Keller is so boring, Carson had a great personality, he was funny and geeky. He wasn’t American (no offense to Americans but it’s nice to have a different nationality for a change). He was never one of my favourite characters, but he added well to the overall dynamic and was entertaining to watch. Keller doesn't bring anything to the show. Her character doesn't stand out in any way.

If Sheppard is the guts of the mission, McKay the brains, Tayla the heart, and Ronon the muscle, Weir has always been the mission itself: expand Earth's presence in the universe, while protecting its people against overwhelming enemies. Writing out Weir is tantamount to rewriting the Atlantis mission and making the show about something else. Samatha Carter, who of course did great things on her missions with SG-1, still has only a tenuous connection with Atlantis and its a complete outsider to its mission. My sense that she needed to earn her place on Atlantis was only confirmed by seeing her blithely dropped into Weir's slot in the credits.

And the other patch to the credits is even more unsettling: there is now a gaping hole, filled with random action clips, where Paul McGillion used to be. The oddly long pause between Jason Momoa's credit and David Hewlett's serves mainly as an unwelcome prompt for fans to mentally supply the name of the man deleted from that space.

darn straight! that was brilliant and totally right on the money!

Atlantis's producers seem to have felt that jettisoning Weir was somehow necessary to the show – not understanding that Weir, the determined, nonmilitary optimist – is the show. Not Sheppard – not McKay – but Weir. I'm not even talking about Weir as a female role model – Weir is a role model, period. But more than that, she's the heart and soul of Atlantis.

see i love shep but because i love shep and i want to see how he interacts with the other characters... and how he works with a civilian leader and how he relates to liz... being that he is a rebel... gads thats a huge reason i started watching the show

Yep. In fact, I think some characters are OOC in s4 because of this. Sheppard is not Sheppard. McKay is not McKay. Something definitely changed.

I feel the friendship/family-thing has fallen apart, and it became rather apparent in BAMSR.

When Teyla is forced to inform Sheppard about why she has to have Keller check her out to see if everything is okay. It's Ronon who seems to know the most about what is going on in her life. They obviously chat quite a bit. John was completely oblivious, and the way he informed Carter. That was completely off. The way they casually talked about it as if it wasn't in the least bit important while John, himself, had just given Teyla the boot off his team (well, off active duty but it's pretty much the same thing since she won't be allowed to join them off-world).

Ronon was sweet and I bet there's a strong friendship between him and Teyla and he'll go to great lengths to protect her, and it's obvious he's also out to make her smile again.

They tried to force the friendship/family in the first half, and I hated it. Especially in Doppelganger, that last scene was incredibly off. I was already severally down and disappointed and then they tried to shuffle that down my throat. I hate(d) Carter's words about Kate (hardly a eulogy worthy) and if she had been any more colder about it, I would have felt the frostbite.

Oh no, going in dangerous territory again...

Falcon Horus, Happy Belated Birthday! My birthday was the 5th as well. It sounds like you had a nice time. I don't know about you, but often it sucks like SGA season 4 for me to have a birthday so close to Christmas. This year I actually had a surprise party though, since it was one of the "big" birthdays.

I only saw the last ten minutes of BAMSR, so I'll reserve judgement on the episode till I see Sci-Fi's repeat this Friday...but I'm cautiously hopeful from the last 10 seconds and the stuff that's been on JM's blog. If Weir really does return, and it's done well, I'll be pretty estatic. But there are ifs there....

For all my sins remember'd, I think it was due to the episode being quite badly written. It contained any lines which were supposed to be funny, I didn't laugh at all and the actors did seem more unconfortable in their roles.
