INT. ATLANTIS CONTROL ROOM – DAY

PANNING OVER we see DR. RODNEY MCKAY diligently working at a LAPTOP on the upper tier of the Control Room. His movements are quick and dedicated, but have the bridled giddiness of a man on the verge of a breakthrough. Other personnel filter about the room, concerned with their own projects. TEYLA EMMAGAN observes McKay from below, but does not interfere with his work. Zelenka enters with Weir and Sheppard, escorting them to the upper control deck near the ANCIENT DISPLAY SCREEN.

    WEIR
    (politely.)
    Rodney, what’s all this about?

McKay eagerly works at the controls. His tone is characteristically self appreciative.

    MCKAY
Oh, you know. Another day, another mystery of the Ancients unraveled by the one and only Dr. Rodney McKay.

Teyla turns to greet Weir and Sheppard.

    TEYLA
Dr. Weir, Col. Sheppard. It is good to see you.

    SHEPPARD
    (nods.)
    Teyla.

Sheppard turns to McKay with faint curiosity.

    SHEPPARD (CONT’D)
McKay. You seem chipper this morning.

    MCKAY
    (typing quickly.)
Chipper doesn’t even begin to cover it, Colonel.

ANGLE to include Weir and Sheppard.

    SHEPPARD
    (aside; to Weir.)
    That’s a good thing, right?

    WEIR
    (to Sheppard.)
    I hope so.
    (to All.)
Would someone mind telling me what’s going on?

Eager to explain, Zelenka steps forward.

    ZELENKA
You remember after you return from Earth, we find whole new wealth of information in Ancient Database?

    WEIR
Yes, of course. Installing the ZPM boosted the functionality of systems all over the city.

Zelenka nudges his glasses up the bridge of his nose.

    ZELENKA
Yes. We find much research the Ancients left behind. In particular, we find files concerning Ancient scientist in charge of defensive technologies research.

Sheppard straightens, crossing his arms casually.

    SHEPPARD
    Well, I like him already.

McKay looks up from his work for a moment, speaking excitedly.

    MCKAY
This guy was involved in everything - shield tech, energy beams, drone development... He even kept a journal on all the facets of his research.

    WEIR
Sounds like he could be a lot of help to us in understanding Ancient technology.

    MCKAY
Yes, were it not for the unfortunate fact that every tidbit of this guy’s data has been almost entirely deleted.

    WEIR
    Deleted?

    MCKAY
A defense protocol. I think he intended to destroy all of his research upon the evacuation of Atlantis to prevent it from falling into Wraith hands.

McKay returns his attention to the laptop, concentrating on the screens before him while still conversing with the others.

    MCKAY (CONT’D)
Actually, he did a rather remarkable job of it, considering the redundancy of the Ancient Database. However, he didn’t bank on the old “McKay Charm.”

McKay glances up with a self-appreciative smile. Weir and Sheppard share a look.

    MCKAY (CONT’D)
So far we’ve been able to recover a portion of the files, but the decryption process has been holding us up. Most of what we’ve come up with have been short log files – council minutes and such. I’m working on the program right now, but even with the most capable man in the universe working on it, I don’t see us salvaging this file anytime soon.

    Zelenka steps forward in agreement.

    ZELENKA
I’ve never seen files so heavily encrypted. Ancient data must have been vitally important.

    WEIR
Okay, if you feel it’s worth checking into, I’ll assign some more staff. Maybe with a few more hands-

McKay holds up a finger to interject.

    MCKAY
    I’ve got a better idea.

Sheppard sighs and uncrosses his arms.

    SHEPPARD
    Uh-oh.

    MCKAY
    (defensively.)
    uh-oh? What uh-oh?

    SHEPPARD
Whenever you say you’ve got a “better idea”, I usually end up shooting something.

    MCKAY
    Oh, don’t be so dramatic!

    WEIR
    (calmly.)
    Gentlemen.

Weir shoots them both a commanding look. The two settle down hesitantly. Weir’s expression softens and she returns her full attention to McKay.

    WEIR (CONT’D)
    Rodney, please continue.

McKay nods, tapping a few keys on his laptop. A map of the galaxy appears on the Ancient Display Screen before them.

    MCKAY
From what we’ve deciphered, we know he was working on a project called “Echelon” just before the Ancients left the Pegasus Galaxy.

He points out a dim spot near the edge of the galaxy – far, far away from Atlantis.

    MCKAY (CONT’D)
Now the details concerning the project are sketchy at best, but considering this guy was the head of R&D during the siege of Atlantis, I’m willing to go out on a limb here and say it’s got something to do with a new and inventive way to blow the Wraith out of the sky.

Sheppard perks up noticeably. Weir glances at him for a moment before returning to McKay.

    WEIR (CONT'D)
Alright, Doctor, consider me intrigued. What do you propose?

    MCKAY
In one of his log entries, this guy makes reference to an off-world research station he established – presumably where he did the bulk of his experimentation without fear of, oh, blowing Atlantis out of the water.

    WEIR
    (cautiously.)
And you’re hoping he left something behind?

    ZELENKA
You said so yourself, Dr. Weir, his research could prove invaluable in further understanding Ancient technology.

    Weir nods, considering.

    ZELENKA (CONT’D)
Most likely this site was either abandoned or destroyed ages ago, but if something is there...

    SHEPPARD
    (decisively.)
My team can be ready to go in fifteen minutes.

Weir gives him a disciplined glare.

    WEIR
    John!

    SHEPPARD
    (unfazed.)
    Elizabeth.

Sheppard moves toward the screen to examine the map.

    SHEPPARD (CONT’D)
This is what we’ve been looking for since we got back – something the Wraith haven’t seen yet. Like Zelenka said, if something is there, we gotta check this out.

    WEIR
Now hold on, we don’t even know anything about this place yet.

    Sheppard looks back to Weir.

    SHEPPARD
    So we send a MALP.
    McKay again interjects.

    MCKAY
Um, actually we think the gate is in orbit over the planet.

Sheppard levels a silencing glare at McKay. McKay shrinks.

    MCKAY (CONT’D)
    I’m... Just saying...

The concerned look on Weir’s face does not waver.

    SHEPPARD
Look. If we don’t find anything, McKay gets to go back to his lab and babble incoherently until he unscrambles this stuff.

    MCKAY
    Funny.

    WEIR
And if the Wraith show up?

    SHEPPARD
That’s what the cloak is for.

McKay again lifts his finger, as if to answer a question no one posed.

    MCKAY
Need I mention that an Ancient outpost usually comes with an Ancient power source...? I.E. a ZedPM?

    SHEPPARD
    (prodding.)
    ...Elizabeth.

Weir considers her options carefully. Zelenka and McKay share a look of anticipation.

    WEIR
    (sighs.)
    Fine. You have a go...

Sheppard brightens considerably, giving McKay a beaming smile.

    WEIR (CONT’D)
    (sternly.)
...But this mission is strictly recon.

    SHEPPARD
    (with a soft sarcasm.)
    Yes, ma’am!

    WEIR
I mean it, John. You smell even a hint of Wraith, you get your ass back here!

    SHEPPARD
Why, Doctor, “caution” is my middle name.

A subtle cloud of confusion passes over Teyla’s face.

    TEYLA
    (inquisitively.)
I thought your second name was-

    Sheppard cuts her off intentionally.

    SHEPPARD
    Teyla. Gear up.

Sheppard turns on his heels and heads for the corridor to the private quarters. He calls to McKay over his shoulder.

    SHEPPARD (CONT'D)
You’re in on this one too, McKay.

McKay’s features slip into a frightened expression. Clearing his throat, he steels himself and, with a nervous glance to Weir and Teyla, heads after Sheppard. Weir sighs wearily as her eyes follow the two out the door.

ANGLE on Weir and Teyla. Teyla notes Weir’s concern.

    TEYLA
Do you not wish us to go on this mission, Dr. Weir?

    WEIR
No, it’s not that, Teyla. It’s just... Sometimes arguing with Col. Sheppard is like... Trying to glare down a wet puppy.

Teyla gives her a confused look. Beat.

    WEIR (CONT'D)
    Never mind. Go, get ready.

EASE OUT as Teyla walks off and Weir returns to her office as we...

    FADE OUT.

    END OF ACT ONE

That was great! I agree with SR; you have our attention!

I especially loved Sheppard's line of
Whenever you say you’ve got a “better idea”, I usually end up shooting something.
    Awesomesauce.

AND JT IS BACK!!! *huggles* Nice to see you, sweetie! Bet you're excited about the con! Wish I could go!

Today was a long and exhausting day. As I need to do some work around the house tomorrow, I'll be on here. I have a sig that's lurking that needs to be completed. Just gotta wrestle with that particular fandom bunny ...

    Night!

I was just chatting with someone on tumblr yesterday about the bad choices TPTW made, but she hasn't started S3 yet so I had to bite my tongue. How can people avoid spoilers? I'm impressed by anyone who can do that.

Anyway, hopefully I won't be gone for such long absences again. I miss you guys!

Oh yeah, and 1 month until I get to meet Sparky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      AND IRISH EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      *glomps you*

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

              Spoiler:

              FADE IN:

              EXT. THICK FOREST - DAY

PANNING DOWN through lush forest, we find SHEPPARD, TEYLA, and MCKAY trekking through the thick undergrowth. Sheppard takes point, followed closely by Teyla. Both keep a wary eye on their surroundings. McKay scrambles after, haphazardly slapping at an unseen horde of bugs. Sheppard and Teyla, however, seem unaffected by the onslaught and continue at a comfortable pace, carrying a light conversation.

              (unsure.)
I do not understand, Colonel Sheppard. If this chamber held the rays of this red sun, would he not have been affected as he was before?

              SHEPPARD
No. See, he reversed the effects of the chamber so that it would expose everyone outside the chamber to the red sun radiation while he was safe inside. Thus the rogue Kryptonians lost their strength, Superman gave them the beating of their lives, and the day was saved.

              MCKAY
              (with harsh sarcasm.)
Ah, yes. If only it were that easy to defeat all your extra-terrestrial antagonists.

              SHEPPARD
              (over his shoulder.)
McKay. Do you have something you’d like to add?

              MCKAY
I’m just saying that, given what’s at stake here, I find it uniquely interesting that you still find time to geek out over Superman.

              SHEPPARD
It was a great movie. The whole franchise just bombed after the sequel.

McKay pauses for a breath, eyeing Sheppard quizzically.

              MCKAY
Am I seriously the only one who understands the gravity of this situation?

              SHEPPARD
              (muttering.)
Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

              MCKAY
              (trudging on.)
Funny how one assumes I actually slept last night.

              SHEPPARD
C’mon, McKay. Wouldn’t you kill for a device that could sap the Wraith’s strength?

              MCKAY
              (feigned enthusiasm.)
Oh sure! We can have it shipped directly from the Fortress of Solitude. Hey! We can put it in the Gate Room – or how about in the jumper bay next to the Batmobile? We sure have enough space since you’ve crashed half of them!

Sheppard shoots him an indignant look. McKay slaps his own neck forcefully.

              MCKAY (CONT’D)
              I hate deciduous forestry.

Teyla smiles warily and Sheppard shakes his head slowly. Removing a device from his vest, Sheppard stops for a moment and studies the screen.

              SHEPPARD
If the coordinates we took in orbit are correct, we’re less than a half mile away.

              MCKAY
              (argumentative.)
Oh? And how far is that in real distance?

Sheppard rolls his eyes and stuffs the device back into his vest. He and Teyla continue on.

              SHEPPARD
              (irritated.)
              McKay...

McKay stumbles to keep up, intent on proving his point.

              MCKAY
No, I’m serious about this, Colonel. If we’re honestly going to do this whole Federation SGC thing, I think we should agree on one simple method of measuring distance, and the Metric System is infinitely superior to the American system.

CLOSE UP on Teyla. Something off camera catches here eye, prompting her to move ahead. Sheppard is intrigued with her sudden change of pace, but McKay remains oblivious.

              SHEPPARD
              Rodney...

Teyla moves quickly through the underbrush. Her gaze suddenly turns upward and she halts. Sheppard hurries to catch up.

              MCKAY
Please, Colonel. The American system has no real practicality, no uniformity.

CLOSE UP of Sheppard as he stops at Teyla’s side. A look of curious awe dawns on his expression as he too is transfixed with something off camera.

              MCKAY (CONT’D)
It’s like a bunch of drunken men sat down one night, came up with a random set of measurements and decided it was a viable means of-

              SHEPPARD
              (forcefully.)
              Rodney!

McKay at last stumbles to Sheppard’s side, eyes widening as he catches sight of the scene before him.

              MCKAY
              (awestruck.)
              Oh my god.

              CUT TO:

EXT. ANCIENT RUINS – DAY - CONTINUING

Sheppard, McKay, and Teyla stand at the edge of a small Ancient outpost hidden among the tall trees. The outpost is about the size of a small village, and many of its outlying buildings have all but crumbled away. An Ancient shield blankets the structure.

FULL SHOT of McKay, Teyla, and Sheppard.

              MCKAY (CONT’D)
              (dumbfounded.)
              This... This is it!

              TEYLA
This shield has held after all this time?

              MCKAY
This outpost is much smaller than Atlantis. With a ZedPM powering it, this shield could probably hold out indefinitely.

Sheppard steps forward to examine the shield. Teyla remains guarded, but clearly amazed.

              SHEPPARD
              You sound disappointed.

              MCKAY
Oh, no. I’m sure it holds vast, untamed secrets of the universe within its uncomfortably small corridors.

              SHEPPARD
Can you get this shield down?

              MCKAY
Given a little time, I’m sure I can figure something out. I’ll radio the jumper and-

Sheppard touches the shield tentatively. It glows and crackles a little at his touch, then flickers into nothing.

              MCKAY
              (in disbelief.)
              How did you do that?

              SHEPPARD
              (shrugs.)
              Open sesame?

              MCKAY
              (deflated.)
              Of course.

                EXT. THICK FOREST - DAY

Both keep a wary eye on their surroundings. McKay scrambles after, haphazardly slapping at an unseen horde of bugs. Spoiler:

                  CUT TO:

                  INT. GATE ROOM - DAY

Zelenka now sits at the top tier, focused on the LAPTOP before him. He is obviously lost in thought, a look of devout concern etched on his face. Weir also stands in the Control Room, conversing with a small group of staff. Suddenly Zelenka’s eyes widen, moving wildly as he ingests the information on the screen.

                  ZELENKA
                  My god.

                  Weir turns, noticing Zelenka’s concern.

                  WEIR
                  What is it?

Zelenka returns Weir’s look as a sense of dread washes over him. Weir moves to look over his shoulder.

                  ZELENKA
I run segment of Ancient file through Rodney’s decryption program...

                  WEIR
                  And?

Zelenka taps a few keys on the laptop.

                  ZELENKA
                  And I find this.

Zelenka leans back, looking up at Weir as she focuses on the computer. Weir’s eyes dart across the screen, analyzing the information. A look of determination sets on her face.

                  WEIR
Can we contact Sheppard and his team via Subspace?

                  ZELENKA
Would be difficult, they are very far away.

                  WEIR
                  The stargate, then?

                  ZELENKA
                  (rising.)
                  That I can do.

                  WEIR
                  Do it.

Zelenka and Weir move to the Ancient DHD. The stargate lights up as Zelenka inputs a string of symbols. Weir breathes deeply, steeling himself. Zelenka grunts in frustration.

                  WEIR
                  What’s wrong?

                  ZELENKA
                  (looking up.)
The seventh symbol... It won’t lock.

                  WEIR
                  What?

Weir’s eyes turn to the gate. Zelenka again inputs the address, but upon the striking of the seventh symbol, the gate gives a defiant groan. Zelenka’s nervous energy quickly turns to a fluid fear.

                  ZELENKA
There must be an active wormhole blocking the other gate. Either that or...

                  WEIR
                  (expectantly.)
                  Or?

                  Zelenka meets Weir’s eyes.

                  ZELENKA
Or the gate on the other side has been completely destroyed.

Weir glances back to the gate.

                  WEIR
Let’s go with the first assessment. What can we do?

                  ZELENKA
I can keep trying to establish a connection, but until the other wormhole shuts down...
                  (Zelenka shrugs.)
                  We can do nothing.

                  WEIR
Alright. I need somebody to get into the Ancient Database and find out whatever they can about that scientist, that planet, and that project!

                  ZELENKA
                  Right.

Zelenka turns to the controls with renewed vigor, relaying Weir’s orders over his headset. Weir turns to the stargate with a growing air of concern.

                  CUT TO:

                  EXT. ANCIENT RUINS - DAY

Establishing. EASE IN on centermost structure.

                  CUT TO:

INT. ANCIENT CONTROL TOWER - CONTINUING

The structure is clearly of Atlantean design, lit only by the sunlight streaming in from the broken windows. Teyla and Sheppard stand watch, studying the small room carefully with guns drawn. McKay is hovering over a dusty control terminal. The room is otherwise bare, except for an odd, cylindrical object that is no more than a few feet tall. It sits in the center of the room.

                  Sheppard turns toward McKay.

                  SHEPPARD
                  Found anything yet?

                  McKay fiddles with unresponsive controls.

                  MCKAY
Not yet. It’s like the power has been completely severed.

                  SHEPPARD
                  What about the shield?

                  MCKAY
It’s being powered by a secondary source. Quaint, but delightfully inferior to a ZedPM.

                  SHEPPARD
                  What?

                  MCKAY
It doesn’t make sense. Why would the Atlanteans go to all the trouble of dismantling their technology and power source, but leave a functioning shield?

                  SHEPPARD
Maybe we’re not the first to find this place.

                  Teyla searches the ceiling.

                  TEYLA
If this outpost has been shielded for ten thousand years, why is it the buildings look this way?

                  MCKAY
Without a Zero Point Module, the means to power this shield for such a long time are sorely inadequate.

McKay straightens and studies the room.

                  MCKAY (CONT’D)
My only guess is they have it set as a kind of motion sensor – it’s programmed to initiate when it senses stargate activity, then shuts down when it senses the danger is gone. It might blunt an enemy attack, but the sporadic protection doesn’t do much to combat long term exposure to the elements.

                  SHEPPARD
Then when the shield shut down earlier?

                  MCKAY
Either impeccable timing or the shield is still set to respond to the mental commands of someone with the Ancient Gene.

Teyla cautiously inspects the object at the center of the room.

                  TEYLA
                  And this is...?

                  MCKAY
                  (casually.)
                  A bomb.

Teyla and Sheppard gawk in surprise. Beat.

                  MCKAY
Deactivated, of course. Probably part of a self-destruct.

McKay takes a step back, examining the device as if it were a flea market find.

                  MCKAY (CONT’D)
Really sloppy job for an Ancient, I must say... Well, that’s assuming an Ancient actually built it. Still, it might be worth bringing back to Atlantis... Scrap it for parts or something.

Sheppard lifts his P-90 carefully, giving the room once last glance before turning to his companions.

                  SHEPPARD
Not this trip. This, I believe, is the dictionary definition of the term “bust”.
                  (looks around nervously.)
Besides... I think it’s about time we started back.

                  TEYLA
                  Colonel? Is something wrong?
Sheppard folds his arms over his gun.

                  SHEPPARD
I don’t know. It’s just something about this place. For a secret, abandoned research facility, it doesn’t seem very secret-

Three sets of eyes snap upward as the shield outside ROARS to life.

                  CUT TO:

                  EXT. ANCIENT RUINS - CONTINUING

The shield blankets the sky over the ruins. Sheppard, Teyla, and McKay stumble out of the control tower as several WRAITH DARTS SCREAM overhead.

                  SHEPPARD
                  -or abandoned.
Sheppard’s radio CRACKLES. He pulls the radio from his vest and instinctively heads for cover. McKay and Teyla follow suit. MAJOR LORNE’s voice barks over the radio.

                  LORNE’S RADIO VOICE
                  Colonel! We’ve got incoming-

                  SHEPPARD
                  (To radio.)
We know, Major. Three of ‘em just buzzed over our heads. Where the hell did they come from?

                  CUT TO:

INT. PUDDLE JUMPER – DAY - CONTINUING

Major Lorne and two airmen inhabit the cabin. Lorne stands near the back, watching the attack unfold over the tree line. The two airmen sit in the front, carefully studying the sensor readings.

                  LORNE
Unknown, sir. We didn’t pick them up until they were right on top of us.

                  SHEPPARD’S RADIO VOICE
                  Did they make your position?

Lorne moves toward the front of the jumper.

                  LORNE
No, sir. We’ve been cloaked since we landed. But there’s too many of them for this to be a coincidence.

                  SHEPPARD’S RADIO VOICE
                  How many do you read?

CLOSE UP on Lorne as he studies the screen.

                  LORNE
                  Seventeen darts, sir... and counting.
                  CUT TO:

                  EXT. ANCIENT RUINS - CONTINUING

                  CLOSE UP on Sheppard.

                  SHEPPARD
                  Oh crap.

                  TEYLA
Colonel, are we not safe here under this shield?

                  MCKAY
                  (shakes head in dissent.)
It might cover our life signs for a while, but without a ZedPM powering that thing...
                  (points to shield.)
...It’s not going to hold out very long against a Wraith onslaught.

                  SHEPPARD
                  How long?

                  MCKAY
Given that kind of firepower? I’d say an hour, tops.

                  SHEPPARD
                  (thinking quickly.)
                  Alright.
                  (beat; to radio.)
Lorne, we’re going to make for the jumper. Stay cloaked and do not engage the enemy. ETA is fifteen minutes. Got that?

                  LORNE’S RADIO VOICE
                  Yes, sir. We’ll be waiting.

                  (to Teyla and McKay.)
                  Let’s go.

As the threesome heads out into the forest, we...

                      Spoiler:

                      CUT TO:

                      INT. GATE ROOM - DAY

Zelenka now sits at the top tier, focused on the LAPTOP before him. He is obviously lost in thought, a look of devout concern etched on his face. Weir also stands in the Control Room, conversing with a small group of staff. Suddenly Zelenka’s eyes widen, moving wildly as he ingests the information on the screen.

                      ZELENKA
                      My god.

                      Weir turns, noticing Zelenka’s concern.

                      WEIR
                      What is it?

Zelenka returns Weir’s look as a sense of dread washes over him. Weir moves to look over his shoulder.

                      ZELENKA
I run segment of Ancient file through Rodney’s decryption program...

                      WEIR
                      And?

Zelenka taps a few keys on the laptop.

                      ZELENKA
                      And I find this.

Zelenka leans back, looking up at Weir as she focuses on the computer. Weir’s eyes dart across the screen, analyzing the information. A look of determination sets on her face.

                      WEIR
Can we contact Sheppard and his team via Subspace?

                      ZELENKA
Would be difficult, they are very far away.

                      WEIR
                      The stargate, then?

                      ZELENKA
                      (rising.)
                      That I can do.

                      WEIR
                      Do it.

Zelenka and Weir move to the Ancient DHD. The stargate lights up as Zelenka inputs a string of symbols. Weir breathes deeply, steeling himself. Zelenka grunts in frustration.

                      WEIR
                      What’s wrong?

                      ZELENKA
                      (looking up.)
The seventh symbol... It won’t lock.

                      WEIR
                      What?

Weir’s eyes turn to the gate. Zelenka again inputs the address, but upon the striking of the seventh symbol, the gate gives a defiant groan. Zelenka’s nervous energy quickly turns to a fluid fear.

                      ZELENKA
There must be an active wormhole blocking the other gate. Either that or...

                      WEIR
                      (expectantly.)
                      Or?

                      Zelenka meets Weir’s eyes.

                      ZELENKA
Or the gate on the other side has been completely destroyed.

Weir glances back to the gate.

                      WEIR
Let’s go with the first assessment. What can we do?

                      ZELENKA
I can keep trying to establish a connection, but until the other wormhole shuts down...
                      (Zelenka shrugs.)
                      We can do nothing.

                      WEIR
Alright. I need somebody to get into the Ancient Database and find out whatever they can about that scientist, that planet, and that project!

                      ZELENKA
                      Right.

Zelenka turns to the controls with renewed vigor, relaying Weir’s orders over his headset. Weir turns to the stargate with a growing air of concern.

                      CUT TO:

                      EXT. ANCIENT RUINS - DAY

Establishing. EASE IN on centermost structure.

                      CUT TO:

INT. ANCIENT CONTROL TOWER - CONTINUING

The structure is clearly of Atlantean design, lit only by the sunlight streaming in from the broken windows. Teyla and Sheppard stand watch, studying the small room carefully with guns drawn. McKay is hovering over a dusty control terminal. The room is otherwise bare, except for an odd, cylindrical object that is no more than a few feet tall. It sits in the center of the room.

                      Sheppard turns toward McKay.

                      SHEPPARD
                      Found anything yet?

                      McKay fiddles with unresponsive controls.

                      MCKAY
Not yet. It’s like the power has been completely severed.

                      SHEPPARD
                      What about the shield?

                      MCKAY
It’s being powered by a secondary source. Quaint, but delightfully inferior to a ZedPM.

                      SHEPPARD
                      What?

                      MCKAY
It doesn’t make sense. Why would the Atlanteans go to all the trouble of dismantling their technology and power source, but leave a functioning shield?

                      SHEPPARD
Maybe we’re not the first to find this place.

                      Teyla searches the ceiling.

                      TEYLA
If this outpost has been shielded for ten thousand years, why is it the buildings look this way?

                      MCKAY
Without a Zero Point Module, the means to power this shield for such a long time are sorely inadequate.

McKay straightens and studies the room.

                      MCKAY (CONT’D)
My only guess is they have it set as a kind of motion sensor – it’s programmed to initiate when it senses stargate activity, then shuts down when it senses the danger is gone. It might blunt an enemy attack, but the sporadic protection doesn’t do much to combat long term exposure to the elements.

                      SHEPPARD
Then when the shield shut down earlier?

                      MCKAY
Either impeccable timing or the shield is still set to respond to the mental commands of someone with the Ancient Gene.

Teyla cautiously inspects the object at the center of the room.

                      TEYLA
                      And this is...?

                      MCKAY
                      (casually.)
                      A bomb.

Teyla and Sheppard gawk in surprise. Beat.

                      MCKAY

I was just chatting with someone on tumblr yesterday about the bad choices TPTW made, but she hasn't started S3 yet so I had to bite my tongue. How can people avoid spoilers? I'm impressed by anyone who can do that.

Anyway, hopefully I won't be gone for such long absences again. I miss you guys!

Oh yeah, and 1 month until I get to meet Sparky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                            AND IRISH EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There you are! Welcome back. I'm getting excited for you.

Good morning, Sparkies! Happy Fluffy Thursday and 24 hours to go until I'm on the train to Comic-Con!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.
