Awww, conventions in Canada! At the Moment I am preparing for my first (and maybe last) convention there, the Gatecon in Vancouver. Flying over the pond for a con is maybe just that bit too expensive for me. Not that I don't have the money, but, you know I guess I will come for a holiday the next time I fly to Canada. I really want to drive through the Rockies, some colleagues of mine showed me photos and those were beyond beautiful and impressive.

It's a pity that I will be there for only a couple of days this time, but I want to be home at Easter, painting eggs with my niece.

Did I tell that my sister is pregnant again? It will be a girl, date is about end on June *iz happy*

I've never been anywhere but southern Ontario- I'd love to see the western part of the country sometime. I still need to see the western US too!

I was in the western part (Okanagan Valley and Vancouver) last October and it was great. Then again I have never been outside Europe before that, and never in a place which is that empty, compared to here.

        Further OT-ness:

        Spoiler:
Last summer I visited a friend in Flensburg, and while I was entering the train station in Hamburg a maybe 11 year-old girl said (in English) "everything is so tiny here". Hamburg is one of the largest cities in Germany, and because of its large harbour, this outer area of this station is really large. I was curious and asked the girl where she was from, and she was from Vancouver. After I was in Canada myself I know what the girl meant. It's not tiny here, its cramped. I live in a city which is more than 2000 years old, I look onto a fortress when I look out of my window, there is history everywhere, even my school is older than your whole country. The feeling of "this is so incredible young and fresh and un-used" was overwhelming. I can't and won't tell which one is "better", but I am really looking forward to go back to Canada again, and I really want to come over a third time and stay longer. It's a pity that there is no official German school in Vancouver, I really would have tried to teach there for 3 years with the official program provided by ma government.

That's so cool! We do have some history where I live- there's a lot of the American Revolution that started and was fought nearby, so that's a big focus for the museums and monuments around here. But it's much more recent than a lot of yours. When I lived in the Midwest US things were even newer, so when I moved out to New England it just seemed steeped in history here. I've visited England and Wales and there's a lot of history there- I loved going through the old castles and imagining what it was like to live in them. I haven't been to Germany yet but would like to see it someday.

Welcome back to the thead Iolanda! And congradulations for your sister!

The Rockies are beautiful. Driving can sometimes be a bit challenging depending on the roads you take. I was raised in that area, words really can't describe the beauty or the peacefullness they sometimes bring, except when one of the sleeping giants decides to wake up.

I am actually from the northwestern part of the US, It is beautiful country and if you get the chance to visit someday you should. I really miss the mountains, they are hills here by comparison!

I've been to Vancouver Canada before but it's been awhile. Never been east of Canada, though now with my daughter's uncle living there, it's a good excuse to go and visit and explore.

And now to get us back on topic!

                          Something like this, maybe...
                          Spoiler:

: What happened to your hair?
: You should be one to talk! But... well, it went like this...

                          -Earlier-

: I need to borrow him for a little while.
                          : What for?

: I want to, uh, try something.
: Okay, but don't take too long. We have to save the Daedalus.
: What do you want to try?

                          -Back to present-

: So you see, it turns out she was one of my fangirls. They all want to know what it's like to ruffle my hair.
: She did an impressive job! By the way, she wants to borrow you for a longer while after we're done here.
*looks a bit panicky* : For what? I don't think my hair can get more ruffled!
: Relax, Radek, she just wants you to help with ship repairs.
                          *grumbles* : I'm everyone's mechanic...

This might be kind of mean for Zelenka but I always wanted to see a scene where there was water and Ronon, frustrated with Zelenka's lack of swimming abilities, picks him up and just tosses him in the water and then has to jump in to save him because he realized that Radek really can't swim! Later we would see Ronon giving Radek swimming lessons!

Ronon's a sweet guy, unless you get on his bad side (and those usually deserve what they get). I don't think Radek ever got on his bad side really- he was just doing his job with those noisy instruments.

Someone wrote a fic where something just like that happens- they're escaping somewhere offworld, and have to cross a river, and Radek's balking so Ronon throws him in (not realizing he can't swim), then has to go in and help him. I forget if he ends up teaching him later. I'll post the link if I can find it.

Edit: Rosehawk, you wrote that fic! LOL! I remembered it was on ff.net so it was pretty easy to find. I like that story a lot!

Well, since he did volunteer to go on the trip with Radek, even if it was to go hunting, he must have like him to begin with. I don't think Ronon has much patience for those he doesn't like.

LOL. Thanks! That was my first fanfic ever and was a challenge on this thread by Allestian.
Now you know why I wrote the fic - I think it would have been a fun secondary story if it could have ever been worked into a storyline!
