John Sheppard/Teyla Emmagan Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
I saw a trailor for a show that is actually pushing its ship and it got me thinking. If either John or Teyla told the other that they loved them but the other said they didn't feel the same, how would you feel about the characters?
Hmmm. That would be tough. I think it all depends how they say no. I mean there are times that the one might say it, but are still hiding their feelings for some reason. Like maybe they had a bad track record of dating or whatever. If they meant it then I would feel bad for the one the confessed their feelings.
I'm babysitting for the next 7 hrs and then I have an eye appointment. So, I'm not sure when I'll be back. Hopefully at nap time.
“SG-1 is the longest running science fiction show ever. We did 10 seasons of that and then five seasons of Atlantis, and they overlapped, so we were tired,” Wright says. “MGM still wanted us to do another Stargate series. We were tired of the old way and not only that, television has grown, it has changed. We wanted our show to reflect more of the kinds of shows that we were watching, more of a reality shooting style. We’ve got a handheld camera in scenes, often duelling cameras, jsut trying to capture scenes in a very documentary feel, far less stagey. Create sets that look like the real thing as oposed to sets.
“All of these things that we asked for required a lot more money than we started either of these (previous) shows with. We are starting Universe much more well-financed. The other two were good shows and I’m proud of most of them, but they kind of looked occasionally cheaper than a network show. And this one looks expensive.”
Some of that money went to Universe’s name-actor cast, headlined by respected Scots actor Robert Carlyle as an misanthropic scientist, and including Ming-na, Lou Diamond Phillips and Canadian Louis Ferreira. Also among the mostly Canadian cast are Elyse Levesque, Carlo Rota and Alaina Huffman.
“We launched Atlantis really without a major name, because of the funding level,” says Wright, adding the same backstage crew — from writers to construction — put out Atlantis and SG-1 simultaneously for three seasons. “We wanted this time to devote all our energies and get the budget we wanted. We went after the biggest names we could get. Quite often you go for a Robert Carlyle and you don’t get them, so you go down your wish list. Well, he was number one on the list and he said yes.”
“SG-1 was a family show that was kind of bubble-gummy, we had big rubber-faced, English speaking bad guys, you know,” Wright says. “I’m not second-guessing 300-plus hours of Stargate, those two shows were what they were, they certainly fit the way Richard Dean Anderson likes to do things, whch is quippy and funny and not taking things too seriously. But we wanted to do some real drama, and I didn’t want to run around in trees anymore too.”
That’s a reference to SG-1’s knack for finding alien planets that looked like the rural outskirts of Vancouver.
“Right now, I could do this forever. I love this cast so much, it’s fun making this show. I’m Canadian, I’m making a dream science fiction show in my country, Robert Carlyle is number one on my call sheet, Louis Ferreira is number two. Show me a better place to work and I’d go there.”
