Wow, your guys school system is so different then ours here. What is the Abitur? Do all kids have to go through it if they want to study at the universities?
I feared that question
Spoiler:
First: I guess my English will be very bad in handling a complex theme like this. I hope you understand me nonetheless.
Germany has got 16 different Bundesländer (can be compared with your states) and every one has its own specialities concerning education. Since we sucked (sorry) at the Pisa-test and we got bad marks concerning the integration of children from poor families or families with a "bad education" or foreign background every land tries to improve its education system on its own way, leading to a slight chaos at the moment.
Once upon a time, when the system looked like this for the "old" Bundesländer:
For the first 4 (or 6) years all children go to the Grundschule (basic school) when they learn the basics and the they were divided into three branches, the best went to Gymnasium, the mediocre ones to the Realschule and the rest to Hauptschule, every branch leading to its own school leaving certificate after grade 9 (HS: Hauptschulabschluss) or 10 (HS/RS/GY: mittlere Reife) with this certificate you could start a apprenticeship. With "mittlere Reife" you can also go into the "Oberstufe" (secondary school), this are the last three years at the Gymnasium which end with the "Abitur", the final secondary-school examinations.
The normal way to university is with the Abitur, but there are also other ways. You can for example make you Abitur later at special Kolleg-schools. Home schooling is forbidden, and so the state offers some possibilities to redo what you might have missed earlier in life.
Over the years the Hauptschulabschluss lost its significance, because lots of childring with this certificate did not find an apprenticeship and so most parents send their children to the Realschule and especially the Gymnasium which led to a drop in the standard there. So other solutions were sought after.
Here in Rhineland-Palatinate are now other, mixed school kinds (Duale Oberschule, Regionalschule, Gesamtschule) and some weeks ago the decision was made that the Hauptschule will no longer be existent in a few years. The only school kind where nobody fusses around yet is the Gymnasium, and I am very glad about that.
Someday and hopefully you will have alot of fun when you do! There so much to see and visit both in Europe and in America!
I've been to England, Scotland and Wales and just loved my visit there. I wanted to go to Germany, I have alot of family history there but I couldn't work it into the trip. So someday I hope to make it to Germany as well and if I go to Germany, I definitly have to go to the Czech Republic!
Ah, there is a lot of travel to do! I only have the problem of being afraid to travel alone and my best friend isn't a friend of travelling and so I will have to do it alone or find others with the same problem
I've been all around Europe, except the northern part and the far east as well as the Eastern Bloc states. Norway or Sweden and the Czech Republic are definitely on the list
But first I want to go to Vancouver
Wow, you guys have a complex education system. I think I got the gist though, your English was fine! It sounds like kids head into three different directions at some point in their education which sets their career paths as adults! Though it looks like the system is going through a major change!

I have ended up doing alot of traveling alone so I know what you mean about not wanting to travel alone. When I went to Europe I connected with a group through school, so while I was alone I wasn't really alone. I met alot of people both in the group and in England and had a wonderful experience! Part of why I didn't go to Germany was no one else could go with me and two of my brothers who were stationed there, I couldn't get ahold of them and I didn't want to travel by myself without knowing the language.
Vancouver is beautiful. I am assuming you mean Vancouver BC and not Washington! Though both cities are beautiful, Vancouver Washington is a small town and doesn't have SGA there or Zelenka!

Norway and Sweden in summer are just wonderful - especially Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Goteborg. You only have to have luck in weather
Oh, crap, my lightsabers, got to finish putting it together. I am holding the delicate jewels in my hands right now! Just got to finish attaching them inside the base of the lightsaber blade.
I'm sure planning one. If you think you're not ready, me and HK-47 can do the job, but having a skilled Padawan there will surely improve our odds of success
Umm, hello, everyone! I met David this weekend, and I think I've fallen in love... he's just so lovely! (Talk about smitten - after I met him, I couldn't stop talking about him - he is just sooooooo cute and friendly!)
I've got some really cute pics of him on his own and with Jason Momoa - as soon as I have sorted them out, I'll post them up here.

Just build a drool dam before you post them. I'm getting sick of having to wear the life-jacket all the time

I know exactly what you mean After meeting David Nykl few times this year, he got on my personal list together next to David Hewlett.
I met him here, in the Czech Republic on July and there it started, I think. Later on October in Utopia Con, I totally got lost in his charm and charisma He is absolutely fantastic.

Nope, because we have all grades from 5 to 13. Your Sixth Form College (I took everything I know about that from wikipedia) reminds me more of our Oberstufe, including the grades 11 to 13.
