The Anti Season 4 Thread (Spoilers). For complaints and misgivings ONLY.
Mallozzi revising his statements never fails to amuse me as I search back in the blog of !doom. (I generally avoid it, but I find it amusing when he contradicts himself and replying to questions without even a real answer. I also like the cast pics he posts... But mostly the former.)
First he says there would be no romance in season four. There are no ships. Then there was Rodney/Katie, but that was going on for a long time now. And now we have Keller and her weekly romances. Ronon. Rodney. Shep better watch out, as could Radek as she might come up with some proposterous accusation of sexual harassment. Maybe she'll nab Woolsey and just stick with him. The two whiners can keep themselves company
I don't know whats going on with his "no romance" policy in season four. It's causing havoc amoung shippers everywhere. Must I say, shippers are generally easy to please with those unovert signals between their desired pair. The implied, unclear signals are preffered by the whole of the fandom because shippers could interpret it as what they wish while others can take 'em as they go or ignore them. One thing that POs people is the shoving down the throat of Larrin/Shep and in Quarentine Keller/Ronon. Please. They were kissing. Thats more than implied. Or, you can always go with Keller is a loose woman, but that brings us into a whole new territory.
Through years 1-3, yeah Shep kissed both Teyla and Liz, he kirked a couple times, but romance was left alone or at least a bare minimum. This year when M&M shows up it's canon-ship galore, despite Mallozzi (claiming) to share the belief (as I do) that down-your-throat romance kills a show.
The whole Ronon projecting Melena onto Keller and TPTB admitting it makes this all the more unsettling....
(sorry, just had to get that out of my system. Time to eat.)
poor teyla was ignored for so long it will be very difficult to make up for all the lost time to develop the character further...which would also mean taking away time from "golden boy McKay" and John "the flirt" sheppard.
next season we get mckay's sister, Woosley coming and no doubt there will be tons of time spent on developing him into the leading lady of Stargate Atlantis.
Thus, after the baby arc is over Teyla will return to her job as the invisible woman of Atlantis.
Chuckle. And we have 14 eps to look forward to.
Re the earlier Teyla discussion, it comes back to the same stuff argued about for both Weir and Carter. When it is convenient for them (Vengence I think) they suddenly drop in that Teyla goes off world and visits that (and presumably other ones) settlement. Couldn't they make a passsing reference to that in a scene she is absent from? The same for Weir - they could have had her off world with trading partners or whatever, and they wouldn't have even needed to show it.
They only drop something in when it is convenient to the story, not as actual development for the character.
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that when they flesh out what they want to cover in a season, they only do it for plots/action. They don't map out where they want a character to be at the start of a season and then at the end of it. With the exception of Rodney, there may a some subtle changes within an ep but then the reset gets hit by the next one. Teyla has been the one to suffer the most in this respect.
Oh and that Farscape? picture - very disturbing. Although I guess I'm not in the key demo for that
SHE is/was a major player, whether you like that or not.
The only episode where she was a "playa" was DUET(probably the best episode to date in SGA. The script was written beautifully and showed David's potential) the rest had no coherence. In a way she is like Teyla, nothing special . She just popped out every now and then to show us that she is still there . Oh yeah, she listened to Rodney's problems . From a sexual point of view, she is attractive, but from a character written point of view they did a horrible job. The main reason Heightmeyer is in every manip is because SGA lacks females and women outnumber 3 to 1 males in fandom .
