Just got an email from a friend from Los Angeles. In the Times business section this morning, there is an article saying that MGM studio is in debt for 3.5 billion and they are releasing only one film this year which is Fame and 4 next year. The Hollywood insiders don't think the company can survive. They did not say anything about DVD productions so I'm not saying they aren't going to make the movies but things aren't looking good for MGM. IMO if you have the money this is the time to invest and buy what we can from MGM so they can make to produce our movies. I know lots of us have hard feeling with things they have done in the past but now it's the season for all good Stargate fans to join together and prove what we can do, to help them out of this mess. This is an absolutely selfish reaction to the news because I do want closure to S/J and the Atlantis story line.

This has been going on for quite some time and actually, I'm not worried about it because the stargate movies are cheap and have a reliable fan base. If anything, they're more attractive to MGM than ever since MGM probably doesn't even have to go to the bank to finance them. The only thing I worry about is if MGM is sold off to another firm, it could delay the filming of the movies. But the assets of MGM (including Stargate) won't disappear- they'll be bought by someone else.

I'm actually kind of happy with that article because MGM still has its head above water. If the head honchos at MGM have any sense at all they'll get those two films into production ASAP, because they'll make money on them, which is more than you can say for a lot of productions.

But, if they don't even have the money for Stargate movies, they might as well sell off the assets now, because they're doomed.

There's a lot MGM can do to remain financially solvent. If they want to do it is another matter. I'm not worried.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., scrambling to refinance its $3.7-billion loan, said in a statement Wednesday that an audit showed the struggling studio to be in "full compliance with all of its debt covenants."

The results of the audit are welcome news for MGM; nonetheless, few in Hollywood believe that the debt-ridden company can survive much longer in its present form without being sold or merged with another media company.

I think trupi is right that it's time to show support for the franchise. Money is tight everywhere, and any company starting a new project (whether it's entertainment or something else) has to be very aware of that right now. Buying Stargate products (like the COTG recut) can't hurt. Who knows? Strong sales on it might be just enough to push a doubting studio into moving forward.

Here's the link to the page of the L.A. Times, with the article, if anyone wants it (although trupi posted the entire article). tsaxlady posted this link earlier today.

The things that really concern me are that the studio hasn't issued a new movie since December...and that even that Three Stooges movie they thought would be so big is uncertain. On top of that, add in that a start date for shooting movie #3 was pushed back, and I think there's at least a reason to be concerned.

I agree that Stargate is cheap and easy to make, and has a reliable fan base. But it sounds like MGM is spending almost nothing right now.

I'm I still think there's a good chance that we'll hear more at Comic Con.

Hm. Interesting to have your eyebrow shaven... they probably could have just let it grow over and no one would have been the wiser.

A final reminder that party time is less than four hours away...spoiled, as always, in deference to those who aren't interested...

It seems to me he also got injured in the same place in Broca Divide, didn't he? He had one of those butterfly bandages over that eye in that episode, but apparently no scar resulted. And then he again got injured there in the 1969 episode, and the scar became visible after that.

I loved they way they handled his injury in the Broca Divide- (from a medical view- personally, I hate whump since it used to be my job to fix it) so I remember that injury- it was below his eye. They made it gradually change throughout the episode, just like it would in RL. Almost made up for the miraculously healed broken leg from Solitudes.

I must have missed that part. When did his leg miraculously heal?

Why, within just a couple of weeks! Not even a limp in the next episode. He should have been off active duty for four to six months.

Between episodes. (Solitudes and There But For the Grace of God, Season 1.) There would only have been a week or two between missions, so his fractured/broken leg, punctured lung, and all the other injuries he sustained in Solitudes healed really, really fast. At that time they were probably going on at least one mission per week (or maybe two weeks).

I guess I always figured that the team was down about 6-8 weeks. Leaves room for Novelizations and/or fanfics, eh?

Is there a timeframe mentioned in the ep that follows Solitudes?

You see I'm with Pol on that. I always think that, unless a specific stated timeframe is mentioned in an episode, there's really no telling how long it occurs over. Some episodes clearly cover periods of time more than a week or so (Hundred Days, Beneath The Surface, Red Sky, Paradise Lost etc. ) and others clearly take place in a couple of days at most (48 Hours, Descent, There But For The Grace Of God, Entity). There's no mention of what happens in between but if we assume the 20 - 22 episodes are spread out over the course of 12 months (52 weeks) and some are bunched together and some weeks and months apart then there is still enough time in between to cram in recovery from injury etc.

I'm sure this doesn't take into account injuries and the various episodes that definitely do take place over the course of several days or weeks, but in The Tok'ra, after Jacob has been told what Sam has been involved in and he asks her if she goes through the gate very often, her reply is something like "a couple of times a week". That's assuming, of course, if all missions go smoothly ... which they obviously often don't.

I always figured it was a longer time between missions as well... 'specally in the beginning.
