Notice how well SGA did, and then look at a show like Monk which pulls in double the amount of viewers. Atlantis yet sells double the amount of DVD's, interesting, huh?
This is another reason why MGM will want more seasons of Atlantis. Just like how Joe answered my question.

Why do I feel Atlantis is better than ever? It seems season 5 will be the best out of 15 SG season!
How could the franchise become bigger? They should "risk" an SG-1 movie. If they get 15-20 million dollar, than they can make such movie, what is bigger than a DVD movie's budget, but even if the critics or the viewers won't like it, than they can win back their money from DVD sales. But what could be a better scenario? They make a big profit, so the actors will get bigger paycheck, the producers will be happier, we will have better and more action packed movie. I think an SG-1 movie could earn even 80-100 million dollar around the world. Than the next step could be that they integrate some million money back to the "normal" TV series, so Atlantis and / or Universe could get bigger budget to make more CGI shot, film on different locations, which could upgrade the quality, so the rating would be better etc. But they could make the next SG-1 movie in every year, so they could never have financial problems again. Maybe I am only dreaming, but this could be the best scenario for everyone in the next 5-10 year."I was hoping for another day. Looks like we just got a whole lot more than that. Let's not waste it."
"Never underestimate your audience. They're generally sensitive, intelligent people who respond positively to quality entertainment."
"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all."
