Thanks for that. Pretty much proved my theory on the commentary I definitely won't be buying it.
Well if you want to see it I could bring it along to the Shipmeet, since I have bought it I really liked it too, but it is basically just an improved version, nothing stunningly new or revelatory.

Thanks, but I think I'll pass
Nothing I've seen or heard about it has changed my opinion.
Spoiler:
You say that the Sam in the new version is more like the person she developed into through the series, but I just can't see how that can be seen as an improvement since she had to have somewhere to develop from. The way I see it, changing anything in CotG must mean that the rest of S1 won't follow on properly.
I guess I might be considered wrong to judge something that I haven't seen, but I just feel that seeing it wood change things for me, and I don't want that
I still feel that the original is what it is, it's part of the SG history and no matter what they've done in the recut, they can't change history. Just IMO *shrugs*

Brad does say in the commentary (or the feature, I forget) that one of the big reasons he did it was to lose the awful chopped about and pieced in movie score and another but reason was to lose the reproductive organ line (he does go into that in some detail in the commentary actually).
Regarding Sam:
Spoiler:
Well I don't know, there is still development for her but I wood not look on this as a pilot for the series, rather a stand alone movie (which Brad continiously tells us is what it is) so, with that in mind, character development through the series is irrelevant. It all but eliminates the "trying to impress Sam / reluctant to have her on the team Jack" dynamic if I am honest so... yes, if you then play that forward to episodes like Emancipation etc. it makes them make... no sense.
In and of itself, and if you look at the original version as a standalone movie then this is a much better edit of that tale; As a pilot for an ongoing series though? Probably not.

You're just convincing me more and more that I don't want to watch it
Nothing I've seen or heard about it has changed my opinion.
Fair enough

Spoiler:
Oh I don't mean she's like the Sam we get at the end, just that she's more consistent with the Sam that develops, less with the chip on her shoulder. Which when going back always felt a little bit OTT to me -Sam always had that feminist side, and need to prove herself etc, and the recut version hasn't lost that, it's just taken it down a notch which makes it more believable, more sympathetic, and more Sam, IMO.
I do know what you mean though about changing history, and I understand where you're coming from. I kind of feel it's a shame in some ways, but it's not actually that different, so it doesn't feel (to me anyway) like too much has been lost. It's more a slicker version of the story we already had But everyone's entitled to their own opinions and the new version doesn't have to replace the old one after all

But.......... ok, I feel very strongly about this, and I'm well aware that I seem to be the only one that's really anti the whole thing, so I'll just stick to 'I don't want to watch it' and leave it at that
You all know I'm a huge fan of OBPTB, and I wood strongly defend Brad's right to do the recut, but for me it's just wrong.
For those that haven’t seen it yet, it’s like what? I gotta say, who are they? Who hasn’t heard of it? And for those that haven’t watched it, it’s like come on! And for those that have watched it and love it, it’s like see? That’s what I’m talking about with those other guys ok? So talk to your friends, let them know, so they’ll start watching it. To everyone in general, S1 was us throwing a hot potato in the air and doing this (demonstrates juggling) and catching it and that kind of stuff, and we’re going oh, whoa, what can we do what can we do? Now we’ve seen the finished show its like wow, let’s make it better. So S2 is up here, it’s huge compared to S1. And S1 for those of you who haven’t seen it is amazing! So watch it. No excuses. Come back in like two hours!
Who are they? Who hasn't heard of it?
I completely understand the reluctance to see the new version of CotG. I liked the changes but I know many will not.
