And yes, having Zelenka in SGU would definitely bring it up a notch and make me eager to watch it, but I think having him in it would be so inconsistent for the show. It would be like putting Mary Poppins in a gangster movie. Of course, I think David could make it work, and I would definitely want to watch, but I would be afraid that it would degrade the Zelenka character by putting him in SGU. I just don't think there's any hope to bring the show up to SGA quality.

As far as I remember, it was Zelenka who pointed out the Ninth Chevron Problem to McKay in one of the deleted scenes of SGA season five (why they deleted it when it will be the whole point in the following spin-off plot is another mystery to me). Since McKay is always busy doing other things, it would make perfectly sense to cast David Nykl in one or two episodes as the "recurring Atlantis Character". Plus, it would make us fans really happy.

The scene was cut because the episode was running long and the part about the Ninth Chevron was added information that wasn't relevant to the current story so they cut it. So David gets credit for being in the show a whole 2 seconds. At least they put the scene on the DVD - it was a nice scene.

I got to watch 'The Shrine' at the Chicago convention two years ago. We saw the directors cut without any music a few hours before it aired on Sci-fi. David was a guest at the convention that year. David didn't even know the scene was cut until fans asked him about it during his Q&A.

I'm with you, I think Zelenka would be the perfect recurring guest on SGU!

SGU better starts to get exiting the second part of the first season. Except for Rush maybe, I have actually no really an interest at all in the characters and story, and I will never get so excited about it like I am for Atlantis or SG-1.

SGU is a different show that appeals to a different group of fans. They pretty much said that when they made the original annoucement and I guess they were right!

Those pics were from a convention years ago that a friend of mine went to. Whenever David is on stage he always seems to have that sparkle and smile. It's obvious he likes the stage and it seems to like him as well!

Huh??? Oh, no no no no no. Zelenka can never be degraded (that's Rodney's job! ). Zelenka would just add so much more class to SGU!

Yes, he would add class. But would they bring out the character's true self? I'm concerned that the writers wouldn't do Zelenka justice. Afterall, they did that with O'Neill. Jack seems like a totally different character to me in that show. They've written out his humanity and the characteristics that we've come to know and love about Jack and made him a regular military general. I would hate to see them do that to Zelenka. I'd LOVE to see David, but I would worry about Zelenka, that's all.

Great points everyone! Yes,David would bring class to U (duh!!) but the U writers have no interest in writing good characters or storylines in favor of cheap sex and stereotypes. Hiccups,I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed how off Jack was written. If I'd never heard of the Stargate franchise and watched Jack's interactions with the body switching sex pod people,I'd thought Jack was an a$$. I certainly wouldn't want that happening to our fave Czech. More Nykl shots please!! Woohoo!! }:O

It's not at all like SG1 or SGA, not at all. It's not fun. There are no fun little idiosyncracies or funny anecdotal substories. It's life or death survival and misery.

It's not bad. It's just different. Though I have to admit, it's not working for me. It's too dark, the focus is too much on all the negative stuff that Stargate was not known for. The characters (not the actors, I really like several of the actors in the show.) are not blending together very well. Still a bit too jagged and rough. They threw alot at the begining of the show and then plan to tell the stories and backgrounds alittle at a time. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't and in SGU's case it's not working too well at least not for me.

I think that even if the writers did their stuff that people worry about, David has a rare quality that he can really make the best out of some not so great characters. If you have watched Pterydachtal then you know what I mean. Show was horrible but David's character was fun to watch!
Beside the writers tried to screw with Zelenka in Trio and it didn't work so well!
But yeah, I know what you guys mean. We want to keep the essence of Zelenka perserved!

so thats where Zelenka's working now Atlantis is back on Earth, he's a sculpturer And your right RH they did try to screw with him in Trio i hated that scene when they were dissing him, i wanted to smack them all with my custom made 'dont mess with Zelenka frying pan'
