No they arent. Their tanks pwnd ours in WWII, but these days things are different. Our abrams tanks are protected by god knows how many inches of depleted uranium armor and in addition to that, it fires depleted uranium shells. It has a pretty good speed when you consider it weighs 65 tons.

The Leopard 2 tanks that Germany run are widely regarded as the best tanks in the world.

On paper the Leopard II and Challenger II are better.
The Leopard II and the Challenger II are both good tanks. Only in battle will the best be determined.

Can i jsut ask you all to stop talking about tanks and ablative armour, this thread is about ship design so if you want to talk abotu tanks then make another thread. Sorry but were a little offtopic and its kiling the thread.

Do you think that it is completely wise to rely on the stargate system to send our troops to where they are needed? Wouldn't it be better to send most of them by ship? Or at least a large force to secure the area around the stargate to ensure that the troops coming from Earth would have a place to fall back on in case of emergency?

Thats why i created the Atlantis and ATS craft's, as a ship based delivery system for large numbers of troops. Rather than relying on the gate.

Technical and Historical Notes:
The ATS were designed to be the primary method of troop deployment within the earth military engagments for the future. the war with the Ori and thier ever growing army meant that earth needed more people on the ground fighting them. Just as the jaffa were the glaactic footsoldiers of the previous generation, earth vowed to make its soldiers the footsoldier of this generation.
ATS is simply designed to be a method of getting a large force of marines or arm personal from our capitol ships to the battlefield, quickly, safely and alive.
in additon to being a transport ship the ATS is also a scout ship, search and rescue ship, "space ambulence" and mobile bunker.
The weapons on the ATS are not formidable but the two different S/A weapon systems make it able to fend off aerial attacks from fighters while giving troops a mobile platform from which to work. There are 3 hatched dirrectly behind the cockpit which give access to the roof, these hatches allow troops to fire from within the craft while still being protected by the 'staff proof' plating and glass systems. The ship, while carrying troops can also be used in much the role helicopters are used in the army today and therefore this is a mulitpurpose craft in the trueest sense.
One of its uses in search and rescue, and modification can be made, enhanced sensors, UAV launchers and full rescue gear. ( including teams of dogs and bikes can be taken to the surface) The craft is fully water tight and has powerfull submersive ability ( 800ft below the surface); it also has powerful spotlight at the front to aid in all its functions.
The ATS has been made a compulsary support vessel on all our ships because its versitility is limitless when it comes to ground based activty of any kind.

After the public acknowledgement of the Stargate programme and commercialisation of space, a private investor began looking into space travel as a business, he hired the best scientific minds to create a luxury cruiser which would accommodate paid passengers. They designed the Angel, a large scale ship capable of holding a vast number of passengers in the most luxurious way possible. Using technology available and using government contacts the Angel is the most advanced commercial cruiser available.

k, it's also very big...it may be cheaper and more economic to produce lots of smaller ones, but it's a matter of opinion

Its good but way too large. A small ship, the size of the deadalus would be more suitable. If your intention is for it to the space borne equivalent of the cruise ship, the deadalus is much larger than any on the ocean today. Just make it reasonable. If its luxury, then its exclusive, and if its exclusive then you dont need lots of room for lots of people. If you can charge 100 people an extortionate amount, but only get those 100 people, then you have wasted 4900 spaces on board. Wheras if you make it designed to cater for 100 high class, rich and powerfull geust that expect to pay for what they get and you can deliver, you would probley make a much higher return on your investment.
Also where is this cruiser liner going. Because anywhere in this galaxy is a maximum of 5 days. Barely enough to savour the delights of such a craft, if its any good. Best idea would be to set up a Sister "hotel" somewhere in Pegasus, you get a long journey on the luxury ship and then Pay to explore a new galaxy in extreame pamper and comfort, probley on the most stunning totally unique planet in the universe.

If your going for luxury, make sure its luxury, luxury doesnt mean big, its means luxury.
