The Anti Season 4 Thread (Spoilers). For complaints and misgivings ONLY.
So if they didn't factor in DVR last season or the seasons before, why is it so gosh darn important now?? By making it sound like those factors (DVR) are important seems a bit deceitful to the fans.
Oh, TPTB have been going on about DVR numbers for years.
As for being deceitful to fans, how come none of them ever mention that if you don't have a Nielsen box it doesn't matter one damn bit if you watch it "live" or not? Although SG's PTB aren't alone in that little misdirection.
Even if the ratings are just as good as last season (and your point about them not factoring in DVR puts that interpretation in serious question), should that really be considered good news?
How wonderful for two actors, members of the original cast, to be booted through no wrong-doing of their own and for, basically, no effect.
But now it can be spun as "If they hadn't gotten rid of Carson and Weir and brought in Carter the ratings would have been WORSE!!"

One thought is that ratings have been declining overall because more and more people are buying and using DVRs and not being counted in the ratings. So this year they're including DVRs to make the ratings more accurate. But I don't think that DVR ownership jumped drastically in the past 6 months, so it would make sense that the 1.1s and 1.2s of late last season would have also been pushed to 1.3 and 1.4 if they had included DVRs. So at best this season is holding steady, but keep in mind we've only seen the rating for the premiere which is often inflated compared to the rest of the season.
Any news of LL yet? I'm so curious now about how it rated.
I believe that the ratings for Lifeline will be posted on skiffy's site on Monday. These ratings will be the "Live" ones, not including DVR. I'm also curious as to whether viewers stuck around after the premiere.

Anyone who would take that kind of spin as gospel has already decided the moves were right and would likely ignore any evidence to the contrary.
I could just as easily argue the ratings haven't dropped as much as they could because many Beckett and Weir fans are sticking it out in hopes of seeing our favs returned in season five....and for no other reason.
Do I have proof? No. But in accordance with the reasoning I see at this forum, who needs it?

I know there's a ratings thread, but since I'm feeling pretty negative right now, I'm here. Did the ratings drop from the beginning of season three to the end?
Just checked the Sci Fi website and apparently, LL got a 1.1 rating. I am assuming this the live + same day. Came in fourth place for the week ending 10/7 behind GH, Eureka and ECW.
For the pro-Weir folks on the thread, I'm just curious: Do you really want her to come back? Seriously? Look at how the character was treated on the show while she was there. Do you honestly think TPTB would do better the second time around? Do you think they'd treat her right? Develop her in a way that makes sense? Give her any significant material at all?
I remember when Jonas was written off SG-1 I was furious as hell, but after I had time to calm down I realized I didn't want him to come back because it'd only provide another opportunity for TPTB to mistreat the character and I loved him too much to want that.
I don't want that for Weir, either. TPTB had their chance already and they squandered it. Worse, they squandered Torri. I would MUCH rather see Torri go on to a role where she's allowed to flex her acting muscles and where TPTB will not only appreciate what they have, but utilize the opportunity. Ditto Carson/Paul McGillion. TPTB have proven to me they can't do justice to their characters or the actors behind them, so I say best of luck to the actors in their new endeavors.
As for the significance (or lack thereof) to the "bump" in ratings... since when has reality ever had anything to do with fandom? Or TPTB for that matter?
But how well have they written the other characters? Nothing has been consistent on this show for any of them. For every positive step forward in character development, we take two steps back in the next episode because there's a different writer with a different take on the characters. It's all very uneven. Where's that show bible when you need it...
To answer your question, I would love to see Elizabeth back. I love her interactions with all the other characters. And if they keep Atlantis militarized, put Elizabeth on Shep's team. I'd like to see her and Teyla making the first contact with the guys backing them up. If TPTB want to shake things up, why don't they mix up the team instead of it always being the same four. Give us some Lorne, Radek (when it makes sense!), or Keller.
Will they write her any better. Probably not. I still want her back.
Is it something Torri would want? Only she knows the answer. If they ask and she says no, I wouldn't blame her.
I just feel like there's a hole in SGA that only she can fill. I feel that way about Carson. If they were to get rid of Shep, Rodney, Teyla or Ronon, I would feel that way about them. These six people are the core of the show I loved. And I miss it.

That's my opinion too. Six of them, all together are the show. They are the winning combination - together. i don't mind adding Lorne and Radek and Laura Cadman. And Katie Brown and Kate Heightmeyer. I love them all. My fav eps are the ones that include all of them - or most of them - I'm re watching Duet at the moment and enjoying myself. Return I and II, Critical Mass, Echoes and Submersion come to mind too.

Honestly? No. I've finally moved on from this show, and in truth, I'm kind of edgy at the mere thought of Mortal Coil and The Kindred. I will watch them out of loyalty towards Elizabeth and Carson, but I'd rather have some real closure at this point and just forget about Atlantis.
I wouldn't watch a show that has disappointed me over and over in the hope that the weekly 90 seconds of Weir would actually be worth watching.
LOL. That should make for a nice bump. How about +"all those who never heard of SGA, but might possibly have watched had they known".
*snickers*
I tend to agree with you. I would consider being kicked to the curb to be a deliberate stab in the back. Unless absolutely destitute, I would politely () tell the very nice PTB to shove their offer where the sun don't shine. But that's just me.
I think it's just natural. When you've been kicked, you don't go back for seconds. You run the other way.

hi new on this thread. just to say i HATE season 4! I was hating the sound of it before it started but gave it a go anyway and i HATE IT!!!!! What have they done to our show?!
As much as I would love to have Torri and Paul back, I too would rather see them go on and do something better - especially after the way they were treated by TPTB. If S4 could be treated as a complete and total dream and SGA went back to the way it was written in prior seasons, I'd love it. But of course that will never happen...sigh....
You are sooooo right!!
Same here, if TPTB suddenly saw the light, decided that S4 and Sunday + First Strike never happened, or parts of those episodes, then I'd want Elizabeth to be back. Hell, I want her back just as she was, just more of her in every episode than she was in the back half of s3. I would be willing to forget for whom Torri works for if they made things as they used to be and I would concentrate only on the show. But that will never happen so I wish Torri all the best in the much better TV shows she'll work on from now on. She'll be treated better. Elizabeth Weir was special and Torri was brilliant and perfect for the role so it's such a shame they threw it all away, well, I'll keep following Torri's career and hope for another role that will suit her as much as Dr. Weir did.

Hehehehe I knew it would be even worse.

Gosh, TH deserved better for those three years of amazing work and the character she gave us. Elizabeth deserved better writing, but then again almost every single character here did!
