I just realised something... fairly interesting. Something that might shed new light on the topic of whether Mitchell is alive or not.
These two quotes contradict each others. According to Star by Star his 302 was still (mostly) intact, yet according to Earthfall it was completely blown up. Now, as the former leader of SG-1 Colonel Mitchell is worth more to the Der'kal alive than dead. And if SG-1, or what used to be SG-1, new that the colonel is still alive they'd try to rescue him...
In Paris, the wreckage of Colonel Mitchell's F-302 burns brightly, still smoldering, as a gunship appears in the rooftops overhead, its light swiveling to examine the downed craft
Turning their attention back to the conversation, they catch Daniel slowly asking the question they've surely all been wondering; has the resistance movement... found any trace of Cameron Mitchell? A sad silence descends over the room, and Makepeace quietly says that their French comrades dedicated a solid two months to scouring all of Paris for him after his F-302 went down ("Star By Star"), but they turned up nothing. His fighter's crash site was little more than an alley strewn with twisted metal and cratered cement.
