Huh, it looks like it should be small enough.

Damn GW pic sizing kb rules.

Nice rant Laurie! The bit about children being empty vessels is very true. Fill them with love, kindness and joy and you will get out the same in spades. I do like the idea of donating old toys to charity/needy children. I have to say though, when Ben misuses his toys, I tell him I'll take them off him and give them to needy children. He gets very upset at the thought... but he does look after them after that. Until next time anyway. Needy children and "A police man will come and tell you off" are pretty much the only necessary discipline tools in this house.

Jumble, after the red stripey top boy it was more of the same. He was horrible. How does a child get like that? No, don't answer that, I've seen it in practice. One child at the end told his parent's to... uh, do something very rude I won't repeat. It made me sad to see people treating their parents this way, and sad to see parents humiliating them by filming them for TV this way.

Benjabubs still has fruit in his stocking. Tradition dictates a satsuma, a walnut (and this is where the nutcrackers always go missing), a magazine, some colouring pencils and a cheap nasty pound shop toy that will break in minutes. It was good enough for me.

      Good Evening WooHoos!

nabbed some of that lovely Martin picspam...need it for Martinmas don't you know!

It has warmed up considerably here. Tomorrow it's supposed to reach 77F. My classroom is still a bit chilly, but not as bad as last week. I wore a nice suit today and that kept me reasonably comfortable. Just a few more days and then it's off for a two week winter break!

      Today's bits:

I so agree with Jumble - killing off Druitt/Biggie would be the worst thing they could do....it would most likely be the final season of the series....he is much to integrated into the show. The only reason he would leave is if he had so many committments he couldn't even work in one episode. And even though he is very busy, I don't think that is the case. Look at RyRo, the man is doing so many things but still manages to be in most episodes. I think Chris is just being mischievious and stirring the pot some which fits into his personality, now doesn't it!
        THIS.

        Back to work...

Yep, it's all about what we teach them - children are like sponges, they suck up everything they see and hear, so it's up to us to make sure they are surrounded by love and good examples.

I actually liked the Jimmy Kimmel thing. Mostly. The banana girl was awesome, just as the one of the sandwich where the brother told his sister to be happy with it! Oh and the one where the dog stole the sausage from the little boy!
I didn't think it was really cruel, it just shows how spoiled children these days are.
The boy in the red shirt that went CRAZY because of a weird gift was insane though. How spoiled can you be

My parents gave my brother when he was little, accidentally a toy he already had. He went with his head in the chimney and said that "santa was stupid" (it's on camera). We still make jokes about that every year....but he didn't have any issues with it later on, so I don't see the harm in this joke for the kid.
(my brother btw never got a different toy and just used it as a double. (it was lego))

I think where the problem lies here is generational....I am (shall we say) many many many years older than you. My mother would never have done anything like that (and I say that with great glee ) She raised us a lot differently than many of the current generations. Manners were very important and not speaking back to adults. I also didn't get gifts accept for birthdays and Xmas and every once in a while if I was good and my Mom wanted to give us a special surprise. Santa always gave us a book - which I loved the most. I had plenty of toys (non with a plug) but the outside playground was my favorite place to be. She was usually a stay at home Mom until I got to the six grade (she worked one day a week at the family business and then went to work full time) and my Grandmother was around a lot until she died (I was 5). Were we spoiled - somewhat - my parents wanted to give us things they didn't have. But we didn't throw tantrums, weren't allowed to yell at our parents (didn't even think about it) and we were pretty much like all my friends.

Today's world is harder to live in.....life is so much more complicated. Drugs and booze are everywhere and easy to access. Kids that get into trouble, get into a lot worse things then were available in "my day". I got to grow up slowly, today, with cell phones and computers showing you what is happening before you are ready to learn it makes you grow up way too fast. However, you have so much more knowledge available to you now and so easy to access - the computer. You have so much more wonderment now - so many things to stimulate the mind. Were we better off, in many ways - absolutely and also absolutely no way.

Today's world is a lot harder to live in, harder to grow up in, and way over crowded with too many people, but today's world offers more tolerance to differences, more places to see and great new experiences to enjoy. Which is better....whichever one you grew up in because it's the one you are most familar with, whichever one you live in because it is the one you have. The truth is as much as we are soooooo different in life styles we are all still the same.....individuals, doing what we can to survive in a world harsh and luscious and rich in so much opportunities to grow. Our world is as rich as we allow to be, great as we allow it to be and full of so much wonderment as we allow it to be. Each rich in the opportunity to achieve whatever you can. Today's world offers so much more and also so much less than when I was a kid. It offers us different things, different opportunities, in fact, different worlds - non comparable worlds.

I am lucky because I have lived in both - as are you lucky because you have lived in this one and the new one we have yet to see. It is what we call "Life and living life!" And the one biggest thing I have learned from this new wonderful world of ours - TOLERANCE! May you all have it in your lives.

(Philosophy hat - old age wisdom hat - new age wonderment hat now removed)! Pheeeew!

Now - please - let's talk about Martin and fun and other such important things!

                          Hello WooHoos.

I really found all your points on children and the way they are raised to be so interesting. I don't really have that much to add - we didn't have much money, so - but I will add to the Christmas talk, I was only allowed to give Christmas cards to those that gave me one (which always confused me, how did the other person know to go first?). So, I spent all of December taking one card to school at a time. And, Cags, I always got a satsuma in my stocking! Always. Still do, actually, because between the three of us (sisters) we each do one stocking, and always put fruit at the bottom of it.

                            Hello, everyone.
I haven't been here for a long time and I don't know if I should feel ashamed. My RL kept me busy. My life changed, A LOT! I finished school and I started working in pharmacy. I go to work every day, I have to (and I want to, yeah, surprise ) spend some time with my family and my dog. I am always happy that I can be on FB or Twitter for a little moment at least. I didn't forget about you, don't worry.
Yesterday, Jumble wrote on my FB wall that she didn't see me here for a long time and I promised her I would come among you today. So here I am. Can I join you in celebrating MartinMas? If you are able to stand me here, I can bring some Martin artwork with me and I am also going to bake sweets and cookies. No, no .. it's not a bribe, I swear

How have you been, all of you?
And one important thing at the end of my message.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND MARTINMAS !! Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
                            *hugs*

I'll be honest, I laughed a little bit at the girl with the banana, but the rest of them were horrible! Especially the boy in the red striped jumper. Kids and Christmas
