Radek Zelenka/David Nykl Appreciation, Thunk, Translation Thread

I don't know if there's anyone who's on GateWorld who doesn't know about Season 4 and the Atlantis cast, but I'll put my comments in spoilers, just in case. The news is on GateWorld and SciFi.

I guess this makes official what we already know. Amanda's joining Atlantis for 14 episodes and Jewel Staite for 8 episodes. Now, who thinks that with Amanda on the show, Radek is going to have fewer interactions with Rodney? *raises hand*

According to GateWorld, the press release says

"Mourning the loss of some beloved friends." That's plural "friends". Who thinks the next in line for the axe is Radek? *raises hand*. Unless it's yet another main cast member (like Teyla, because we know how well SG writes women), I don't see who else would resonate with the audience. Radek is the recurring cast member we've seen the most often.

Do we need a Save Zelenka campaign?

For those of you who have read my comments, do you think it needs to be in spoilers or not?

Oh God not more hysteria and "Save XYX" campaigns. Yes while losing Zelenka or Lorne or Teyla or Ronon or Chuck would be a shame it's not the end of the world. Remember, it's a TV show. How about a "Save us from Hysterical campaigns" campaign. Anyway is it actually fact that Radek's next for the chop or is it an excuse to wind the bords up into mass hysteria again. Please excuse me if I don't jump on an already over crowded bandwagon because it is a complete waste of time

I'm not scare-mongering. I was just expressing my dismay at the turn Atlantis appears to be taking. Getting rid of any character isn't making the show exciting and edgy. It's depressing everyone who has a favorite character, except for maybe Sheppard and McKay fans.

Do the show runners think that any gain of viewers coming over from other shows will offset the distress of the Atlantis fans who supported the show from the beginning? And not as an offshoot of SG1, but as a show in its own right? I'm an Atlantis fan, not an "oh, look there's another SG franchise show" fan.

It's a matter of trust. I used to look forward to watching Atlantis, wondering what's adventure or puzzle was going to happen next. Now, I find myself watching at the show in trepidation, wondering who we're going to lose next, or whose role will be cut down because of budget reasons or an inability to write for the character.

Hear hear, there's been enough of the hysterical headless chicken stuff here recently without everyone jumping on the overcrowded bandwagon and saying their favourite character's for the chop so "Lets get up a petition" we all know it's a complete waste of time. If Atlantis slides into the mire during season 4 so be it, it was good while it lasted and I'm not going to lose sleep over a few cast changes.

Don't worry about the post. It is nice to know that people really like Zelenka and are concerned for his character. I agree about how sad some of the recent changes are, lets just hope that SGA survives all the changes. Other than 24 and Heros, it is one of the only shows I really care to watch on TV.

Svejk is the name of the soldier. The writer Jaroslav Hasek created him as part of his parody on the Austrian army during World War 1. The book is named 'Osudy dobreho vojaka Svejka' ('The tales of the good soldier Svejk')

Yes, I saw David in an episode of Cold Squad... he is very talented indeed, I might cap some of the (VERY scruffy, very nutty) character.

Anyway, I had to laugh, I was looking at some caps of the Art of War from David Nykl Info.com and came across these, do these expressions look familiar?

I agree. I think we are pretty good about keeping a healthy balance on the Zelenka's threads. I don't mind hearing what people have to say or think as long as it doesn't keep going on and on and on.......you get the drift (then it is time to start a different thread)

Which Cold Squad episode? I saw his Moonman performance and was really impressed with how well he played the character. Especially in the beginning of the show. It took me a minute to realize that Moonman was David. I know he has done a few other Cold Squad episodes but I haven't seen those yet.

Oh yes indeedy. I found a few David Nykl movies a few months ago and this was one of them. Had to get it. Was fun to see him playing a not so nice character and his facial expressions are just priceless!!
