Have been skimming the thread today and found the discussion about Ghost in the machine interesting, so here it is my input about it. (Will probably add more things later, but for a start...)

In a sad way i loved this episode. I think Michelle Morgan did a great job as Elizabeth, I was able to see Elizabeth in her, but of course i would have preferred to see Torri there, but i didn't mind Michelle Morgan much because i think she was able to convey us all the feelings and all that was going on with Elizabeth there when she was facing the mistrust of her (former) friends. It was really one of those episodes in which one can't avoid but cry, since it was so full of different emotions.

The ending scene left me speechless and with tears in my eyes the first time i watched it, and still does every time i (re)watch this episode.

It makes me cry, weep, bawl like a baby every single time I see it. And I am not one who does that often.

Not really. The Prodigal Son got welcomed back with a big party. All they had in common was the resentful brother.

David was the younger brother, according to Mallozzi. And David's comments in the episode about John being the one who was "expected" to take over the family business and all that (as is typical for an eldest son) would certainly seem to support that.

Question, how would the family react if they found out that John had kids? You know like in the situation of TWGO?

I didn't remember seeing this until I watched the video. And that little part even goes to show how much Sparky was still in tune with each other even though they hadn't seen each other in well over a year. Because John stepped forward, and Franibeth turned around, and they were only looking at each other. Something short circuited in the city at that moment.

How can anyone deny the sparks after that scene? No, seriously. Elizabeth tried to give John a look of reassurance, silently saying, "Everything will be all right in time." Knowing John, it will take a long time for him to heal. I really don't think that I had ever seen John look so devastated.

My point exactly. And one of the reasons I admire and respect JoeF so much has a lot to do with that look. It makes me wonder if it was scripted or improvised...

A question for the ages, my dear. I doubt they told him to make the woobie face in that scene. And I also liked the way he looked so uncertain about it all, from the look he exchanged with Ronon and how he bit his lip like he was barely keeping control of himself as they were walking out to the gate to that final look with "Elizabeth" all of which make it look like he was struggling with not doing something to stop it. But again, anti-Sparky shippers could say all that was because he was worried that they weren't doing the right thing and the replicators would somehow get away or come back to destroy Atlantis. Or some such.

I don't know what TWGO is, but I think John's family would welcome any children of his. His brother had some valid points and if you watch Outcast, you will learn that some of the problem with John's dad was just a huge misunderstanding. By the end it looks like John might have mended things with Dave.

TWGO is my Sparky fanfic story "The World Goes On". What was the huge misunderstanding?

I don't know if I would call it a misunderstanding. I think it's really best if you see the episode and form your own impressions about it; in my opinion nobody here would be exactly able to retell all the emotional implications from the episode. Several important things happen, you get to see people who were or, one might argue,still are important in John's life. As in, if you don't let go of your past it's still governing you.

Really, it's best if you watch it.
