I realize that I'm probably a little more than fashionably late to this party, but I'm just starting to figure out how this blog/forum stuff works. So please forgive me for that.

As for Zelenka, what can I say, Miluju Radek Zelenka! (I hope I translated that correctly.) And if you want to know why, visit my blog, http://thehiccuppinghomemaker.blogsp...s-someday.html. (I might even tell you what some of the "I won't tell you"s mean. )

BTW, can anyone tell me how they make fan videos for the tube? I have an idea, but I would love to hear how other people do it (since I'm new with all this stuff). (And yes, I have been living under a rock. )

    Thnks.

Correctly, it would be "Miluju Radka Zelenku" - we decline pronouns and names...

Thanks for the correction. I used a translation site and have no idea (since I have never taken any Czech) if it did it properly or not. Had it been in Russian, I would have known. ? ????? ??????.

*scratches head* Why would anyone wanna dub David N.'s voice? I mean,ya have a Czech speaker reading Czech lines and they dub it with someone who isn't Czech? Must be the same people who thought spelling Sci Fi as Sy Fy was a good idea. Anywho, welcome Teal'auc and Mealla if I didn't welcome ya before. So,Teal'auc, can ya recommend any good learn to speak Czech web sites? I'm fascinated by languages and would like to learn to speak Czech...actually I'm interested in Mandarin,German,Hawaiian, and Thai too but I digress. hehe }:O

I found a report of a panel with David Nykl in Germany, they showed him a bit the German dubbing and he said, "That is bad. It wasn't Czech at all. […] Dubbing is a shame."
Thanks! It is always interesting to hear how American/Canadian/English shows translate into other languages in other countries.
It definitley does lose something in the translation as, the voice and how the actor says it are a big influence with the scene connecting with the audience.

LOL. I think that is kind of what David was joking about at the convention. For Fans it really didn't make sense for them to dub Zelenka with any actor other than David since David can speak Czech, he would keep the same emotions, and fun into it because Zelenka is his character. Basically David would care about how Zelenka was portrayed.
My guess is the actor doing the dubbing was most likely not an establish known actor that alot of people would know so he was probably cheaper!

Yes David does have another audiobook in the works.

Not sure when it is due out but I think he has recorded it already.

I hope it is ready to go for the Chicago convention. The company that does the Audiobooks is going to be at the convention in August selling the SG1 and SGA audiobooks.

***runs out to check the website****

huff, huff, huff *runs back in** catches breath.....

Damn, it won't be out until October:

I would point you to something, it's just, Czech language itself is so complex, for strangers anyways. I'm not sure what would help you with getting at least a basic grasp of the language atm - I'll try to look up something after I get some sleep - it's 3 am here and I want to watch at least one SG episode before I go to bed.

Czech language as any other slovene language are hard to learn, especialy for those, who have English and German as their first language. Overally, it's hard to grasp, and even harder to pronounce. Letters like ? would make your toungue to break I always had light-hearted fun with my foreign friends, trying to teach them how to pronounce it.

At least I am glad they understood that the scene is necessary to be Czech. Sometimes they don't even figure something like that out (in Heroes, they dubbed the Japanese lines and at the end everyone was talking German and they didn't understand each other). I just watched it the scene again (and one time in French), too bad they didn't keep the original.

The only fun you have with dubbing are the other roles the voice actors dubbed. For example, Ford's German voice is also the voice of the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who and Arthur Dent from the Hitchhiker's Guide movie.

I'd love to learn a bit Czech, too. I wanted to join a Czech course at my uni next semester. They're offering one, and I hope that I don't have another class at the time.

For hearing czech language in SGA, listen to it in original, David Nykl's czech is decent there, to sound believable. I love the wear he swears from time to time

I think it's probably better to listen to the language being spoken for awhile before even trying to learn to say or write it!
