It's only hear that that find a difference between the real atlantis and the ALX Atlantis. But it's still incredible.

    You know that's a project I could take up...mapping atlantis....Hmmmm.

Just a quick thing i was fiddling with last night while running off multiple renders for the Challenge....

      (BIG IMAGE)

In taking my Ehyalius ship and enlarging it, i've decided to try and form a fleet of ships using the same design style... as i'm already going bigger, i thought i'd try going smaller, so i took the basic Enyalius hull and shrunk it...to make...

      The Midget...

      crew-6

      Weapons-
      2 tri-barrelled cannons
      10- Mk II rail guns

      Two Ion thrusters
      Asgard hyper drive and Shield
      Long/Short range sensors and communication

which means that your models are wrong scale.

this is wher i got info:
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan
        http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/City-ship

which of course makes my previous post about atlantis being 3-4 times larger because the sat is just over 1 mi. in diam. whereas atlantis is 4.8 mi. in diam,. or larger.
No you misinterpreted what was said, I actual quote is "It'd be like searching every room in every building in Manhattan." - McKay. My scalings are the most accurate scalings I have seen. My statement still stands.

sorry i got so argumentative jus trying to defend my first creation.
Im sorry if I come off as an ass but I greatly dislike things that are way overdone (fanwank)

i agree with you bob your atlantis scaling is def very acurate and following it leads to a very acurate looking atlantis model as evident by my own.

also about the fanwankage i have already sent a pm his way explaining a few things so hopefully he has read it by now.

and do you want to map my model?

well colb, yes I see you lurking, looks like we missed it...again!

Everyone is protective over their design they have put alot of work and hours into it, however always remember the chaps here and on CASF always try to help. We endevour to pass on helpful hints and tips to improve your model and your skills.

ALX will tell you the same, he only started modelling a few months ago, he took on all comments and now he is producing some really great meshes.

...and as for bob's scalings, in my book they are fact; although I do think the daedalus is bigger.

Bigger as in how big? The MGM archive claims 235m long, I scaled it out on CAD software at around 275m long, I have read anything up to 500m, which is absurb, so I'm interested to hear from you guys, what your scaling sprites come up with?

about 630m IMO, but I think Bob put it at 525ishm I cant remember.

Remember MGM just footed the bill for SG, the graphics dept was not the art dept so they didnt have a ruler...so the size differs from every ep, using scale to define power!

Ah the power of guess work. I did a thorough scale up on CAD using four screen captures and different known entities, such as windows, people, F302's etc. Every scale out I did, came to less than 300 mtrs, I think the 275m was the longest, and when you look at the X303 at 195mtrs, you can see where it's coming from. That's the difference when using CAD, you actually get definitive sizes. For example the CE340's that Alx and I are working on are only 135mtrs long, and when you see them next to an actual 800mtr long ship, you'll understand where I'm coming from. 235mtrs is 905ft, that is almost as long as a Nimitz class carrier, and that is BIG. Crew 5000, aircraft 75 to 90. A space vessel over 300mtrs and only carrying 16 aircraft? The math don't add

...but a Nimitz doesn't have a hyperdrive and energy production to create a hyperdrive window allowing travel to another galaxy rather quickly.

I do put it over 500m and so do many other people...
