They're either a good 15cm or more shorter, or about the same height as me. At most, I'm of average height for a guy. It's been a while since I picked up a girl
    Transvestites aside?

    (shut up, just shut up)
    Oh, you're no fun!

in that fashion, but it's not so much the weight as the positioning. Plus, I think they would have done a number of takes of that. Torri is a twig, but eventually she'd get heavy.

The one that makes me smile is in S & R when Ronon/Jason is carrying Teyla/Rachel, and they meet up with Kanaan. Jason is leaning waaaay backwards as a counterbalance. Rachel would be no effort for someone of his size and fitness to carry, so presumably that has been filmed again, and again, and again.....
I can imagine on one of the takes, one of the extras getting in Joe's way and him being all "HEY! Carrying someone here!!"

I never noticed that about the scene in S & R, probably because (spoilering for the squeamish)
    Spoiler:

I was too busy rolling my eyes at her immaculate clothes just moments after childbirth. One without an afterbirth, as well. Did Rodney even cut the cord?

In the US, being 5'10" is tall for a woman. I've had people call me tall and I'm only 5'7" (1m70). My sister is 5'10" and she has to order clothes in special "tall" sizes.

It looked effortless because she's so tiny, but no matter how thin Torri is, her height adds weight and awkwardness with that long stretched-out body that would throw off his center of balance. Now, as Mr. SR would point out, he should have just thrown her over his shoulder in a fireman's carry, but where would the romance be in that?

Are you still available to administer that asskicking you offered when you greened me? Come on up, I have someone who needs it badly just waiting. No, it's not Mr. SR.
You're absolutely right. Try picking up a 5lb bag of sugar and then a 5lb rake. Which seems more difficult? The rake.

And it is a romantic image. Even in the commentary they say "it's just like An Officer and a Gentleman!"

    Was it a good song?

I'm not sure if there's a map out there somewhere (or layout of the city), but Shep must've carried her a reasonable distance. The director must've really wanted that shot, because presumably he either carried her down the stairs, into a transporter, then down that hallway in Adrift (although they might've only been going that way because the trolley didn't fit into the transporter), then into the infirmary, or he went through her office and took the transporter down the hall from there. Regardless, it's a long way to carry her, especially in the most awkward way possible
Yup. It would have been much more logical to call the infirmary for help. But then, love isn't about logic. (Thank you, Carl Binder!)

You're holding her the wrong way, you'll get tired and drop her

Trust me, I'm not going to drop her

You need to put her over your shoulder, like this (motions)

    McKay, do NOT touch her
What is with you and the manly shows of affection?

    What?

Ouch, Madness reigns, that does not sound pleasant at all! I hope you have better luck with the specialist! *hugs* In happier news, those new pics are gorgeous! I especially like the first one's contrast of the cool white and gray of the snowy forest with the splash of color given by John and Elizabeth. Beautiful!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

After meeting her in person I'd have to totally agree with that statement. The recoil alone would send her flying.

From my POV up here in the 5'10 areas... yup, that's short. It's about as tall as my best friend and when I call her short there's hell to pay.

*shudders* I could have it the other way though - when I went for a run this morning from the gym I went out with someone else. We rounded a corner and a girl I knew said "we must stop meeting like this". As I was running away I yelled back "stop hanging out on street corners and we will". I was joking, sort of.

            Oh, you're no fun!
            Meet the real gater

I can imagine on one of the takes, one of the extras getting in Joe's way and him being all "HEY! Carrying someone here!!"
I think on about take six I would be questioning the need for more takes, with my usual politeness

I only noticed it because I figured they must've done quite a few takes for Jason to have to lean back like that.

            Spoiler:

Her dress should have been soaked, and there should have been at least some blood. But like you say, no afterbirth either. Duh, she's alien, that explains everything!

At 1.8m, it's not uncommon for girls to be taller than I am. I wonder when "tall" sizes kick in here?

You're absolutely right. Try picking up a 5lb bag of sugar and then a 5lb rake. Which seems more difficult? The rake.
How can you tell the difference at 5lb?

And it is a romantic image. Even in the commentary they say "it's just like An Officer and a Gentleman!"
And who brought in the love interest? Ronon. Whoopsie

            Was it a good song?
It wasn't too bad. I thought about writing it down, but figured it'd end up like that Atlantis fic I dreamed up - not finished That's the one where Carter tells Shep he looks like a reject from the village people, Woolsey is headlining in Vegas, Caldwell stuns Radek by pulling out the first name card, and Teyla shoots Elizabeth.

Yup. It would have been much more logical to call the infirmary for help. But then, love isn't about logic. (Thank you, Carl Binder!)
Or meet them half way. Or at least tell them he was coming, which apparently he didn't do if Carson's reaction is anything to go by

Weeeelll, when they were filming Lord of the Rings here, they put out a call for all short people to act as hobbit extras. The cutoff height was 157cm, which was the height of my bosses wife, whom from that point onwards was referred to as Hobbit

Anyway just popped into share the other colour version of the of the Sparky Advent cover that I made - same as the other one just red and a standby cover because I couldn't decided which I prefered and so I made JT choose

I was going to include that in a fic once - she was forced to fire Lorne's P-90 (into the ground as a warning) but completely misjudged the recoil and it dislocated her shoulder. The I changed it to the tried and true - throw them into an active stargate to test whether the shield has been lowered. It's still not finished

I was another thread (not GW) the other day and read something interesting. It was all fairly dated material, and most of it was anti-Weir, and a large portion of that was specifically anti-Torri, but one comment stuck in my mind - that Shep took over most of the time.

I'm not going to argue that this never happened, but most of the time? I don't think this was true of either of them. Hot Zone is the obvious one, and maybe Rising, but this wasn't an impression I got from the show. Other times, such as TR II, or Submersion, whilst technically one could argue that she was still the 'boss', it was a more like a military situation, so her authority was no greater than any other civilian (say, Carson) would have had (input, sure, but not control). And with Fat Bastard's cousin, she was clearly compromised, so he was well within his rights to say something. And note that even then he only actually referred to something of military significance (security) rather than her authority as a whole, which argueably he should have done.

There are missions like Progeny, which was essentially diplomatic until they discovered they were replicators. I was amazed at how passive he was in the first half of the episode - he just let her take the lead. Even when they were in the waiting room discussing the arrogance of the Asurans (discussing the secret plan to be activated at "a time of our choosing") it may as well have been in her office. What really made me lol was during Shep's fake!attack scenario - he was the one who ran out onto the balcony to look at something, which is typically what she would do.

I guess I just don't see how that could be accurate. Then again, everyone gets a different impression from the show *shrugs*

Either that, or maybe they piled sandbags on top of Torri's boots to keep her from getting knocked back.

I'm in the same situation. Went for an EMG this week only for them to say "there's nothing wrong." Me: "Then why does it hurt?" Them: "I don't know."

(EMG - now that's a test designed by a sadist... let's first zap you with electricity and then put needles in your muscles and zap them again.)

We rounded a corner and a girl I knew said "we must stop meeting like this". As I was running away I yelled back "stop hanging out on street corners and we will". I was joking, sort of.
Probably not the kind of answer that's going to help you with the picking up women thing, though.

How can you tell the difference at 5lb?
                              Smart ass.

Weeeelll, when they were filming Lord of the Rings here, they put out a call for all short people to act as hobbit extras. The cutoff height was 157cm, which was the height of my bosses wife, whom from that point onwards was referred to as Hobbit
                              Nice way to kiss butt.

People who can't tell the difference between character and actress are too stupid to be taken seriously.

They mustn't have had to do that, else she'd be springing backwards and forwards, like an upside down pendulum

Madness, you have outdone yourself. Those are just stunning.
But not til you're blue in the face, right?

I sometimes wonder whether the 'less is more' style of storytelling on Stargate contributes to things like this. When we can only guess at a character's motivations by what we see on screen rather than what they actually say, then people will reach different conclusions. Especially when some of them are idiots

                                It's so frustrating, isn't it?
Now you know how John felt in DG when Keller zapped him in the guts

Sounds like it's based on acupuncture?

If she hadn't violated me with her eyes before she said it, I might've said something nicer

                                Smart ass.
I had a long-winded explanation, but it was pretty boring. But yes, I am!

                                Nice way to kiss butt.
That woman was freakishly strong, some sort of hulk/hobbit mutant
