from what I understand. I think we've been incredibly lucky to get as many commentaries as we have. I buy a lot of boxed sets, and SG-1 is the only series that I can think of with commentaries on almost every episode.

On the other hand, I can't think of any reason to release the shortened version of Threads, unless as someone suggested, they intended to release it later and make more money that way.

i'm so greatful to have had 4 years of commentaries on every episode, and such fantastic extras in general on the dvds. stargate dvds have always been the best quality out there. and i would understand if they couldn't do one for every episode this year, as they are trying to run 2 shows at the same time, they all have family lives of their own and not enough hours in the week. i'm so greatful for the respect they have given fans over the years, as proven by the dvd extras.

but i would still be very disappointed without commentaries and other extras as they are the primary reason for my purchasing the dvds. for the first time in the last 4 years, i didn't buy the individual dvds as soon as they were available. i decided to wait for the boxset. now this was partially due to affordability and partially due to the lack of commentaries. however i do remain tremendously greatful to TPTB for putting so much into the shows and into staying in touch with their fans.

staying on topic, i was so exited the first time i got a dvd with an amanda tapping commentary, and equally excited for every subsequent commentary she has done. the first one, i think was for ascension.

oh my god! half the people on that blog commentary are completely insane. how can people be so blatantly insulting and downright rude? i really can't believe the kind of attitude that a lot of those people have. i feel so sorry for joe that he's going to have to read that kind of drivel considering how much time he generously devots to his fan base.
what is happening to stargates online fandom!?! everyone seems to just attack the most likeable and generous people. so many people seem to hate my favourites. (for example joe and sam). i really can't get over how ungracious people have been lately. its like someone took away my rose-tinted glasses or something.

i'm really quite bothered by the comments on that latest blog. can you tell? should i bother reading previous ones? take into consideration that i don't want to have a stroke or heart attack at the age of 23.

Yeah, its mostly just people *****ing about their DVD's missing the extended Threads version. But don't worry too much about the haters there, they get shut down pretty fast

If we do get a commentary for the right version of "Threads" I hope that Amanda is on it. I love her commentaries!

My two cents.

Joe's blog is not a place for the uninitiated. Sadly, it has to some degree become a well-fortified position from which each segment of fandom can spew insults and rhetoric at each other. And, if it has proven anything, it's that said segments are rather proficient at getting a rise out of each other. I think it's a bit entertaining myself.

All that said, I also think that Joe's blog is still worthwhile. Like it or not, Joe and the other producers have clearly indicated that they do read those comments. They do listen to fandom (if only for a laugh). And I think that Joe appreciates the candor and directness of some of the posts. Moreover, the blog is certainly a better tool for controlling spoilers than his question and answer thread has ever been. Besides, I think he was fed up with the innanity and repetition of the questions he was receiving. I know I was.

Joe is a big boy. If he couldn't take the mortars being lobbed at him, he would have disabled the comments portion of the blog long ago. I have thus far refrained from leaving comments, as I don't have a blogger account and don't particularly relish the "anonymous" option. However, if they do actually replace the shortened version of Threads with the extened one, then I'm going to have to thank someone. Joe and Ivon are on that list.

So, to put it bluntly, I don't feel sorry for Joe. He puts himself out there. I do, however, wish that people would be a bit more polite and certainly more eloquent when they do comment. That's not human nature, though.

Just to help with your blood pressure!! -- almost every fanbase has been attacked on Joe's blog--and only rarely has it been negative toward Sam. Alot of the comments have been pro-Sam on the leadership issue actually. Unfortunately, Mitchell, Vala and Jack have been hit pretty hard by a few fans. Sadly, a number of the comments have been very nasty about lots of various things at times. I think this is what can happen when people are allowed to post anonymously (although many of the anonymous posts have been fine).

Thanks for posting this. I emailed both Sony and MGM, but have yet to receive any response. My Season 8 box set is sitting completely wrapped on my bookcase, taunting me as I walk past with its brilliant red cover, lovely picture of SG-1, and its surprisingly satisfying portrait of Ra on the back. I'm not sure what the details of the exchange will be, but I'm now willing to wait a few more days before tearing it open and shoving New Order into my DVD player. Again, thanks.

48 Hours works for me, but I've already gone over it with a fine tooth comb for one of my stories. Which is good, since my SG-1 watching group isn't excited about watching Avalon II again, so we're starting on my Xena DVDs during the break instead. I know, some of you will be horrified. But it is courtesy of Xena that I'm in fandom at all...

So when shall the 48 Hrs discussion begin?

Greetings all - what a crazy week this has been and it's not over yet. First parade of the year for one of my bands tomorrow - so it will be an early morning tomorrow.

Question - Did any one else on this thread get a survey from NBC this past week by way of email? I received the notice on Wednesday and took the survey. The survey started with some generic questions about favorite types of shows and favorite channels. The last 30 or so questions were all about SciFi Friday night shows. A few on Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. Then questions about SG-1 and Atlantis. The first questions were multiple choice questions then it asked for opinions on both the Stargate shows. This was followed by multiple choice questions on all the main SG-1 characters from Season 9 - after this it gave me four that it said were picked at random to do short answer questions on - my four Carter, Mitchell, Vala, Priors. The last question was what would I like to see in a 10th season. This was one of the longest entertainment industry survey's I've ever been asked to take and it gave a lot of room for you to fill in your own answers as opposed to all mulitiple choice questions.

first off, does anyone else have a looong time to wait for the new window to come up after you hit 'quote'?

Holy Crap! I hadn't ever looked at the comments to Joe's blog before. Are they always as bad as these were? If so, why does he ever come back? I can understand people complaining about the show, but some of those went beyond that to personal attacks. It reminded me of the juvenile garbage on some of those other forums. I really didn't expect to see that on GateWorld.

Anyway, good job in defending Sam, Mary Beth!
