I'm not sure it's so much how much screentime they give her, as what they do with it. [...] Frankly, I think they need to drop the focus on Teyla's personal life next year, and focus on her as a member of the team. They need to work from that angle, and start building her up as a team member, start justifying her presense on the team, rather than having her stand around in the background on missions.

Fantastic post as always Killdeer. I would rather see her relatinship with her fellow team members (as a friendshippy-type) rather than a secret offworld affair with a guy that has never been mentioned or hinted at before. I would like a Teyla episode that requires zip background information and maybe not even diging into her background. Just a Teyla episode, here and now. It seems everytime she's front and center it must surround either the Athosians or Wraith telepathy. If they could incorporate that, great, but I want to see something that is front and center just Teyla being affected by something (like buggy Shep or superRodney) rather than rotating around Athosians or super!Wraith senses.

They made that mistake with Keller - they gave us too much backgroundinformation on her too fast, trying to make her a sympathetic character, rather than simply focusing on establishing her as a credible presense in the expedition.

Look at Carson. He was pretty much credible off the bat and other than he was a mommy's boy we knew nothing about his past. And we really didn't need to know - his backstory wasn't what endeared us to the character, it was just him being his lovable self. We had a bit more backstory on Lizzie but it wasn't really required to like the character.

I just watched Sunday and I had to chuckle at Carson's memorial. He had a bigger turn-up of people dead than Carter had alive when she arrived in Atlantis.

That's because Carson is awesome. Everybody loves Carson and if they don't they have a special place in hell. No one would care if Carter died. Or Keller. Chuck should vapourize them while he has the chance.

I wish they would just let her go... really, I think, that there are PTB out there who would do a better job writing for Rachel. All this anti-Teyla talk makes me angry btw... I shall have to counter this movement.

Poor Teyla needs some LOVE! Poor girl's been neglected by TP for ages.
