Call for Write-ups
We'll be doing something a little different for the last two seasons. Because of RDA’s departure there is very little Sam/Jack shippy goodness to discuss in these episodes.
So we have selected the following episodes for rewatch and full review:
S9:
Avalon 1 and 2
Origin
Beachhead
Ex Deus Machina
Ripple Effect
S10:
Uninvited
200
The Quest 1 and 2
Line in the Sand
Road Not Taken
The Shroud
Bounty
Bad Guys
Unending
If there is interest we will also do a Sam in Atlantis discussion and end with Continuum.
We’ll be starting after Easter (April 24), and I'll be putting the schedule together shortly. If you’re interested in doing a write-up of any of these episodes, even just one, please PM me! Let me know how many episodes you'd like to do, if there's any dates you know you won't be around, and if there are any episodes you particularly do or don't want to review. And if there’s an episode you would like to review that is not on the list just let me know and I’ll be happy to add it. Thanks everyone!
Thanks!sigpic

Hlndncr, I would do a review, but I'm afraid I don't have time right now. Although, when you get to season 10, school will be over for me and I would gladly do one then.
Favourite shippy episode?
Hmm... Man, this is a tough one! But in this nostalgic time of the end of Stargate, I think I would go with my all-time favourite episode.
Heroes.
It has evrything in it that made me fall in love with Stargate. Part 1 is full of humor. It has an awesome teamy felling to it. Part 2 has the team in action, showing how in sync they all are with each other. It has the death of Janet, showing us a harder part of the job. 'Cause it's not all about flowers ans roses.
Ship-wise, it has THE hug. Neck nuzzle and holding tightly to one another and everything. One of the strongest moments for our couple given the fact that she was with Pete at the time.
So yeah. I think that's it. (For today at least. I tend to change my opinion often.)sigpic

Well thanks to those who have volunteered to help with the rewatch. It doesn’t look like we are going to have enough people to do reviews for Seasons 9 & 10 without putting an enormous burden on just a few people. So I have come up with a new plan that I hope will be acceptable to everyone.
Instead of assigning one person the responsibility for a full review of each episode, we’ll treat it more like an episode of the week. I’ll put up a banner and a brief synopsis (probably taken from the GW episode guide) on the appointed day to open the discussion. Anyone who would like to do a complete review or just add a few of their own thoughts may comment at any time during the discussion period (or before, or after; we don’t hold a lot on ceremony around here). If it looks like the discussion is lagging or we have lost interest I may move things along rather than stick strictly to the schedule.
Here’s the schedule to start with:
Season 9 & 10
Rewatch Schedule
May 2 – Avalon 1&2, Origin
May 9 – Beachhead
May 12 – Ex Deus Machina
May 16 – Ripple Effect
May 19 – Season 9 Wrap-up/Intro. to Season 10
(A little breather and time for commentary on the many episodes we’re skipping over)
May 23 – Uninvited
May 26 – 200
May 30 – The Quest 1&2 (I’m giving this a whole week in case anyone would also like to watch and comment on SGA: The Return 1&2)
June 6 – Line in the Sand
June 9 – The Shroud
June 13 – Bounty
June 16 – Bad Guys
June 20 – Unending
June 23 – SG1 Wrap-up and Ark of Truth
(Another little breather and time to comment on this season or the series as a whole)
June 27 – Sam in Atlantis
July 5 – Continuum
July 11 – And they lived happily ever after!
(Final thoughts on Sam and Jack throughout the entire run of Stargate, in all its incarnations, and where we believe they are now)
Meanwhile, I’ll give you a topic.
At the end of Moebius SG1 is at Jack’s cabin fishing. When Season 9 begins Jack is gone and Landry is already in his place. Dr. Lam, Landry’s daughter, is the new CMO. Sam is on the Prometheus. Teal’c is on Dakara. Daniel is about to leave for Atlantis. Vala has been in touch.
How did they get here? How much time has elapsed? What happened in between?
Discuss.sigpic

The Siege Part 2 definitely takes place post Moebius as they used the ZPM to dial Atlantis and send Col. Everett's reinforcements and have written orders from Jack.
The flashback portions of The Intruder on SGA take place in the gap between S8 and S9 because Landry was overseeing the review of the Atlantis Expedition with the participation of Col. Caldwell which means that Daedalus has also returned and Caldwell would definitely want to oversee what would be the ship's first intergalactic voyage under its own steam, so at least three weeks between The Siege Part 3 and Avalon Part 1. Also, I think it was this trip back to Pegasus that Daniel was scheduled to leave on before Vala happened.
My guess is that the events of The Siege Parts 2 and 3 happen with Jack and SG-1 at the cabin. And when they got back the guys spent at least the next two weeks getting ready to report to their new duty stations and Teal'c leaving for Dakara. My guess is also that just after Jack leaves for Washington, Landry, Sam and Daniel would greet Weir and her team after they step thru the gate from Atlantis to begin the review. Sam and Rodney would confer over all the data he brought back from Atlantis which is why she left for Nevada a month after Teal'c left for Dakara.
Those are my initial thoughts on the timeline between S8 and S9.Last edited by iiradned; 21 April 2011, 12:44 PM.No Sam w/o a Jack and no Jack w/o a Sam.

Further thought on the gap between S8 and S9 would be that Sam and Jack would have had "The Talk" up at the cabin and a physical relationship would probably commence after Sam takes over at Area 51.
My shipper heart believes that Jack visited Sam for you knowin Nevada before his afternoon of beer and chess with Landry in Avalon Part 1 and after his F302 ride with Mitchell in Origin.

I suppose I should answer my own discussion question; although I haven't thought it through as thoroughly or in as much detail as some others have. This means that some of my notions may be contradictory, but that hasn't stopped me yet.
So here's a few ideas I have about what might have occurred between Seasons 8 & 9.
First off, I don't think anything happened between Sam and Jack at the cabin. For one thing, I don't think they would have done anything with Daniel and Teal'c there. For another, I believe Jack was still Sam's CO. While they may have both decided individually, and communicated to one another in their usual cryptic way, that they were going to be together, I can't see them tossing out the regs now after so many years of honor and restraint.
I do think Jack planned to retire. (In actuallity, even if Jack had then been made the civilian head of the SGC he couldn't have dated Sam. The AF rules don't permit officers to date civilian contractors who are either under their jurisdiction or oversee their work.) I like to believe that it was Hammond's retirement, perhaps for health issues, and the President's insistance that pushed Jack into taking a position in Washington instead.
That's where I think the real window of opportunity opened up. Because at this time the Homeworld Security position wasn't an official AF command (as it must have become in later years). It was an advisory role to the President. Seeing as that would have taken Jack out of his command position, it would have left the applicability of the frat regs in doubt.
(As for Jack's orders to Atlantis, that was never under AF jurisdiction. It was an international expedition formed under the Anartic treaty and under civilian control with IOA oversight. Jack would have been acting under Presidential authority, not through the AF chain of command. (Although certainly the military would have been consulted and involved in the internal decision-making.))
In my world, Sam and Jack got married shortly after his move to Washington because there was no good reason to wait and one very good reason to go forward quickly. The situation with the AF regs could have clarified leaving Sam under Jack's command again (as I believe it eventually did with the creation of Homeworld Command). A valid marriage trumps AF rules and it was the surest way of preventing those rules from ever coming betweening them again. I think it's what they both wanted eventually, and they are practical enough to see that marriage now and dating later was going to be their best way forward.
When Sam left the SGC I think it really did have to be for Cassie. (Unless Sam just really wanted the R&D position, and I don't see that at all.) Otherwise I can't see her leaving her command of SG1 to move further even away from Jack. She might have considered a move to the Pentagon, but I don't think there was any position there that would have furthered her career; so Jack would have never allowed even if Sam hadn't dismissed the idea herself. So in my mind Cassie is in school at UNLV because again Sam taking a position at Area 51 and moving away from Colorado Springs makes no sense to me if Cassie is elsewhere.
That means Teal'c left first for Dakara, which was already mostly set up at the end of season 8. Jack was then called to Washington. Sam and Jack got married. Sam moved engineered a move to Nevada when it looked like Cassie needed the support. And that left Daniel thinking, "What am I sticking around here for?" So he arranged to go to Atlantis, which he had wanted to do for some time anyway.
But I have no answer for how Vala tracked Daniel down and got in touch with him at the SGC, or why after what she did in hijacking the Prometheus, Daniel would have chosen to meet with her and General Landry would have permitted her on the base. Frankly, Vala never made sense to me as a character and I think her presence was an unnecessary and, to me, an unwelcome distraction.sigpic

I suppose I should also mention that Fandimonium is coming out with an SG1 novel that is supposed to address the gap between Seasons 8 & 9 called Transitions. Reading the preview chapter, I don't hold out it addressing any of these lingering issues in any satisfactory way for us shippers.
While the end of the franchise means that MGM may be moving in the direction of allowing greater scope of character development in the novels, I don't think we'll see a resolution of the ship from that quarter any time soon.
(And for the record, I don't care if we do see it in the novels because I don't personally consider them cannon. They are just expensive fan fic. And often the free kind is so much better and truer to the characters and the spirit of the franchise anyway.)sigpic
