John Sheppard/Teyla Emmagan Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
I was a little underwhelmed by the ep. I came out of it thinking what the point of the ep was apart from to introduce some new recurring characters. I mean, there have been stand alone eps in the past that haven't had much point to them but I've never come out of the ep thinking that before (okay, except for Trio ) I loved Dusty, I hope we get to see more of her, I was expecting her to be one of the red shirts, didn't expect Vega to die at all, but Dusty was the one I really felt like I got to know in this ep and would like to see more off. I thought for certain Vega was the one that would survive! But then we did learn absolutely nothing about her and she barely had any lines, so if we hadn't read so much hype about her she probably would have been the prime candidate to die. I thought Major Teldy was going to die too or at least one other.
I was gobsmacked that Shep didn't know the all female team. Sheppard was definately OOC for me, I even thought that during the ep, which I don't usually do, I usually only notice OOC moments on reflection. And yes, weakest ep of the season so far. But still not bad
Some really lovely comments from RL and JF that you may need tissues for And AT is great as well. They really seem to understand the fans unlike a certain other person on there who I still feel like punching every time I see him!

Thanks Cazz for this link!
Spoiler:
It is kinda of sad! You can tell that JF really is upset that the show has gotten cancelled and how affected his is. RL, also. But, really JF, he is almost is at a loss for words, which is unlike him. Even, AT is baffled that it got cancelled because, they were talking about the how good the ratings are. But, I guess that obviously doesn't matter either. The name of the show has to be Eureka in order to get any props and season pick ups.

Answer: I seriously doubt it. The decision has been made and, while I empathize with the fans, I think it’s unlikely that their protests will change anyone’s mind. A significant and sustained ratings spike, on the other hand, would certainly raise a few eyebrows.

"Hey, Whispers finally airs tonight (10:00 p.m. on Sci Fi)! If you enjoy thoughtful, character-driven stories that explore the themes of trust, friendship, and the indomitability of the human spirit, then you should definitely check out our last episode, The Shrine. If, on the other hand, you’re in the mood for some good creepy fun, then tonight’s episode is for you. Sit back, break out the popcorn, and enjoy.
Back when I first started thinking about this story at the beginning of the season, I knew there were certain elements I wanted to include: an abandoned village, a mysterious fog, and things that go bump in the night. I also wanted to incorporate some new characters into the mix as a means of keeping the viewers off-balance. I didn’t want them to be red shirts but personalities that the viewers could invest in and care about - particularly when darkness fell and the fog rolled in. After all, let’s face it - we know that our cast will most probably live to fight another day. Secondary characters on the other hand are fair game and that’s one of the great things about horror movies: you never know who’s going to make it to the final credits. So, over the course of a week or two, I fleshed out the idea. I decided on a threat that, while different, was nevertheless linked to the show’s mythology. I came up with a logical reason for that pervasive fog. And, I created an all-female team to ride shotgun with Sheppard and Beckett on this one.
The three biggest challenges in this episode were the fog, the casting, and the look of the creatures. We ran into some problems with our initial fog test on stage 4. While it certainly looked great, certain crewmembers were feeling less so after spending a little over an hour in the swirling mist. Adding to the concern was the fact that it would take hours to fog up the village set and then a good half day to clear it out. Several ideas were bounced around, from trimming down the fog sequences significantly, adjusting the density, or even shooting through a fogged aquarium to approximate the desired look. In the end, it was Production Designer James Robbins who came up with the perfect compromise solution. Rather than make cuts to the script or go with a thinner fog level, we tented certain areas of the FX stage. We had three tented areas, each of which could be quickly fogged up for the appropriate scenes. Will would run a rehearsal with the actors first, then bring in the second team to make sure his shots were set up just the way he wanted them. Finally, the tent was fogged up and the actors returned to shoot the scene. We tried to minimize their exposure to the fog element.
The all-female team was made up of:
Major Anne Teldy, a tough as nails, by-the-book commanding officer who was, of course, named after blog regular (and contest winner) Anne Teldy. When it came to casting, I was looking for someone good, strong, and, above all else, believable. And Christina Cox’s audition delivered that in spades. Watching it, I totally bought into her as a kick-ass military officer. Of course, a lot of that could have had to do with the fact that Christina is pretty kick-ass in person. She’s had weapons training and extensively researched previous roles in procedural drama. She was perfect.
Captain Alicia Vega was introduced in Search and Rescue but her meaty scenes were unfortunately cut for time. Of the foursome and despite the fact that she is a Captain, she has seen little action in the Pegasus Galaxy. Despite being relatively green to off-world excursions, she’s eager to get out and flex her muscles (as evidenced by her take-down of the wraith dart in S&R). Leela Savasta had a small part in a past Atlantis episode (in The Tao of Rodney) but did such a memorable job that we had no qualms about casting her in the role. In my mind, the two characters are twin sisters - one military, the other serving as a member of the expedition’s science department.
Sergeant “Dusty“ Mehra, the team’s trash-talking loose cannon with a fierce hankering for some alien ass-kicking. There were a number of great auditions for this colorful character, but the role ultimately went to actress Janina Gavankar who, it turns out, was given the wrong sides and came in thinking she was auditioning for the role of Major Teldy. The fact that she had next to no time to prepare what was essentially a cold read made the audition all the more impressive.
Dr. Alison Porter, team scientist and resident adorable nerd. Nicole de Boer didn’t audition for Porter. Like Janina, she actually came in to read for the role of Major Teldy but, even reading Teldy’s dialogue, it was clear to Paul and I that we had found our Porter. After she’d been cast, Nicole admitted that she was actually bummed when told she’d be auditioning for Teldy. She thought she’d make a better Porter!"

Interesting!
Spoiler:
I wonder what the unhappy note is. I know it couldn't possibly be the death of Kanaan that is the unhappy note. Believe you /me, I for one will swingin' and shoutin' from the rafters when that moment happens. Now, if they get rid of the Beckett clone, I've got to admit, I will be really bummed! I even love'im even though he's not the real one. So, I want to know!
Who's going to bite it or whatever for the unhappy ending?
I saw the promo for the Queen last night! So, I wonder if we are going to get any positive JT moments! It looks so awesome!

hmm I thought this was supposed be kinda horrory....I didn't think it was that scary....Or maybe i just don't scare easily.......And no Teyla at all in this ep....No Ronon too for that matter
Teyla wasn't in alot of eps in season 4 and i understand why because of the pregnancy but why the hell does she have to be missing in eps this season
I thought she was a main character....Maybe she's recurring and no one told me
Why couldn't they keep Vega..I liked her better than the other lassie...Um Dusty i think her name was...
I just didn't really like this ep all that much...For a scary ep it wasn't scary at all...It didn't even get the heartbeat going faster....
Nice to see Carson back but to be honest he wasn't at his greatest here and the scenes with Porter were a little cringeworthy....
Don't get me wrong I like Nicole De Boer and i liked Porter but her and Casron just don't work!!!

I saw the promo for the Queen last night! So, I wonder if we are going to get any positive JT moments! It looks so awesome!
I am not assuming anything anyomore..I've had my aass bit too many times to assume anything about anything on Atlantis!
Not very scary, but I did jump when 'Dusty' claimed they'd shot all 13, and then another one attacked. Whoops....
Kinda liked this team. Although there's one team member missing now. Which happened real quick! I didn't think she'd be dead... but I guess sga never has a whole of of trouble with killing people off.
Anywho, I enjoyed watching it. Though I did miss Ronon and Teyla a bit. I wondered how their team would have done in a situation like this....
Oh i loved John hannah in the mummy...He was freakin hilarious!
hehe thanks guys....I've not had any pickaxes thrown at me yet!
Oh yeah I love him and too in (okay what is the title 4 weddings and a death ???it's the french translation i'm too late now to search the english title)
As for Ronon:
I'm sure that's because Jason has the new little lady in his life. She must be over a year old now. :
Thanks hun and awesome job
How can we not look at them? You're using them as your sigs.
You're probably right about Ronon but from his interview and the possibility of S7 I have concluded that perhaps he wasn't really happy for eing letting down a lot but it's just my opiion lol
I also came to Post this as seen as the Weather here as Prevented me from Moving what Stuff we had Plus the Gasman never Showed up so its another Night With the Internet Yay

Oh and NO TEYLA IN THIS EP That pisses me off
Whispers
Spoiler:
No I didn't find it very scary either, the only bit that got me a bit tense was when Carson was on his own in house.
And why the hell did Porter go off on her own??? I kept expecting something to come of that but it never did
Oh, I much prefered Dusty I thought she was really different to the usual stargate characters
I missed Teyla and Ronon A LOT! It kinda felt like a waste of an ep for me Especially now that there aren't that many left
What we do in life echoes in eternity - GladiatorvghUp the Blades!
I saw some great art from you Donna! And yay! for getting internet quicker than you thought
Here is the banner I've been working on for aboleyn in the Shep whump thread, she is hoping to set up an SGA tribute site for vids and such

Oh and NO TEYLA IN THIS EP That pisses me off
I haven't seen Whispers yet but I wanted to make my thought on S5 generally before seeing Whispers because I fear it influences my view of the eps.
Spoiler:
First of all Linda I agree with you about T"eyla I'm disappointed that she wasn't in here but nobody will change my mind that S5 was good so far for Teyla it can happen that the focus isn't on one character for several eps particularly on Atlantis but it's here where is my problem :
I'm sure that I will love Whispers because it seems angsty but action and well packed. Probably a little Vengeance and I love this ep and my problem is here and I would like your opinion
we had 7 eps so far and there is non who mark me a lot i mean I know there was a lot of team moments but nothing really important. The proof is that this is 2 weeks where we havent the team together and with the lack of eps and all I'm under the impression that it makes a long time.
I don't like to say that I like action eps because it seems that you're a big brute who hate all that who need brain but SG1 did awesome team eps with a lot of action and team moment and reflexion. I so loved when they passed the gate upside down.
Since when did they explore something with action and the gate and puddle jumper and the TEAM. One ep like WHISPERS would have probably become my fav ep but there isn't tthe team (what make the Show IMO) so what is the point ? And even if I'm not particularly fond of continuity and all it makes IMO a lot of eps who bring a little something for the stargate universe but what for the characters ?
I can't explain what bothered me but I'm bothered too by the lack of JT moments. Even as not a shipper the JT moments were the only thing on which we could count to show that it's Stargate with the characters and their moments. I think we had nothing since Broken Ties and we even believed that it means something more significatice like a little tension between JT but not at all because in The Shrine is as if nothing happened so what was the point of SéR we never had so long time without interaction (sinificative interaction) between characters
And nowas a shipper i start to be really bothered by the lack of interaction between JT but by a lot of things too
I've read that Shep seemed OOC but for me it makes sometimes that he seems OOC but I don't think it comes from Shep but for the lack of signicative Shep moments Nothing is give to him to act he acts always the same hero without emotion to act and now he doesn't have Teyla to show something I mean I love the JT because together they bring something to the characters that never exist in other moment Finally I think Teyla was given something that she plays with Shep with the baby and Kanaan and I feel as if I have lost something JT and Shep because I like him and yet now I am a little 'meh' on the character
I can't expalin things id you understand what I mean ? Did you feel the same ? Did you know what my problem is ? Ican't put the finger on it and it bothers me Or simply I'm in a bad mood and I hope I totally dream things lol
In Search & Rescue, JT fans were encouraged but now it seems that they are playing John & Teyla as keeping their distance and back to just being fellow co-workers. I thought Whispers was ok but I only enjoyed it because of Carson and Sheppard in it. I didn't understand either why Teyla or Ronon were not in this episode. They weren't even present in the beginning...at least we should have been given some reason why they didn't go with Sheppard on this mission.
