Radek Zelenka/David Nykl Appreciation, Thunk, Translation Thread

You never know, David might make it someday. He has spent so much time with fans on other continents - Europe, Australia and New Zeland that he is trying to connect with his US fans now. His going to Chicago and then the following weekend Dragoncon in Atlanta which is probably closer to you than Chicago.
I met Paul last year. He was faboulous. He was really sick so he didn't socialize with fans at all which was a bummer, but ah well, I got a great unexpected hug from him. He is a great hugger! And I got the cutest photo op with him.
I would love to get a David N., David H. and Paul photo op together!

Amen to that! My three fave SGA guys together (not to rule out Joe and Jason, but compared to those three...) would be an amazing experience. I hope David N. does make it down to Texas someday. Atlanta's not too far away, but it's still cheaper and easier to stay within the state.

Speaking of FedCon, one of my hotel roommates just lost her job so she can't afford to go (if you'd send her your prayers and good thoughts, I know she could use them), and the other isn't sure she'll be able to go either, so I'm suddenly facing the possibility of being the sole person in a 4-person room (which would be pricier than I'd prefer to do). So, if any of you are going to FedCon USA and need a room, do let me know.

I get to meet Ben too! He's coming to Chicago the same day that David is!

*jealous* You'll have a blast meeting him too. Ben's an absolute sweetheart and a total class act from everything I've heard and seen. He's such a supportive guy toward sci-fi geekdom. Let him know fans of both his Stargate and Farscape roles hope to see him as both Mitchell and Crichton again!

As for weed, marijuana's classified as a mild hallucinogen, with some characteristics of a depressant, I think. (At least, that's what we learned in Intro Psych). And yeah, still illegal. Not as mind altering or physically damaging as something like cocaine or ecstasy, but not exactly great for your brain either.

Wow. These things are tough and are really personal decisions.

You can't change her choices of what she chooses to do with her life so basically you have to decide how big of a factor it is for you in your friendship with her and make your decision from there.

If it is a phase she is going through, be patient, it will pass. If she is hooked, things can get really bad. If she tries to get you hooked or doesn't respect your saying no, then she isn't a friend at all.

I've heard alot of really great things about Ben. I loved him in Farscape! I just ordered my photo op with him. I really really really wish I could get a photo op with Ben and David. That would be so cool!!!

I would add to Rose's statement that if it is just a "phase" that you continue to let her know that you don't approve. Not everytime you see her, just remind her from time to time. Put the peer pressure back on her!

Allestian, I'm sorry about your friend. I don't have any real advice to give you except to just keep letting her know you disapprove. Don't let her do it in your house, give her disappointed looks, just stuff to guilt her or irritate her into at least doing it less. Ultimately, you can't control what choices other people make, but you can try to use the friendship you have to let her know it hurts you that she's doing it. Guilt can go a long way with the right personality. ((((Allestian))))!!! I hope she makes the right choice and stops on her own before she gets in trouble. I've known people who have done it for a while, then wised up on their own when they figure out they can't afford to keep abusing it that way and still succeed in school and their jobs.

Yeah, summer weather starts here in March, usually. Last year was odd because it never got truly Texas-hot all year and was really rainy and wet, but this year is proceeding normally, so we should be in for a dry, scorching hot summer, just the way I like it. Enjoy your snow! I haven't seen any since I was a little kid. I liked it, back before I became such a sissy to cold temperatures.

The problem with weed is, that it leaves your mind with a "I don't care"- state, which can lead to a "I don't care what my friends are telling me" situation.

A couple of my friends started smoking that stuff after we ended school (13yrs ago), most of them stopped a short time later but one thought that it could help him with his problems. Of course he couldn't.

It was difficult to be a friend, when this friends starts smoking when you visit him and you know, that he will be spoiled for the rest of the evening, so that you might directly leave. And then watch how he ruins his life bit by bit.

First it ruined his first apprenticeship (but there could have been other problems as well, but he did not want to confront himself), the it took him ages to get his study started. That was when he recognized, that he might really has a problem and slowly (really slowly) stopped smoking that stuff. But now he is a little bit older than I am, has barely finished his diploma and he can't find a job because he studied in a branch which is already overrun and maybe also because he is handicapped, and now he lives back at his parents and doesn't get his own live started.


And now to something complete different:
Never ever go out with a special bunch of my colleagues. My poor head. *g* A colleague had her wedding eve party and we went into the town after that. We had great fun, but now I am regretting. Finest weather outside and I can't stand the bright sun

Two cups of coffee, some time in the shadow on my balcony and just 30km on my bike helped already, but the Radek pictures just made it perfect!

I started with my Mosel/Rhine/Lahn route for this year. Hope I will be up for 50 km or more soon, since I really need to get fitter again.

I know what you mean about getting fitter. I use to put in 5 miles a day in my old job (the nature of the job required me to walk around alot and usually at a fast pace) and now that I have a desk job I don't get the excericise I use to and I am starting to feel in. Luckily my work has a gym so I signed up, want to use the bikes and treadwells - hopefully will be starting next week.

Well, I try to. I am growing more and more upset because my efforts to learn in-line skating are leading to nowhere because I still get pain in my back after a few hundred meters. This is frustrating. I know that my muscles are to week and that there is nothing really wrong with my back but there is no evolving. I guess I should search another kind of sport. I made Jujutsu for years (a martial art - not Jiujitsu) but my knees didn't like it any more.

My school has two old buildings and no elevator, but climbing stairs isn't really sport. After some time one gets used to it. I tend to stand in classes, because I am not too tall, but in the afternoons I mostly sit in front of my desk.

With appropriate weather I just love to bike around the rivers here.
My family got me a bike and a trailer hitch and a stand for my bike, so I can take it with me wherever I want to bike.
We (=my parents, my sister with hub, I) often made holidays in the Netherlands and biked there and I was always the one who had to lend a bike which was very frustrating over the time, because my parents were to slow, sister + hub with their high tech bikes too fast. Now I have at least the chance to keep up with my sister.
When she was pregnant, she and her husband drove so often with their bikes that rumours were spread that little Mia would be born with a little bike and a helmet She wasn't, but she loves to sit in the bike trailer.

That's one of the big issues here where I live is the word "appropriate" weather. We get so much rain and snow during the winter months, and it isn't a fun rain to ride a bike in and then in the summer the hummidty gets to be overwhelming at times, there is really only a short window to take good bike rides unless you are into the heat and hummidty and can tolerate it well. There is alot of beautiful countryside to take bike rides at so you have to plan accordingly.
I really miss the summers out in Washington State!
