I'd still be watching if Elizabeth was in it, perhaps tptb did me a favor by getting rid of her, or I'd still be putting up with the load of crap that comes with watching the stinking pile of droppings SGA has become.

As it is I can't gather enough energy to even criticize it now, it's just not worthy of wasting time I could be spending on better and more rewarding activities.

The most I can give is a "meh! sucks, bleh!".

So Elizabeth will make up for a bad plot ?

Again, I must conclude that this is the most entertaining and most intelligent thread around. I'm happy to be part of it.

        Spoiler:

        Season 1
        AVERAGE TOT. SCREENTIME = 40m02s
        AVERAGE TOT. WORDCOUNT = 4466

        Joe Flanigan as John Sheppard
        AVERAGE SCREENTIME JOE = 12m42s

Most in The Rising - 30m24s (pilot counts as one episode)
Least in Hot Zone - 7m15s

        AVERAGE WORDCOUNT JOE = 774

        Most in Sanctuary - 1378
        Least in Before I Sleep - 431

        Torri Higginson as Elizabeth Weir
        AVERAGE SCREENTIME TORRI = 8m36s

        Most in Before I Sleep - 27m35s
        Least in Childhood’s End - 1m52s

        AVERAGE WORDCOUNT TORRI = 672

        Most in Before I Sleep - 1526
Least in The Defiant One - 196

        Rachel Luttrell as Teyla Emmagan
        AVERAGE SCREENTIME RACHEL = 6m30s

Most in The Gift - 18m56s
Least in The Defiant One - 1m11s

        AVERAGE WORDCOUNT RACHEL = 310

Most in The Gift - 1401
        Least in Before I Sleep - 34

Rainbow Sun Francks as Aiden Ford
        AVERAGE SCREENTIME RAINBOW = 5m38s

Most in The Rising - 20m29s
        Least in Before I Sleep - 1m52s

        AVERAGE WORDCOUNT RAINBOW = 233

        Most in 38 Minutes - 876
        Least in Before I Sleep - 29

        David Hewlett as Rodney McKay
        AVERAGE SCREENTIME DAVID = 9m30s

Most in The Brotherhood - 17m08s
Least in The Gift - 5m15s

        AVERAGE WORDCOUNT DAVID = 1009

Most in Hot Zone - 1766
Least in Poisoning The Well - 233

Respect for that work, FH! Those are really interesting results. What caught my eye first is the fact that David has more wordcount than Joe, but then, McKay is talking fast and talking a LOT, and Joe does have more screentime. Yet, the fact that those two have biggest wordcount and most of the screentime shows whom the writers prefer. Like FH said, if you're not Sheppard or McKay, then you're not important on this show.

It's sad - I have zero interest in watching the leaked AoT. I couldn't even finish s10 of SG1. Scary to think that I could feel the same way about SGA someday...
I couldn't finish S9, let alone S10. I'm not interested in AoT, Continuum, or anything else SG - 1 related (except for old episodes I like to rewatch)... and it happened with SGA too. Sad, but true.

If they wanted to get rid of a character who sat around doing nothing, they should have picked someone else.

It'd be interesting to see how her season three figures were. I think she did quite a bit -- certainly more screen time than Ronon and Teyla, but still there are those who believe they had more time on camera because they're 'part of the team'.
I'm also interested in S2 and S3 figures. Weir isn't just anybody, people seem to forget she was the leading female role... heck for me she still is that, and I refuse to watch S4. She had the moments, she made decisions, she made the difference and she was a part of the damned team too, just like Carson and Radek and Lorne and Kate... just because they are not in the "team Sheppard" it doesn't mean they are less important. Grow up folks. SGA isn't SG - 1. Or that used to be the case.

We hear about the progress of this huge war but we have yet to see any of it that I can recall. I may have missed something as my mind has tended to wander when watching S4 which never used to happen. This used to be the shortest hour of the week. Now I find myself looking at the clock halfway through.
PTB should watch complete seven seasons of Star Trek Deep Space Nine to see how decent war is written, heck everything there was pure perfection, IMHO.

That's the key. You know, no wonder really, if a producer insults fans on his blog, how can he treat fans any different in the way he writes his scripts? His attitude is expressed in his work. I didn't watch TMC but read the transcript today. I couldn't believe it, how many times JM made the characters say that Liz is gone. It was like he was rubbing it in, constantly reminding us just in case we start imagining the Elizabeth on screen is real. I mean, come on! He certainly could show a little of that human compassion he mentioned in the script from time to time.
That's a great point. It's very hard when you write something to hide completely behind your own work, or shall I say inside your work. One (or even more) of your characters speak for you. You can't out into your work what you don't have inside yourself as a person, so go figure... From my point of view, JM decided to rob us off a character that represented the most noble human values, a symbol of courage and personal excellence... now what does that say about him?!

But writers, don't you insult my intelligence by doing stories that could have been written by the average 5th grader. Heroes, for example, has a great plot and is well written but there are very few characters that I care what happens to. Supernatural and The Closer have it all. Even the incidental characters who usually end up dead are great on Supernatural. House has writing that is so good you actually enjoy the unlikable characters just as much. S1 of SGA was like that. Then we began the slow decline.
Yeah, I'd like to see that too. You can't take a show that depends on its ensemble cast and simply plug in two new characters. If you make a move like that, it needs to be handled with a lot of care and forethought and I do not see that on SGA. The new characters are also negatively impacting the already established characters (Sheppard's never seemed more like an errand boy, etc.).

That is a problem for the show and they're going to have to solve it if they want to keep it on the air. If they kill too many characters I think it will turn people off, but if they have everyone coming back to life it becomes a different show than it was originally, and that will also annoy people. SGA seems to want to become like Heroes or another show with a high turnover cast, but to me it's always been much more like a Star Trek, where it's extremely rare that characters leave.

Hey! I'm perfectly capable of watching a show for completely shallow reasons, as long as I have a reason I'll keep watching. When SGA got bad I kept watching because my favorite character was still there, had the plots been good enough I'd probably still be watching even without Elizabeth.

But since the show sucks, my favorite character isn't there and there aren't enough pretty people to keep my interest, I don't even have enough shallow reasons to watch, and believe me when I tell you I can be VERY shallow.

That does not sound nice . Anyways, I know where you are coming from. I stay aboard because I still like a couple characters but they are committing suicide every time they have to play those 2 year old scripts. I make compromises too but there is a limit to this. Elizabeth was a good character, no doubt, but in towards the end of S3 she started being a back up singer.

That's kinda my story too. The show lost things I was interested in seeing (please, nobody throw bricks at me, please). With Elizabeth gone, there is nothing to make me watch SGA. It's funny, that didn't happen with DS9 when my favorite character was killed off by the end of 6th season. That was handled very good, and the turnover that happened in S7 was also good. I liked the show for everything - characters, writing, plots... everything, and even with my fav character gone I still didn't lose the interest.

I know my weakness and I've accepted it, right now I'm obsessed with this anime, it's about sports, I find sports boring, and it's kind of ridiculous, but I still watch, why? because there are A LOT of pretty guys in it.

I'm not hard to please, you can't give me plot? fine, then give me teh pretteh and you'll have me there, I'm easily distracted by the shiny, and I regret NOTHING.

I guess certain producer has something to do with that.

Give me the shallow and I shall watch. Okay, that came out very wrong.

Thinking about FH's breakdown of screentime and that, I'd like to see a 'John and Rodney lite' episode. The have what they call 'Dr Lite' episodes in Dr Who for the last 2 series anyway, one's where the Dr has very few scenes, admitedly I didn't care for Love and Monsters (That's because I think Peter Kay is a waste of space) but this year's Blink was fantastic, it gave the opportunity for other characters to shine and for the writers (in this case the incredibly brilliant Stephen Moffat) to show you don't have to rely on the main characters or CGI to carry the show, all this episode relied on was brilliant acting, a fabulous script, wonderful makeup and an creepy concept. If only they could do this with SGA, a little proof that there is more to the show that John and Rodney and maybe they could drag the viewers back with the promise of something original and fresh, I'd watch it.

I'd also like to point out that what happens during the given screentime is quite important. For example - Sheppard had least screentime in hot Zone, but what was there was (IMO) very good. He had significant effect on the plot there and that is what counts.
