Just back from seeing the new Hobbit movie. Interesting what they did. And not necessarily in a totally good way. Still very good and worth seeing, however.

That and more. Rewriting Tolkien is blasphemy. Even though we all liked the character and enjoyed the movie, we don't see the reason for the changes. After waiting over 40 years for a decent version of this book, three fans were left a bit annoyed. *fumes*

i thought it was awesome. i don't need a step by step adaptation of the book. if i wanted that, i would just have read the damn book.

I can't say the book is better since that was also longwinded (and boring), and there was no need for it to be split into three movies. If The Hobbit was worth 3 movies, than LOTR would have been 6, or longer. Of course, it depends what you look for in a film. But, calling it the "damn book", seriously... the book was first.

I did read the book. I read it in high school and again in college. I read the "damn" book aloud to my son before he could read it for himself. My husband has read it so many times he has lost count, and so have most of my friends. Heck, I belonged to a Tolkien fan club in high school before anyone else here was even born. So, yes, I wanted to see a movie about the book, not someone's idea of what the book should have been.

I said I liked the movie and I did, but I just think when you make a movie from a book, not just this one but any book, the movie should only be about what is actually written in the book! And that is my last word on that. I am sorry I mentioned it.
