Nothing happened. We're just clearing up things. Going back to our anti-self. Although I did make some Earth shattering declaration about my inability to spell "occasion" without spell check on. Mariel & FH were kind and joined in. Suz posted the link about the new Anti S5 thread that Sky & Mod. CO were kind enough to set up for us. Integra was flirting with Scully and got into trouble. TOF and the rest of us talked about making lovable characters into goofy unrecognizable ones.

    That is all.

Oh Happy Valentine's Day my Anti-buddies.

It seems though that since SG1 was canx (it was the one canx right???) they need somewhere to use them. this in itself wouldnt be such a big problem if there was only 1-2 crossovers per season. having one main crossover closely followed by several others is way to much in my opinion.

I wonder wether the writters are aware that not all fans automaticaly embrace all things sg1 just because this show is its spin off.

I know this will sound pretty selfish but, i want to see sga stand on its own. I dont think thats possible while you have so many crossovers of main and supporting characters from sg1.
That's the reason I didn't watch SG-1 too. I think the writers are aware that there are some SGA-only fans, but I get the feeling they don't much care about us or our concerns. We probably are in the minority.

I also want to see SGA stand on its own. But nowadays I think the show isn't going to be able to stand at all, especially with all the props from SG-1.

It's not selfish. SG-1 had 10 years to shine. Now it was (yes, was) SGA's turn, but that won't happen because the wrong people are at the helm.

I've watched SG-1 since day 1, and I despise what's going on with SGA, and quite frankly, if current PTB had continued SGA as its own show (as it was expected by everyone) instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, we wouldn't have a fractured fandom today.

I've also watched SG1 from day one. I enjoyed the show. Once Jack left, the motivation to watch it religiously went down, but I watched it because it led up to SGA. Once it was canceled I was sad, because that meant no more of that team to watch. I certainly didn't want the cast to come and be part of SGA though. When the two shows were separate, running on their own merit, they did so beautifully. The occasional crossover was OK, because I didn't feel threatened that they would try & take over. Unfortunately, that's exactly what has happened in my mind for S4. The core is gone, with all these new connections & dynamics.

I was watching Siege 1 & 2 last night. Martin Gero/Martin Wood were commenting how SGA was much darker than SG1. It's true! They were already darker, more desperate than SG1. I am not comparing the two to say one was better than the other, just that they were different. Why try and make it the same? The Asuran storyline no matter in what form displayed, still feels & looks like the Replicators to me. Where as we'd never seen anything like the Wraith. I honestly couldn't track back the Wraith to other sci-fi shows. Some may argue, they are another type of vampires, but the threat was very real and omnipresent.

The fact that they were cut off from Earth added another level of desperation. I personally think they connected back to Earth too quickly. Maybe mid season 2 would've been ideal, with connection being unstable.
Oh well, it's not going to be that way every again.

I think you're right. I also apologize for implying that SG-1 fans don't have a problem with the SG-1ization of SGA. I know lots do.

Heroes is great. Season 2 is good as well.

                Yup.

Even as a SGA-only fan, I didn't mind the crossovers in previous seasons. Jack in season 3 irritated me just a little, but other than that, I was fine. But then they invaded Atlantis, slew some main characters, and SG-1 is reigning supreme.

I always miss the bust-ups...but you usually have the play-by-play ready...*iz suspicious* You're right, though, doesn't sound like much happened at all. EXCEPT OMG ANTI-S5 THREAD?! *collapses with joy*

As for cross-overs...I really hate how they're used as a way to downplay and undermine SGA characters.

In The Return, O'Neill was so rude and unfriendly to the team, I thought they should've left him to be killed. They put themselves on the line for him and he says rubbish like 'you're fired' to Shep and [paraphrasing] 'I didn't say it was good to see you' to Elizabeth. Also, how many times has SG-1 gone to save the planet against orders and he's the one insulting their ability to save the day despite the odds? I think the writer had never written for O'Neill before, which may account for this unpleasant aspect of him. The mistake they made with O'Neill in his cameos is that he became a caricature- O'Neill's well-known traits are sarcasm and biting wit; then this was all his character became. He didn't seem *human* anymore, just a delivery system for a crushing remark, no emotion, no sympathy, just a two-dimensional cut-out. [Actually, that happened with Carter as well- except she was all science, rather than the sarcasm]

AND omg, SG-1 has disobeyed higher-ups to go on unsanctioned missions dozens of times and I don't recall seeing them beat up their own side to accomplish it. In The Return, Shep stunned a few of the base personnel so they could sneak off back on to Pegasus- that really shocked me; these guys weren't possessed or evil or trying to take over the base, they were innocent bystanders and he just knocked them out with no hesitation. HIS OWN SIDE. The writers would never have made SG-1 do anything similarly lacking in moral judgment or remotely as unsympathetic and harsh as this.

This may seem irrational- I hated how Morgan le Fay revealed herself to Daniel and Vala on their first trip, though she never bothered to chat with any of the regular folks. Every time Elizabeth insisted that Daniel was imagining things, it made me wince because I knew she was wrong, and that she apologized to him...well, seriously, how was she to know there was a real live Ancient co-habiting with them when said glowy light being never bothered to manifest herself? I know it makes more sense, considering Daniel was on a quest and Morgan had info for him...but even the way she was discovered was dumb- oh, it was odd that the program was able to translate his request? Really? They have aliens speaking English and French [Ladon Radim + 'coup'= WTF?] but his question is how does an advanced piece of technology understand the term he used?!

You know it's time for me to re-watch Voyager. I had skipped many episodes, and never formed a real connection to it. It's time to go back and discover it.

Also g.o.d Heroes is a well made show. Not the best of the best I've ever watched (that honor is reserved for X-files for me), but I like how they reconnect the storyline & the characters. They never leave anyone hanging.
