I posted all the parts I have written. If you are wanting a better understanding of the universe, you'll have to read Sci's "Future Past". I haven't posted the story anywhere but here. I don't intend on posting it on ff.net because I have no idea when I'll finish it. (Before today, the last time I worked on it was back in August.)

Humor is the great thing, the saving thing after all. The minute it crops up, all our hardnesses yield, all our irritations, and resentments flit away, and a sunny spirit takes their place. --Mark Twain

I just watched SoW for the second time and I have to say that I appreciate it that much more this time around. With the squee factor lessened (I hardly think it'll ever disappear, not in relation to this), it was easier to pick up on things... I've jotted them down on a notepad and I will type it up as soon as but here we are...
            Spoiler:
I still love the locker room scene; she looks so mad at him.

The thing I like the most about the end scene is not, in fact, the hug. It's the fact that she admts to John that he was right and that she can't put him before her child. That says to me that John means something to her that, for a while, her child couldn't overcome and it was only when her son's life was risked that she realised she couldn't do it. I am not for one second suggesting that Teyla doesn't want or love her child, but I think she's had such a heavy burden that she can't quite accept it just yet - as is shown by her lack of reaction to Lorne's congratulations.

It also says that John knows she would willingly risk her life for him, despite her child. He knows that she still wants to and that's why he doesn't want her to come on mission; he won't have her choose between him (and the team) and her unborn child.

Looking at it for the second time (in context, not counting all the times I just watched the little end scene), the hug does seem awkward. Not from Teyla's POV but from John's. I think he's still struggling to understand his position with her, what he feels. In my mind, he's wondering what the hell the feelings that are floating inside of him are because he can't quite understand it.

I also loved the bit in the locker room where Teyla says "Are you just trying to protect me or are you still mad because I didn't tell you sooner?" for two reasons. One is that she knows he just wants to protect her and that has got to be comforting for her, especially in such a trying time for her. Secondly, it's the fact that she knows that he was mad (how could she not, after BAMSR?) but the use of "still" makes it seem as though they have talked about it since then and he's made it clear he's not happy. She knows she should have told him sooner as is shown by their conversation in the Jumper. Which I also love because he can't bring himself to look at her when she's talking about it.

            Oh the angst!

There will be more to follow but that's the preliminary...
don't worry, soon we won't have to say goodbye.

                Spoiler:

Elizabeth smiled wickedly at them. “My, I wasn’t expecting on ever seeing you again.”

“We were going to say the same about you,” John said, taking in the appearance of his former friend. Despite the time that had passed, Elizabeth looked no older than the day they lost her on the Replicator home world.

“What are you doing here? I mean, you’re obviously not the Elizabeth from Atlantis. Where are the other Replicators?” Rodney asked, still in disbelief.

A breeze caressed her face, whispering the secrets John and Rodney wanted to hear. She studied them for a second before answering. “I am the Elizabeth Weir that you knew thirty years ago. I am what you made me, Rodney,” she said maliciously. “Not quite human, not quite Replicator.”

She turned her gaze to John. “As to my comrades, they decided now that they have nearly conquered Earth, I am no further use to them. They left me here weeks ago.”

“Weeks?” John asked disbelievingly. “Were they planning on coming back?”

Her bitter laugh chilled him. “No. They were going to leave me here, just like you abandoned me,” she said, her voice full of contempt.

“You told us to leave,” Ronon replied, angered by her resentment. "Sheppard was just following your orders."

She whipped to face him. “I told you to leave. Not to never come back.”

Rodney and John looked at each other. For months, the guilt of leaving Elizabeth behind weighed heavily on them. Even after thirty years, the ache of not being able to save her was still fresh in their souls.

                “Elizabeth, you know--”

Before John finished speaking, Elizabeth began convulsing and fell to the ground. Her eyes rolled in the back of her head. Instinctively, John started to go down to help his former friend.

                “Don’t!” all three men yelled.

“Those nanites would infect you in seconds,” Rodney warned.

They watched helplessly as she trembled for a few seconds longer. Ronon looked at Sheppard. “What should we do?”

Jason saw the haunted look in his father’s eyes. Sadly, it was a look he was familiar with; he wore it every time one more person he cared about was lost to the Replicators. This was more painful in some ways, he knew, because Elizabeth had been the first casualty in the war. Now his father was watching her suffer under the power of the Replicators again.

John swallowed hard before answering, “Nothing. Let’s go.”

All four of them turned away before they heard a desperate whisper, “Rodney…John…help me.”

Instantly they recognized the change in her tone of voice. This was the Elizabeth they knew. Rodney ran to her side. “Elizabeth,” he breathed.

The seizing had stopped, but her eyes were dilated, looking wild. She focused on nothing, seemingly oblivious to where the men were standing. “Help me. Change. The. Base. Code.” Her voice was shaking. They could see her struggling to keep control.

Sheppard looked at Rodney. “Can you do it?”

After thinking for a moment, Rodney finally shook his head. “No. I could temporarily change it, but I have no idea how long it would take for the nanites to rewrite it. For the change to be permanent, I need her in my lab.”

Jason could almost see his father’s thoughts, weighing out the pros and the cons. Before John could make a decision, Jason spoke up, “I think it is worth the risk, father.”

Three pairs of surprised eyes looked at him. “You do?”

Full of confidence, Jason nodded. “Who would be better to assist us in our fight against the Replicators? Colonel Carter and Doctor McKay are nearly finished in their reconfigurations of the drones. I believe she will be able to further assist us once Doctor McKay can rewrite the base code.”

John thought for a moment before nodding, “All right, McKay, do it. But if you sense the slightest feeling that something is wrong, we’re out of here.”

Rodney nodded as he began working on his tablet. “Don’t worry, Elizabeth, we’re going to take you back home,” he promised.

Ronon walked next to Jason. “I don’t like this. She could lead the Replicators to Atlantis if McKay screws up.”

Jason froze as he stopped to consider the possible repercussions. Atlantis was a mere shell of what it was thirty years ago when it had been rediscovered from the people from Earth. Constant repairs were barely enough to keep the base in livable condition. Still, despite the poor state it was in, Jason would do everything in his power to keep it safe. It was his home; no Replicator would ever destroy it.

Before he could question himself, John spoke up. “Jason’s right,” John defended. “She has insight into the inner workings of the Replicators. Hell, we might even have a fighting chance of surviving this whole thing.”

After a few minutes, McKay looked up. “We’re set. I don’t know how much time we have do we need to get back to Atlantis quickly.”

Two hours later, the arrived back on Atlantis. Ronon escorted Elizabeth with Rodney down to his lab while John and Jason went up to the control room. A somber Teyla greeted them.

“What’s wrong?” John asked concern in his voice.

To his surprise, her eyes began watering up. “It is the Replicators. Soon after you left, Doctor Zelenka discovered four war ships entering sensor range. They have found us.”

Three predictions regarding Kanan in future eps of Stargate Atlantis.
                  Spoiler:
                  1. Kanan will turn up in a future episode of SGA.

Why? Because he's the focal point of the missing Athosians, the representative of Teyla's search for them. Whether or not I as a John/Teyla shipper like him is irrelevant in the context of Teyla's search for her people. If the missing Athosian storyline is to be resolved, we can't just "find her people, but Kanan died, oh noes, oh well, next episode". There's no emotional resolution for Teyla in it.

At some stage, Kanan will turn up in person on the show, however briefly.

The 'however briefly' clause takes us into statement #2.

                  2. Kanan will not be a long-term love interest for Teyla once he turns up in person.

Why? Because no external relationship in the Stargate Universe is ever given one-tenth the degree of interaction or importance that the relationships within the team and among the regular characters are given. Kynthia, Laira, Kerry; Jonas Hanson, Narim, Orlin, Joe Faxon, Pete Shanahan; Sha're, Shayla, Kira, Sarah Gardiner; Drey'auc, Shau'nac, Ish'ta...

The story isn't about the romantic liaisons outside of the team. It's about the bonds within the team, the connections they have to each other. No mere romance is going to change that - no, not even Kanan of the Athosians.

In the case of SG-1, the 'romantic dynamic' was Sam/Jack - and even while Sam was dating Pete Shanahan, there were episodes like 'Heroes' and 'Lost City' and 'Threads'.

Hell, look at us! We've had 'Doppelganger' and 'Missing' and 'Spoils Of War'. We may have more before the season's out!

The laws of show-writing dictate that either Teyla and Kanan will fizzle out because they've changed too much with all they've been through since they last saw each other (or some such reason), or we go to point #3.

This is the one that you'll like, even if you haven't liked the other ones.

                  3. Kanan will die within a couple of episodes of his appearing.

Why? For the same reason as #1. He's the connection with the Athosians - the useful face-of-connection for the audience to latch onto - and he's expendable as Teyla isn't.

Why do you think that people like Carson and Kate have been killed over the last few seasons? Because there's no audience involvement unless the audience has a connection onto which to latch: someone that they can get emotionally attached to, not just some faceless name that they've been given.

Charin's already died. Halling hasn't been seen since Season 1 (Christopher Heyerdahl ending up playing every second Wraith in the Pegasus galaxy). Jinto's a kid (and hasn't been seen since the end episode).

That's why Kanan will appear in the show and not just die off-screen. He's the sacrificial lamb of the Athosian people.s My prediction is that he'll die on-screen, in a fashion that's meaningful - it gives the team time to get away, or as a sacrifice to someone else's life.

Please note: these are predictions, not facts. They're based not on what I want to see, but on a history of the Stargate Universe and the story patterns of the Stargate PTB. But don't quote me on this.
Maybe this makes me a "bad shipper" and I should go play with the Shweirs instead, but this is my opinion without recourse to whether or not I want to see Kanan as a character, and with thought given to the way Stargate Atlantis is developed and driven as a show.

Honestly, even as a John/Teyla shipper, I like the idea of Kanan: that Teyla's attractive and attracted to someone - that she's not going to pine over John, that she's not going to patiently wait for John to make the move. That she loves John, but that love can be about letting go as well.

And, yes, I like the John angst involved in the storyline: the fact that he didn't get his emotional act together and lost the chance at what he could have had, and now must deal with being one of Teyla's emotional bulwarks while knowing he can't hope for more.

It appeals to the angst b!tch in me. *shrugs*

                  Sel.

thanks to all for the kind words regarding the mishap (that's what I'm calling it now).

Nina- I offer you 2 suggestions Re: "Keep Holding On" vid.
                        1) I'm happy to edit the thingy that goes with it (the "about the video"), so you are credited- just say the word, & it will be done.
                        or
                        2) If you wish, I will remove it from youtube.

                        And Re making my vid:
                        Thanks LC for your comments!
And I would honestly make my own bits from episodes- if only I had the right software....... I can play DVDs on my computer, just not rip things from them. And I only have Windows Movie Maker, & its got the basic crap in it, so making changes to bits is harder for me.

And I'm in a depressed mood right now.
And it's not just due to this posting vids on utube thing- it's only the beginning.

Tertiary offers came out at 7:30pm last night- I didn't get any, which didn't really bother me cos its only Round 1!!!!
Today, though, the careers lady at my ex-school rang me- & this is where I get the depressed mood- & suggested I ring the damn institutions to see if there's some other courses I could apply to through them, for VTAC don't list the full list of courses.

But, lately, since exams, I've lost all interest in going to Uni or TAFE. (I'm sure my enter score didn't help) But whenever I try telling Mum- or dad, or my sister- I always end up never finding the words. (well, I tell them I don't want to go to Uni or Tafe, & they ask "why?". I dunno- I just LOST INTEREST, there's NO reason. God, family can be sooo horrible sometimes to cope with).
Now I'm depressed, & a little stressed. God, I wish I could just go forward in time to after all this stupid Uni & TAFE offerings. It's not a happy time!

And then I've got no Stargate (Sg-1 or Atlantis) to cheer me up- I've watched all the episodes I've got on DVD, & its not on the TV atm.
And I'm almost in tears too!
God, I hate myself right now.......

                        Spoiler:

*peeks into thtread from a lab with Teyla tied down to a table* I think I can help here, L&J I think what you need to do is what I do, it helps a lot, and thanks to one of Lornes teams members I have been doing this for about a week now, when I get bored i go to youtube and look up the Three Stooges, if you can't get a laugh out of them, try Red Skelton, the classics these all are! Then when you get bored of those you can either watch le Doctor Whoon either DVD or Youtube, or if you are bored of him you can go back to Stargate (the actual movie)

If those don't work come on by the bar and join Myn and myself in a Poker game with Who & What

                            I like your thinking here...

                            Spoiler:
I think John's body language speaks volumes here also. In the locker room(he keeps trying to avoid looking at her), then again in the jumper and to a lesser extent on the hive. I think it's because it is unbearable for John to look at her and not think about the child she is caring for some other guy. So yeah he's hurting a bit and trying to build up a wall to stop his feelings for Teyla from spilling out.
