Each day I wake to suffering. A pain that consumes me though to see me you would never know.

There are feelings a man has that can never be said; never be explained. Even though we don’t talk about them, doesn’t mean they aren’t the most powerful force within us. They can alter our actions or rip the very heart from our chest while we remain smiling just so the world doesn't really know.

Jealousy, anger, hatred, desire…..many words for many feelings. All leading to the same massive pain a man can hold while he gasps for breath; a shell of what he once was. Well that’s how I feel at least.

To watch her every single day, wishing things were different, wishing I could change things; most days it’s more than I can bear. Fire consumes me and it’s hard to recognize some semblance of myself, some semblance of the man I used to be.

I’ve put myself in this place of darkness. Inaction is my enemy, it is the reason my heart and bed are empty and I fear I shall never overcome.

How do I extinguish this burning ash from my chest when sometimes I think it is the only thing keeping me alive?

We've got another birthday in the house, y'all!

LandJRule's birthday is on October 1st.

“Teyla, I’m sorry.”

If it had happened under different circumstances, John would have been surprised that Rodney’s apology came so easily; accepting responsibility for his errors was not something Rodney did without a fight.

“It is fine,” came her soft reply.

Rodney fidgeted. “Are you sure? I mean, I could--”

Sensing John’s agitation, Teyla put her hand up. “I am certain. I think it is best if we move things forward.” The last sentence was spoken to John.

The colonel's quick retreat from the campsite was his response. As expected, Teyla quickly followed him. “What is wrong?” she asked worriedly.

John turned back to where he came from, watching Rodney frowning into the fire Teyla had built an hour earlier. “I can’t believe he did that,” he gritted through his teeth.

“John,” she said lightly, “it is not a problem.”

Anger raged through his body. He knew Teyla was the most forgiving person he met, but still, this was almost too much to ask of her. “It was yours,” was all he could manage to say.

“He did not know that,” she responded. “He was getting firewood when you gave it to me, remember? When I got up to stoke the fire, he saw it there and--”

“Took it without asking,” he interrupted.

He could tell she was confused by his reaction. Certainly from her point of view there were a dozen offenses that Rodney had committed that were far worse than this.

“John, it was just a Shmo,” she said.

“It’s a s’more,” he corrected. Once again, his body ached at not being able to watch her eat the delicious treat; the melted chocolate that would drip on her chin, the gooey marshmallow covering her bottom lip, the way her tongue would reach out and lick it off.

No, he thought bitterly, instead he had to watch Rodney eat it.

“You can always make me another,“ she offered. “The fire is still burning strong.“

He kicked an innocent rock into a tree, the image of McKay closing his eyes in ecstasy as he took a bite of Teyla’s s’more filled his mind.

“No more s’mores on off-world missions. My mind can’t take the disappointment,” he said, leading them back to the campsite with a pout.
