The movie we are discussing is "The Beast of Bottomless Lake". It's a Canadian Independent film from Provost Pictures that is starting to make it's way around the festival circuit in Canada. They are working on a distribution, at the very least there will be a DVD. Hopefully it gets some kind of theater run.
The movie hasn't been well publicised yet though they are working on it. Movie's already won two awards at two seperate film festivals!

At the very least they promised a DVD so if that happens I am sure there will be links posted in one of the two David Nykl threads to be able to order it. You can be put on a list if you click the link in my siggie and leave a post on that blog thread.

I really hope it makes it to the states too! David said he is going to try to do some conventions in the States this year, so maybe if he does he will bring the movie with him.

So, what does a fan have to do to get that David & David sit com you came up with going? I'm ready to write some letters.

Good question. I recently just saw someone take that idea except they wanted Flanigan and Hewlett as the Odd Couple. While I think Flanigan and Hewlett make a good team, they are sooooo not the Odd Couple, not in terms of remastering the old show. If you saw the old show, it's Nykl and Hewlett that would do the show justice. That energy is really with Nykl and Hewlett for the "Odd Couple" remake. (Normally I am not a fan of remakes or make-overs for old shows but when I saw Nykl and Hewlett on stage together it just hit me real strong.)

Sometimes I get frustrated because many people only see the 'stars' of TV shows and forget that some of the other characters are equally, if not more talented and could be stars in the own right given the 'lucky' break.

I think we'd need some kind of a letter campaign. Basically these guys need a idea that can sold to a studio. Maybe a letter campaign to the studios?

One thing that is nice is that with Hewlett's "Dog Day Breakfast" out there and loved by fans and with "The Beast from Bottomless Lake" working it's way around the circuit - it really showcases some of David Nykl's artistic talents and I think alot of fans are going to like it - that maybe those movies can work in their favor.

Good idea. Have you or has anyone mentioned the idea to the actors to see what they thought of the idea yet? If they like it, maybe they would have some insight as to where we could start since they are insiders. I'm ready. I figure now is the time to get it ready for next fall, right?

I mentioned it to David Hewlett when he was here last June. Actually one of the fans at the table (I had won an auction for a one hour chat with David and 9 other fans) told David that he and Joe should redo the Odd couple and I piped in and corrected her and said that I said David Nykl and David Hewlett, not Flanigan and Hewlett (Flanigan was there that weekend too!). David Hewlett looked at me and said that the actors really did get along off screen. We were having some kind of conversation about chemistry with characters and how many felt that was lacking in SGU. I think I also posted it on David Nykl's blog once about it. These guys hear lots of stuff about what fans would like to see them do so I doubt it meant anything serious to them at the time.

I think basically someone in the business needs to put something together and present it to the two actors and to the studio(s) and see what happens.

Doesn't mean fans can find a way to light that fire, somehow, somewhere...of course there is probably creative rights owned by someone with the Odd Couple franchise and who knows what other obstacles are in the way but as a fan, it's fun to try!

Well, what if it wasn't exactly a take off on the old Odd Couple with a neat freak and a slob? What if it was, oh, maybe a by-the-book, plan everything out to a T, moral guy (Nykl) and a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants, making-it-up-as-he-goes, shades of grey guy (Hewlett)?

Well, what if it wasn't exactly a take off on the old Odd Couple with a neat freak and a slob? What if it was, oh, maybe a by-the-book, plan everything out to a T, moral guy (Nykl) and a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants, making-it-up-as-he-goes, shades of grey guy (Hewlett)?

LOL. I'd like to see Nykl playing the slob and Hewlett playing the neat freak!

Maybe the moral guy can be a priest, or ex-priest who's now trying to figure out his way in his new life and the fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants guy is trying to find ways to help him with that new life to some funny results.

The fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants guy should be divorced so they are both a bit clueless about women!
