You know, about the

creepy comments. I can totally see where people are coming from in that regard, but honestly, I can set that side off because I think the writers of the show didn't think that angle through. I don't think their minds went below the surface to the creepy rape aspects, but I do agree that what Lucius did *was* rape. So, for me, I can set that part of it aside and just accept this is entertainment and it wasn't meant to address the serious implications of the herb and what Lucius did to those people. I do wonder if Irresponsible *will* address that?

But when Sheppard is in his cell and Lucius is telling him 'you'll do the same' yeah, that dove for just a moment into the serious creepy and it was good!

no. I think that's an apt word. I think you're right. I've been having too much fun with the funny moments of this ep to really see the 'creepiness' of the guy. I saw some comments in threads calling this ep nothing but drug induced rape.

What's killing me about those comments is WHY are people going there? It's twisted to even go there. Yes there was a sense of creepiness. What was done was wrong, but that wasnt what the issue was supposed to be. SGA is simplification personified. It's not deep or moral or ethical. Nor is it meant to be. It's like the bruhaha over the Michael thing. Which also boggles my mind.

This ep was supposed to be crack. It was crack. It CRACKed me up. That's all it's meant to be. The writers never go for the meaning between the lines. They're so NOT that deep.

Gosh, Ali was so excited she forgot spoiler tags! Now I DEFINITELY can't wait to see this ep!! I was also trying not to be dubious, but all the negative allusions to this ep were really getting to me. I think a fun ep after Misbegotten is probably a good idea. *bounces in anticipation*

I actually liked that they went there in the sense of going a bit dark, cause it was creepy. And all about taking control of someone against their will. But people are taking it too far and twisting it beyond what the writers intended it to be. Which, given that that's what the writers do all the time, set something up without taking it DEEP or meaning too, or thinking through the implications. You'd think people would catch on by now. LOL

I liked that scene with Shep, then have to laugh at what Shep probably did to Rodney for using the herb on him. That was very bad of Rodney. LOL

*nods* yep! The writers typically don't go below the surface thoughts on episodes, and they've even said that. Michael/retrovirus was really the first voyage into that moral/ethical, lots of repercussions, area.

Lucius did make people do things they normally wouldn't do, and if you want to look at that angle, you can get really disturbed. *but* I do think the people getting up in arms and freaking out because Lucius is a 'serial rapist' need to remember that this was meant as crack. They said this was going to be a *crack* episode, everything discussed said it was going to just be a fun romp with a silly idea, aka Urgo, and it was. The justice for Lucius is up to the people on his planet and we don't know what they'll do to him in the end, but like someone else mentioned in that episode thread, we aren't the police of the Pegasus galaxy. They detox'ed Lucius' people, made them immune to the herb, and returned him, what happens from there is up to those people.

On the topic of old time whump, I can't really join in on your reminiscence of shows from the 70's and whatnot (being 23)... But for me, I don't really know when the whole thing started, but I suspect that I was a pretty early whumper too. In more recent years I've been an enthusiastic whumper of characters from most any show that I've whatched. One that bears mentioning, I think, is Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. There was some seriously awesome Sully-whump in that series!
Now, if only TPTB would treat Shep in the same way *sigh*
