I agree with everyone's thoughts on RNT and Shroud. (I would expand on that statement, but I don't think I'll get to it tonight.)

    So here's the next ep.

    By Treknik

    (Summary from Stargate Wiki)

After SG-1 hands the Lucian Alliance yet another humiliating defeat, the Alliance leader Netan decides that he's had enough. He puts a huge price on the head of each team member. In no time, the galaxy's best bounty hunters converge on planet Earth.

Unaware of this, SG-1 takes a well-earned break from saving the universe. Carter attends a technology conference. Daniel conducts research at a major library. Teal'c is off-world, aiding his Jaffa brethren as they struggle to reconstitute their government. And Mitchell attends his high-school reunion in small-town Auburn, Kansas — with Vala along as his "date."

Teal'c and Daniel are the first to be attacked. After a bounty hunter's ambush leaves Teal'c with minor injuries, he springs a clever trap and captures his assailant single-handedly. Daniel, meanwhile, looks up from his books to see an aggressively flirtatious woman — holding a gun on him. He escapes outside; she pursues. She's about to force him to surrender when a bus wipes her out, instead.

Gen. Landry warns Carter and Mitchell that they may be next. Indeed, a sniper takes aim at Carter as she steps up to the podium to give her presentation at the conference. Luckily, she's presenting the Chimera Optics Projection System — a version of an Asgard hologram device. When the bounty hunter puts a shot straight through her, he perforates a hologram. The real Carter, backstage, quickly moves to take him down.

In Kansas, so far, the only mayhem has been thanks to Vala. While she's made a sincere effort to pose as Mitchell's friend from the Air Force's accounting department, her casual references to interstellar weapons smugglers and her over-the-top professions of passion for Mitchell are freaking out his friends and family. Mitchell can live with that, though … until it interferes with his attempts to sweet-talk his old high-school crush, Amy Vandenburg.

Then Odai Ventrell, a famed bounty hunter, crashes the reunion party and takes Mitchell, Vala and the other guests hostage. He plans to wait until the rest of SG-1 inevitably comes to the rescue and then nab the whole group for one massive bounty. Carter, Daniel and Teal'c are headed straight into a trap. Worse, any misstep will kill not only them but Mitchell's entire graduating class.

I was disapointed with the story of Sam in the AU. I don't mind that she married Mckay in it, but I did think it was a missed opportunity to have Jack there-but-not-there. They could have had one 30 second shot of her over a computer screen, looking him up, finding out he was deceased a long time ago so they never even got it together there... I dunno. I would have been totally in keeping with the S9/10 ambiguity and very sad but made sense. She checked up on everyone else, after all!
      Thoughts on The Shrould
So together... yes, that's all. Shallow I know but it's what I thought when I first saw it.
Excellent people produce excellent work...*applauds M.Wood*
RNT: Of course she would have looked him up. Her teammate and CO for 8 years? Still over the SGC in Washington? Even if you don't believe in the 'ship there would be platnoic reasons to inquire.
The Shroud: gave us that scene in her lab with them shoulder-to-shoulder (a change from previous times he sat in her lab with her...at a respectful distance). LOVE even that little hint. Matching wedding rings would have just MADE that scene (with no other verbal commentary)

AGREED!! I was so upset that they didn't even mention Jack in the AU world. Surely she would have asked about him, even if they aren't a couple (though, they are!)
      Shroud
The way they stood shoulder to shoulder in that scene... SO MARRIED

I hate that Jack isn't ever mentioned. He WOULD be talked about in real life, simply because he was (and we know STILL IS) such an integral part of their lives.
      GRRRRRRR.
Its almost as though they were afraid to mention him too much and succeeded in going too far the other direction. He's in Washington fighting for the SGC, and drops in to visit (probably talks to each of them on the phone periodically). Even if you don't take the tack that we believe S/J were 'together' at this time...there was enough reason to talk about him otherwise.

So here's the next ep. ...'BOUNTY'...
Ok...I actually liked this ep. The team seperated and hunted. Even Vala going with Cam and embarrassing him with his parents and friends. Sam's clever trick at the end to fool the bounty hunter. I thought it was original and kinda quirky. Meeting Cam's family was nice.

        About Bounty:

I enjoyed this episode! I'm one of the few people, I think, that like Vala. (I think that's the only spot where Hlndncr and I disagree!) The show had a different feel after she showed up, but I liked her energy. Since I never thought that Sam wanted command of the unit (think of the paperwork!), and since I believe that she wanted to have the freedom to go back and be with Jack from time to time without having to worry about the command, I thought that she was content with how things shook out.

Anyhoo--I liked this one. I liked the homage to "Grosse Pointe Blank" (one of my guilty favorite movies), and thought the Sam/Dr. Lee portions were cute. I really have nothing more cogent to say about it, other than this one is one of my highlights of the season.

Guess I'll have to re-watch Bounty! Don't remember it sticking out when I first saw it, but I have only seen it once (when it originally aired) and I was too annoyed with the lack of anything Jack to really enjoy most episodes in season 9/10... I also don't care for the Ori (though I do like Vala, too...sometimes)

I liked Bounty. I enjoyed seeing Cam's parents, and Vala interacting with them. And I thought Daryl was adorable. He was so funny and cute.

Getting caught up. My thoughts on the last few eps.

              Road Not Taken

Like others have said, I was really annoyed that Sam didn’t try to ask about or look up Jack. From her perspective, he should be the one that would be in the best position to help her. And Sam isn’t the only one who should have mentioned Jack. They were trying to figure out how to power the chair. Who were they expecting was going to use it?

So in my head, Jack died in Antarctica after destroying Anubis. Sam, insane with grief, inexplicably marries McKay (which I suppose is better than marrying ). Her life and career are down the drain and yet again a less qualified man gets command of SG1 (as a major?!).

I don’t know why Sam doesn’t ask after Jack at first. Maybe because all the other answers she’d gotten had been bad and she’s feeling very isolated and alone. She’s distressed and doesn’t want to give away her feelings, especially if things aren’t the same between them in this reality. Then as things go on she realizes he must be dead because the Jack O’Neill she knows would never allow things to get to such a point. Or if he did, he wouldn’t be the man she loves at all.

This ep has so much unrealized potential. For example, Landry and Hammond aren’t really evil. They’ve just gotten in over their heads and caught up in the whole big mess and can’t get out. The real bad guy is some unknown political sycophant. I like the idea of Landry gone bad. Or if it has to be a political crony, why not Woolsey?

But the end of this ep is the most disappointing. Sam appears to be trapped in a hopeless situation and then all of a sudden they just so oh well you’re too much trouble; so you can go. The end. I was thinking what the heck just happened? Answer: nothing!

Wouldn’t it be great if somehow AU Jack swooped in and got her away from the bad guys and helped her get the resources she needed to find a way home? That would have been a much better story.

              The Shroud

First can I just say that I find the whole mother/daughter hitting on the same man very icky!
As happy as I am to see Jack I wonder why he’s there. What makes this instance some much more important than any other crisis? What exactly is his role there? I also noticed at one point he called Landry “Sir.” I thought they were buddies and Jack was the boss or at least even in rank.

The actual plot has more holes than a slice of swiss cheese. And I won’t go into it all. But I never really believed Daniel was a bad guy or that they would kill him. So it all happened about as I expected it and there was no suspense. (And Vala sitting on Daniel’s lap was just silly and annoying. I’m sorry Aka but I just loathe her character. Except when she’s with Tomin, because I love Tomin! I may be developing a bit of a crush on Tim Guinea. )

              Jack & Sam
I don’t get why Jack talks about him not being used to being the “worry-ee.” He has been getting lots of practice since Sam returned to the SGC.

I like seeing Sam and Jack together again. They are sitting together in the briefing room and there’s a nice comfort between them. The scene between the two of them in Sam’s lab with them standing shoulder to shoulder is nice. They are very informal in their body language, but still rather formal speaking to one another. Sam still calls him “Sir.” I didn’t expect her to call him Jack and lean over to kiss him (although I would not have objected), but they were alone!

              Bounty

Vala slapstick. No surprise to any of you I’m sure, but not my favorite. All of the humor reminds me of the over the top juvenile humor of Avenger 2.0. I could have lived without that being repeated. And as much as I don’t care for Vala I think this show even does her character an injustice because she’s supposed to be so street smart and adaptable, but she ends up looking very stupid and inept.

My first thought on this show is that SG1—the premiere team at Stargate Command—is once again travelling by ship, and blowing up space corn. Don’t they ever use the gate anymore???!!! And don’t they have anything better to do???!!! Like exploring the galaxy, searching out allies and technology to protect earth, and fighting off alien bad guys!!! But NO, they’ve become the intersteller ATF. LAME!!!!

Now the whole bounty hunter angle could have been so much more interesting if one of the bounty hunters had been Aris Boch. He could have gotten in touch with a member of SG1 and let them know what was up and helped them turn the tables on the other bounty hunters and send a message to Natan that they are not to be messed with. That might have been fun.

So I like Sam at the conference where we get to see just how well respected she is in her field (and that she is a damn good shot). But when Dr. Lee mentions the single scene (because a physics conference has all sorts of desperate single women—I have a very good friend at a physics conference right now and I know for a fact she’s not there for the men) Sam looks like she’s about to say something. Perfect opportunity for her to say, “Bill, I’m not actually single.” In my mind that’s what she was thinking. That and, “Does your wife know about this?”

                (Summary from Stargate Wiki)

While Carter is “working” in Washington, D.C., the rest of SG–1 travels through the Stargate to what appears to be an Egyptian tomb. Unfortunately, appearances are deceiving: the tomb is actually a display in an alien museum. Worse, the museum is hosting a swanky party. Worst of all, the dialing device next to the Stargate turns out to be a replica. SG–1 can't power up the 'gate and dial home.

Their hopes of lying low until they can solve this problem are dashed when a couple of party guests stumble across them. The guests race back to the gala in a panic, shrieking that "rebels" are attacking the museum. In no time, security guards are shooting at SG–1. The team is forced to defend themselves, wounding one guard and locking down the museum so no one can go in or out.

As alien SWAT teams rush to surround the building's exterior, Mitchell, Vala, Teal'c and Daniel realize that they have unintentionally become hostage-takers. There's no way to convince the cops of the improbable truth that they're merely peaceful explorers from another planet. If they surrender, they'll just be arrested, or worse. Instead, they must pose as the much-feared rebels and stall for time until they can find a way home.

Luckily, one of the hostages is a scholar named Cicero; he has theorized that the Stargate is an interstellar transport device. Overhearing the team's discussions, Cicero concludes that they really are aliens and offers to help. First, he gives Daniel a list of rebel-style demands to make to Quartus, the no-nonsense hostage negotiator who's in charge of the scene outside. Then, as Teal'c guards the hostages and Daniel reluctantly grabs the radio to do his best rebel impression, Cicero escorts Mitchell and Vala through the museum to search for artifacts that could power up the 'gate.

Mitchell and Vala discover a Goa'uld naquadah bomb that might do the trick — if it doesn't blow up — but they're interrupted when an overzealous museum guard named Jayem bursts out of hiding, hoping to nab them and become a hero.

Teal'c and Daniel, meanwhile, are striving to convince both Quartus and their increasingly skeptical prisoners that they are seriously dangerous men. As if all that's not enough, an order suddenly reaches Quartus from the planet's ruling viceroy: negotiations are over. The cops move in to storm the building.

                SG–1 is out of time.

                  Bad Guys

Sam is obviously staying in Washington to spend some time with Jack. This show aired right around Valentine’s Day so I based my Valenship fic around it.

*Insert shameless self-promotion here* The Perfect Accessory

Really, if Sam would have been there, it never would have happened. Mitchell took his advice from Vala! Yet another reason why he should NOT be in charge. And why Daniel (or Teal'c) went along with it I can’t even fathom.

And once again we have an episode that just ends. They are trapped in a hopeless situation and then everyone just gives up and they all go home. Why don’t our heroes ever do anything clever or heroic anymore to get themselves out of a jam? They just have to depend on universal lethargy, which is what I feel when watching many of these episodes.

I'm thinking that the reason that I like these sillier episodes is that, without Jack, the last two seasons seemed unreal to me--not like the SG-1 that I'd grown to love. I took my enjoyment where I could.

Good point. I do think the last two seasons became almost farcical, which can be fun if that's all you're expecting. And I admit that Bad Guys does have some funny moments (see Oma's banner for example). I especially appreciate that they mixed up the pairings so it wasn't a D/V show. But even taking it for what it is, couldn't they have come up with a better ending? Something more clever and exciting than, "Ooops, our 44 minutes is up; let's all just go home and say nothing ever happened"?

I just kept wanting my real SG1! I'm afraid that means that S9 & S10 will just never measure up for me.

Well, I have a lot to catch up on!!

                          Counterstrike

Generally, I didn't *mind* this one although agree that Sam being left on her own is very strange. However, it's Sam's mistake with the shields that saves them from the Dakara energy weapon, and she saves pretty much everyone else so I'm OK with Sam in this one. I do think it would have worked better had they foreshadowed the new Jaffa leader and more of the Jaffa issues somewhere in the opening episodes. But the throw away lines about Langara and Hebridan drive me nuts too.

                          Company of Thieves

I like this one in parts but the Daniel/Vala stuff seems more reminiscent of early S9 than since her return, and I also get annoyed that it's eventually Vala who saves the day with jimmying the crystals. Personally, I do think the writer missed the opportunity to show a really kick-butt Sam and ended up relegating her to damsel in distress/technie person even if ultimately it is her plan that they use to take back the ship. By contrast I think this is one of the best episodes for Mitchell. The other thing that I do like is that Vala clearly considers Sam a friend at this point and I do enjoy her spacing Anateo.

                          The Quest

The Quest Part 1 is just wrong on so many levels - it tries to do fantasy and fails. I agree that the reactions to Ba'al are just too muted - same with reactions to Adria really.

Part 2 though makes up for Part 1: Sam hits Ba'al! And you know that punch was about more than just him being a chauvanistic pig. And I love Teal'c's expression in the background - he's so proud and approving. And I also do love the Arthurian mythology stuff.

There is the question of if Sam is Guinevere who is Jack (options being Lancelot and Arthur)? I personally see Jack as Arthur.

                          SGA's The Return

I admit that similarly to The Quest that Part 2 is much better than Part 1. I agree with hlndncr on the timeline. I think the bridge test falls before The Quest but Jack going back to hold Woolsey's hand falls just as Sam heads out on the mission for the quest and it's only when she gets back that she and the rest of SG1 learns of the Atlantis situation. I like to think that SG1 are planning their own rescue mission when they get the call from Atlantis that the city has been saved and Jack is OK.

I do love that Jack all the way through is thinking about Sam. And I love the "hot shower, hot toddy and..." line - presumably the end was going to be hot blonde!

                            Line in the Sand

I really adore this episode on so many levels. The opening with Vala is annoying and I do think Sam is clearly annoyed with her (but I do think Sam is the type to berate in private rather than in the open and that's the reason why she doesn't tell Vala to be quiet - I also think it's really Mitchell who should do it as the team leader). But Sam's relationship with Landry is very different to the one she had with Hammond and I think she knows no matter how many protests she has, he'll order her to do it anyway.

I actually love the Vala/Tomin stuff too. Love the story of the line in the sand and Tomin's confrontation with the Prior where he's beginning to see the difference between what is written and what is preached.

I love the scenes when Sam gets shot and her conversations with Mitchell. Yes, there is an element that Sam seems too willing to give up given her past behaviour but I'm willing to write this off to her being in shock and a fair amount of pain. I do love that she still saves the day despite the injury.

And password is fishing! She and Jack are so together.

                            Road Not Taken

I love the idea of this one more than the execution - although I love that Sam is completely fantastic all the way through.

This is one where the fact that Jack isn't mentioned is so obvious and blatant and frustrating. I also think that Sam having gone through her immediate team and listened to the horror stories just can't bring herself to ask. I do think when she finds the photos of her wearing a wedding ring she asks Lorne not so much because she thinks she's married to Lorne but married to Jack. And her face when she realises it was McKay is priceless. I also think that this is the universe where everything went wrong in many ways for the team: Cam gives up, Vala is in prison, Teal'c has abandoned the Tau'ri, Daniel is still missing, Sam ends up married to McKay...so it's an expression of 'we never want this to happen in our universe.' I also think Jack was either left in stasis in Antarctica OR he died there.

                            The Shroud

This would have been a good episode for them just to have said one sentence to confirm the relationship but no. *sighs*

Anyway, I like this episode a lot although I think the end denouement of not seeing whether the weapon worked means its very anticlimatic. There's a lot of good Daniel-Team stuff.

I adore the scene in Sam's lab where Sam and Jack discuss the Supergate: they're just so comfy with each other; so in synch throughout the whole episode. They act like a couple even if it's not confirmed they are. I also think Jack's comment about being the worry-ee is actually meant as another hint. Because it comes across as a personal discussion really that Jack is having with his friend Hank about being the loved one left behind, not so much O'Neill discussing sending men out into battle with Landry.

                              Bounty

So I like this one even if Cam's Clark Kent-esque Mom and Pop background is all a little too Smallville for me.

The scene with Sam and Bill is very funny. Clearly Bill got divorced at some point from his wife! But it does look as though when Bill is off to try and hook up, Sam is about to say she doesn't need to.

                              Bad Guys

I actually like this one too. It's my "see what happens when Sam isn't around to keep the rest of them in line" episode.

The whole Teal'c and Daniel keeping the hostages in line is hilarious. And I love Cam and Vala's double act with getting the bomb hooked up to power the Stargate.

You can just tell the whole way through, each team member at some point was thinking "I really wish Sam were here."

I also like the fact that clearly Sam is having an extended stay in Washington obviously to be with Jack!

Sam is obviously staying in Washington to spend some time with Jack. This show aired right around Valentine’s Day so I based my Valenship fic around it.

I agree with the bolded (I have a whole scenario in my head around this that will one day get written ) but I actually really like 'Bad Guys'. In fact it's probably one of my favourites of the last two seasons, despite it not even featuring my two favourite characters. And not necessarily because it's particularly spectacular plot wise but because I find it quite funny. The humour of the early seasons is part of what kept me watching - I like the fact that the series doesn't always take itself too seriously. And no, it doesn't have Jack's wit or quips, but I thought Daniel really had some good one liners. It's all quite ridiculous actually... *shrugs* maybe that's why I like it?
