I get what she's saying, but really, get her to watch S2 because it really rounds out the 'lesser' characters and to me really equalizes them. S1 of any show concentrates on the 'main' characters, of course it does. But then in S2 you get more of the others, you get to know them and it really makes a difference to how you see the whole picture.

You see you could argue that any character that invokes a strong reaction (positive or negative) is a good thing fora series.
On SGU, I have to admit, I loved the way S1 ended... was gagging for S2 to start but... first episode left me not exactly leaping through hoops.

I was just frustrated at the way the baby thing resolved - or didn't. I knew they'd not go with having the kid on the ship, and I'm glad they didn't - but I'm not thrilled with the idea of the Ancients somehow having some involvement here and there. It all felt a bit cobbled together after such an amazing cliffhanger).
I also have issues with not gelling with any of the characters yet. I don't hate any of them and I find some of them - Rush etc.- quite fascinating, but I don't find myself actually caring much about what happens to them at the moment. I'm not sure if that's a symptom of the fact that nobody is really safe from being bumped off and I'm scared to start liking someone who'll die next week or not. But it says something that I'm more "into" some of the minor characters than I am the main cast. Oh well.

As for Sanctuary, yes, MOB, I completely understand what you're saying about the mythology. Although, oddly enough, I was a massive X Files fan and hate the mythology episodes. They were just so drawn out and confusing. And, of course, Chris Carter has a huge stick up his backside.
With Sanctuary though, it's the other way round. I love the mythology stuff, possibly because, while it's cleverly written, it's not convoluted or difficult to follow and it always has a satisfying conclusion or continuation. I sort of wish there was a bit more darkness from time to time (I would have liked to have seen more longevity to Helen's grief over Ashley for instance) but I also understand that you can't make a series week in week out with main characters weeping into their tea.
As for Will... aww.... *huggles Will*. Oh I know he's a bit of a numpty but he's a well meaning numpty. I think the fact he's not an abnormal or is a bit of an outsider is something they may well address a little more in season 3. I mean a lot of what Kali was all about is that isn't it? Characters have to have some kind of emotional investment into the overall situation before they really start to integrate properly (again think Scully prior to her abduction... sheesh didn't Gillian Anderson do them a huge favour by having a baby eh!) I have high hopes for Season 3.

I think there is a wealth of story to explore in Magnus' grief.

Absolutely! I think that's another thing that marks Sanctuary out as different from any other show I've ever seen.

I'm a bit on the fence regarding the mourning/lack of mourning for Ashley thing. We saw Helen's devastation in Eulogy, and when it was touched upon in Next Tuesday the impression I got was that, yes, it'll always be there, but that she keeps it private most of the time because it's just too painful to bring it out. Look how hard it was for her to actually come right out and say to Will "Next Tuesday is Ashley's birthday. Please don't go away because I need you to be with me". And from the point of view of the show, I agree with what Cags said, too much on screen wood have been a mistake.

I love Sanctuary. It's my favorite show on TV right now. But I do agree MoB... I think Magnus needs someone with the same strenght she has, and from what I read, there just might be some of that in Season 3. Now, I also like the character of Kate. But she is young and although strong in some ways, she wouldn't be able to stand up to Magnus nor is she a competitor or competition. So here's hoping they give Magnus a good run for her money (as the saying goes).

As for the grief part, I also agree. As stoic as Magnus is, she needs to show a little more vulnerability and the lose of her daughter would be the best way. I have a friend who lost her youngest daughter in a car accident. It was terrible for her and she still suffers from the loss after 2 years. Now she isn't the "stoic" personage that Magnus is, however, it is your child and that just isn't the way of nature to have a child go first. I think they need to have her deal with it again somehow. Let something happen that causes her to breakdown, even if it is only in private. I don't care how "old" or wise she is suppose to be. It was her daughter!

Now, with all that being said....I still can't wait for a week from Friday when it will be on again!
