Those are amazing Nolamom and they would showed just what would have brought some greatness to that episode.

I've watched all the Vala episodes (just loved her) and a smattering of others.

I really like Vala, she was a great addition to the last seasons.

I especially liked a scene (that also really surprised me) and that was a scene with Sam and Vala in Landry’s office and for some reason he wasn’t there but Sam still felt uncomfortable so she sat down in one of the chairs in front of the desk but Vala being Vala sat down in the commanders chair behind the desk and says something like “This place should really have a woman in charge” and Sam replies “It did, back when Dr. Elizabeth Weir was in charge of the SGC” (it’s been a while since I saw those episodes of SG-1 so I don’t remember exactly what they said) but I was really surprised that they mentioned Elizabeth in that scene especially since they were so against bring her up on SGA later on.

What pisses me off immensely is the fact that when the Stargate franchise is mentioned somewere in the press, it's SG-1 and SGU that are mentioned, and SGA gets ignored.

I remember seeing an interview that Jason did at Comic-Con 2011 when he was there with GoT and someone asked him if that was the first time he had been there and he said no and said that he had been there with Stargate Atlantis a few years before, that was one of the few time I’ve heard it mentioned outside of the SG fandom.

Yeah, but I don't understand why. SGA was much more popular than SGU, it had a much more passionate and vocal fanbase. If anything, SGU should be the red-headed step-child,given how ignoble and quick its end was.

David Hewlett may be getting more attention because he was the only one who was in all three Stargate shows, so he's more connected to the franchise as a whole. People who never watched SGA still know him from SG-1. Not that I disagree that others should also get attention.

Perhaps, but the bit about Atlantis being on the moon comes direct from pages Mallozzi actually posted on his blog back in the day. So no distortion there.

It would have to have been *really* clear at that point, most of the population (of whichever planet they went to) would have been dead.

Considering how the Ancients basically cut and run the first time without cleaning up their messes in Pegasus, I get the impression they wouldn't have cared all that much.

Agreed. I understand they 'sped up' their five year plan during s2 as ratings fell. It would have been interesting to see what that plan actually was.

If that's what they call "sped up," I can only imagine the original plan would've taken even longer to get going. I'll pass.

Compared to SG-1, Atlantis doesn't really have a mythological background, so I also appreciated how everything about Atlantis was just... believable, you could say. I felt that everything in the show could happen in real life. It's a bit difficult to explain, but I can just imagine, in real life, that an expedition comprised of ordinary humans from Earth, be they scientists or military, travels to another galaxy to discover a lost technologically-advanced city. I say "ordinary humans" to emphasize that these were just normal people like us who just happened to place themselves in extraordinary circumstances. They didn't have any superpowers, only their own knowledge and wits that they used to help them survive. And that's also why the characters appealed to me, because the problems they encountered were so similar to those we deal with in our lives, and I've always felt that I could easily connect to and emphasize with them.

Maybe not mythological, but certainly classical. Plato, in his socio-political dialogue "Critias", ties the story of Atlantis (which Plato may or may not have invented; it's the first recorded mention of it) into Greek mythology.

Me neither. Usually when someone leaves a show, I wonder what they did to get fired, if they are pregnant, or if it's some other reason. I would have thought that about Torri. I have friends who watched it but never went online. The husband in particular is a huge Sci Fi fan and they used to eat popcorn and have "SciFi friday" back in the day, She would email me and ask questions in S4-5 about what the hell was happening and tell me how mad her husband was. So, if that was a typical reaction, I'm thinking the casual fans weren't happy for the most part.

And considering it's the casual fans that TV shows traditionally rely upon as the bulk of their audience (as supposedly only a small portion are die-hard fans), upsetting the status quo... wasn't such a smart move on TPTW's part.

I've been a fan of Tolkien since high school, when along with my nerdy friends read the books and wrote "Frodo lives" on our notebooks to annoy and confuse the jocks. We've waited lo these many years for a good movie treatment, and now we are in fantasy nerd heaven. We never thought we'd have to wait until we qualified for the senior discount.

Well, that was when Elizabeth was still on SGA, so it makes sense they'd mention her to generate interest in watching "that other show."

I like all 3 SG series for a different reasons as you can tell by my sig I like alot of scifi/fantasy serious drama & the lighter ones so that's why I watched all three to each their own but I understand why SGU wasn't as popular as the other SG in the SG fandom it was very different than both SG-1 and SGA. Seasons 4 & 5 of SGA were difficult for me with Elizabeth not being leader it was not the show I loved seasons 2 & 3 were my favorites for SGA. I liked season 1 but not as much it was sometimes hit or miss for me whenever I watch the DVDs. The only reason I watched in the last 2 seasons was for Teyla, Ronon, Sheppard, McKay & Zelenka the passion was not there as much for me it was more habit and to see how it ended.

The original ending was a little more open-ended but, once were unable to secure Torri for a return appearance, it was decided to rewrite the script and offer closure to that particular storyline. I often like to think that, if things had turned out differently – IF the show had been picked up for a sixth season and IF Torri had been amenable to a return appearance – we could have found a way to re-introduce the real Weir to the Stargate universe. In my mind, Oberoth’s claim to have killed the real Elizabeth was an obvious lie. Why dispose of such a valuable asset, someone with such intimate knowledge of Atlantis and the Stargate program? It’s more probable that Oberoth kept Elizabeth in stasis at a secret location – only to perish with that knowledge.

Somewhere out there in the Pegasus Galaxy, Elizabeth Weir is waiting to be rescued!

If the MGM ever unburies the Gate & they decided to make SG movies maybe we would get a SGA movie that does that I know that the odds are staked against it but one can hope
