Although, if we had our women act like Sheppard / Mckay do in the presence of an attractive member of the opposite sex, it would rise feminist issues, as well as "appropriate behavior" issues.

As much as I think Vala was a badly written, almost caricatural character (when she deserved much more), the double standard in judging her and Sheppard is blatant and tangible.

It's okay for Sheppard to be distracted by every pair of legs in the Pegasus Galaxy and beyond, but as soon as a female character flirts / shows any interest...the verbal stoning starts.

It's Kathryn Janeway all over again. 7 years of complete celibacy (as opposed to the Captains coming before her), because it's not accepted, and would be seen as a sign of weakness.
