I think SGA could take an awful lot of hints from DS9 about how to handle the deaths of characters, bringing in characters from other shows in the franchise, story and character arcs, continuity...at least some of the writers must've seen the show, I'm sure. Since I think I heard on a commentary that some of them admired Colm Meaney. Oh, well. The loss of my squee in SGA has helped me rediscover some old shows I love, like DS9.

I think I'll start rewatching DS9 very very soon. It's my favorite part of ST franchise... every character is so well written and handled with lot of care.
I'm not weird, I'm limited edition.

no but is sure the heck helps... I love my shep more then any other character but its how he interacts with the team. There were some bad eps in season 3 but i still loved it.. because there was more bad then good, imho. The team whethered it all together. But you destroy the team .. replace perfectly good characters with boobs and blondes... oi...suddenly the bad episodes are glaring beacons of crapness.... yes that thats a real word

That's what I'm doing now, and I completely agree. My problem is that I want that for SGA too, but I'm not seeing it.

You want shallow. I got shallow right here. I will still watch as long as Joe Flanigan is on no matter what they do. I would watch him standing there on the balcony waving people through the gate for the entire hour. The rest of them. Not so much. And I even have a few hints on how they can increase ratings.

Oh, sorry. Ratings are good. I forgot. *has senior moment*

To be honest, as much as I would want to see Torri in many more episodes this season, I'm not sure I'd like her to be a part of these poorly-written episodes, feels like the character of Elizabeth is almost too superior for what JM has made of once- amazing-SGA. That's how I feel now. I mean I watched a couple of episodes and they bored me most of the time. I can't be sure though if I'd feel the same if Elizabeth would still be a regular, maybe, it could be that Torri's portrayal of (the real) Elizabeth would make up for some of the weaknesses of the show, hard to tell because with Carson and Liz instead of Carter and Keller, the plots couldn't be exactly the same as they are now. For me, a great cast ensemble, the chemistry between them makes all the difference and that's what SGA had prior to Sunday. I would definitely keep watching s4 without the cast changes and then see if I could still enjoy it as before even with Mallozzi at the helm and all the possible SG-1 rehashes they'd still do. This sounds so cheap, what do they take the audience for, serving the same things twice? They have no integrity left.

From my point of view, JM decided to rob us off a character that represented the most noble human values, a symbol of courage and personal excellence... now what does that say about him?!
Right... unless you copy other people's work. lol

It's just, what bugs me is that they can't understand how we feel and try to make folks feel worse by kicking us when we're down. THAT I'll NEVER understand and it's what used to bother me a lot, got used to all the nastiness by now.
Yeah, that's true. And at times they also get away with it because it's within the rules. I have to admit it hurts like hell but one has to live with it, I guess.

Yet, the fact that those two have biggest wordcount and most of the screentime shows whom the writers prefer. Like FH said, if you're not Sheppard or McKay, then you're not important on this show.
I wanted to know once and for all, and I was bored. But yes, David has more text but he talks really fast. Though it's quite obvious who are the singers of the band and who are the back-up singers.

                        It's depressing really...

It's the reason why I fell in love with SGA in the first place. It was different from SG1.

I feel the same, except for me, it was about Liz interacting with others, they were all amazing, a great bunch of characters, the cast gelled so much! I really haven't got a clue how they could destroy that well-oiled machine they had on their hands. Don't get it and never will.

If they kill too many characters I think it will turn people off, but if they have everyone coming back to life it becomes a different show than it was originally, and that will also annoy people.
I have hopes for Volume III.

SGA seems to want to become like Heroes or another show with a high turnover cast, but to me it's always been much more like a Star Trek, where it's extremely rare that characters leave.
It is, it has an ensemble cast and the stories aren't good enough and written for high cast turnover. This because characters have extremely character shields and can only die when it's heroic. If they want a high cast-turnover, fine, but then start with the immortal Sheppard getting seriously hurt and out of the running for several episodes or McKay actually getting a nervous breakdown after he screws up seriously. Or in other words, they need to make the show more realistic and lose the reset button when they want a high cast-turnover.

DS9 and TNG for Data, Q, the real Borg and Picard. Imo, DS9 is the best series of Star Trek especially if you start watching when the big Dominion arc starts.
