I, personally, couldn't care less if there wasn't a season 5. My little Kate-spark has gone out anyway.

But if there wasn't a season 5 I would feel sorry for JF, RL, JM, DH and all the others (minus 1) and the crew (minus 2) who would be out of a job. So, for them I'd say I would want to root for a new season... But not for me personally, my enjoyment has been cut to a tiny little piece, barely visible with the naked eye.

It would be nice if TPTB spend more time on improving the show and less on the excuses. You'll never hear them admit the cast changes and there stories are the problem. I've heard other TPTB like J.J Abrams admit when something they tried did not work. There was no talk about the evil DVR's or the evil schedule. It was about admitting you mistake and not whinning and making things right.

the thing i find annoying is, if they get a season 5 it will be, because of the changes. not becasue they've suddenly decided to include this dvr what ever thing in the ratings

Gee, there were VCRs decades before DVRs came around. I always tend to watch shows live, especially if it's something I love. When two shows I liked aired in the same time slot, I usually taped the one I cared less about (unless I wanted to keep the episodes).

So the competitive time slot is only a half-excuse, as it means that people prefer other shows to SGA, and if they were watching SGA in the summer, it was just because they didn't have anything better to do.

Which, as a matter of fact, leaves me kind of puzzled, because summer in Italy means lesser shows / reruns, since people are bound to spend less time at home watching tv.

LoL.I think that excuse was used already. Another popular one is ratings are down across the board. I just want to forget the DVR talk and just talk about cast changes and and stories effecting ratings. I laugh when cast changes and bad stories are shot down for bad ratings.DVR has been used as a crutch by TPTB of SG-1 IMO.

Oh, there will be excuses, but the fact remains that cast changes ('shake up'), decent promotion, expensive special effects etc. didn't improve SGA's live ratings, quite the opposite. Why spend more money to obtain an inferior result?

I suppose it's easier to waste money in big explosions and CGI than sit down and actually put some effort into writing good stories and fleshing out the characters.

X-files had a very limited amount of special effects, and yet it became a cult among sci-fi fans. Ratings went down when the writing slipped and the fatal blow came with cast changes.

Ben and Claudia have mentioned several times on the Farscape audio commentaries that they stopped doing the CGI of Pilot's head in the shell because it was too expensive. Compare that to an entire city built on CGI.

Yes, but the fans knew the truth. Heck, I was still having fun watching S9 and S10 and I was perfectly aware of how much of a screw up it was.

The only difference (and it made a huge difference when it was time for me to decide whether to stick to SG1 or not) is that the cast changes were badly handled, but were forced upon the writers.

RDA wanted to leave, and Amanda was on maternity leave. We didn't have a commader of the SGC anymore. 5 episodes of Daniel and Teal'c going through the gate on their own would have killed the show faster than lightning.
