When I mentioned the Blood Eagle being portrayed less violent and horrifying than it could have been, I didn't say we didn't get to see what it is. I mean, they did leave a little to the imagination but the fact that the one undergoing the Blood Eagle couldn't scream as he would not be able to go to Walhalla helped. Jarl Borg kept his tongue, but it wasn't any less bloody. However, photography wise it was light just right, the scoring was perfect and the motions of the actors were brilliant.

Sounds like the director really knew what he was doing.

I was thinking more along the lines of showing the intent of the action without showing all the bloody details. Of course I could have misunderstood what FH was trying to say.

Besides what writer is going to let historical fact get in the way of the tale he/she wants to tell?

Just looked the show up on wikipedia. She is the character that has intriuged me most in the teasers I've seen.

While he was on the run for seven years I could definately see Ronon using some of the same skills that were common knowledge to the Vikings. Heck he might even think what Bear Grylls did on Man vs. Wild would have been a vacation.

Taking a Friday evening off of homework (long day, kids are here, no attention span lol) and popping in to say hello.

I've gotten myself all sucked into Criminal Minds and the way I'm fangirling and shipping and ficcing (I'm talkin' song fic :O ) reminds me of how I felt when I first started watching SGA and shipping Sparky. It's fun getting all excited about a show!

It also makes me miss you guys (I don't have anyone to flail over CM over)!!!

Anyhow, I've spent the entire day on my couch playing Harvest Moon. Really making the most out of my summer vacation, huh? LOL

I'm sorry you missed out on that. Over here the specific branch of service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines) will send a detail to do a graveside service. The funeral director set it all up for us. The Army sent a group of soldiers who played Taps, folded the flag that was on his casket and presented it to my son with a little speech of thanks for my Dad's service "from a grateful nation." If you're not in tears by that point, you will be before it's over. I remember following the hearse on the way to the cemetery through the small town I grew up in. You could clearly see the flag-draped casket in the back. All along the way, people stopped in their yards, took their hats off and put their hands over their hearts. If he were still alive, my dad would be 96 this year. So many of our WWII vets are gone, with thousands dying every day. Only the youngest who served are still with us now.

Our current military wouldn't go to that extent. It's fallen into disarray. At one of the recent ANZAC services (which are very well attended by the civilian population) there was supposed to be a flyover by a Hercules (and other planes) but the Mayor had to announce that the Hercules was otherwise engaged - ferrying an elephant. There was a bit of a pause before the crowd started laughing at the ridiculousness of it all

I saw an on the street interview recently in which a number of young people on a college campus didn't know who Adolf Hitler was. That's only the tip of the iceberg, I'm afraid.

I have to say that history has never been emphasised in this country (even our own) but jeepers, that is scary. It's in the population's living memory FCOL!!

Concerning young folk not knowing about what happened in our past, I'm not surprised they don't know their history anymore. They generally don't care about it either... My cousin is a History/Dutch teacher, and I have to say I'm thoroughly ashamed when I see the textbooks they use in class when it concerns History.

Our history is primarily European history, with large chunks of Middle-Eastern civilizations. So, that's Egypt, Greece, Rome, medieval, industrial revolution, and a side dish of American history. Although, a small bit of American history when I mostly remember our teacher pulling her hair when she tried to explain the presidential elections and most of the class was like "Say what now?" ... so we re-enacted one such election instead. That was fun.

Anyhow, it's not just our young folk who don't know anymore. Two years ago, a friend and I visited the Westhoek (more commonly known as Flander's Fields) and we would attend The Last Post underneath the Menin Gate at Ypres. When my coworkers asked me what I was going to do on my trip, I mentioned this and that we were going to visit the In Flander's Fields museum, and a lot of the Commonwealth cemeteries and the German one near Passendale. One of them gave me this blank stare and asked me what that was The Last Post... I nearly fell off my chair out of utter shock.

Well, I have learned a thing or two from the esteemed Executive Prodoucher, so what I can reveal is that John and Elizabeth switch positions in this ep. No, not in the bedroom (or do they????). It's the long anticipated Elizabeth goes on a mission while John has to mind the shop ep. Plus, in an homage to M&M's Misbegotten, I accidentally crafted a scene that I'm told screams sparky (I believe the phrase was "the sparkies are going to have a field day over that line") even though that wasn't my intention

I do it just to yell at the stupid people who complain so much and what you said. I've heard they are all fake, but who cares. I just want to see the houses. Of course, living where I do, I always see fabulous houses that cost half what mine would sell for in some other city and tell Mr. SR all about them later.

Like you, I watch Say Yes To the Dress, Atlanta (which I greatly prefer to the NY one) and the home shows. What always gets me on the home shows is when a couple is buying a million dollar house but complains because they don't like the paint color in one room. Dude, you're rich. You're buying a million dollar house. You have enough money to pay someone to paint a freaking room.
