It is definitely the way of making things as they should have been. And also fanfic can show us how things could have easily been made in order to bring the new "members" and also remain with the "members" we already knew.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

I guess they can. But i was not referring to that kind of new "members", but yes to the new "members" who actually joined the show.

To be fair to the Ellis character (which is difficult because i hate him) he was merely a plot device. If it hadn't been Ellis, it would have been something else, or some other scenario

I hate that, quite a lot!!! I can’t stand AT now because of that.
You (the general you/us) have to put a line between AT and TPTW. Anything she did on SGA (whether it involved things that she agreed with, or things that she didn't) was contractually obliged, the same as Torri and Joe. It was their decision to move her to SGA. It was their decision to get rid of Torri (instead of reducing her screentime and having both TH & AT in s4). AT was obliged to work through s4, and her absence in some eps was due to SG-1 movie commitments (as well as some Sanctuary stuff). All actors are obliged to portray the franchise favourably during interviews. Even Torri herself didn't criticise anything they did until well after it had happened.

^ true. It possibly had something to do with AT still working for the franchise (in the long term) at the time. And I would add that maybe AT just has a better agent

Ellis could have showed up with those stupid orders but act differently, it was also his presumptuous attitude that made me hate him the most. If it would have been Coronel Caldwell i am sure his attitude would have been a different one although he would have the same orders.

She could have refused, couldn’t she? I realise that it might not be entirely her fault, but never the less i can’t seem to be able to look at her the same way, i am sorry for that, but that’s how i feel.

I think I heard somewhere that they intended this to be Caldwell, but Mitch Pileggi was unavailable.

Very true. We forget sometimes that a lot that goes on in a show depends on the situation in real life. Rachel's pregnancy is an excellent example. And a lot of Downton Abbey fans are all atwitter now because of changes on that show that are completely because of actors wanting to leave. It's very hard to separate reality from drama, and most general fans don't even know about the behind the scenes stuff. Little things like billing and how many episodes someone is in can depend totally on their contract. I remember some DH fans complaining that he was after the "and" without knowing that his agent probably negotiated that and it's considered a very good thing.

Joe was the only one who started saying what he thought right away. It was a long time before DH spoke up, and he only said a few things to back Joe up. The rest waited until the whole franchise was dead and the movie was never going to be made. But we know he was a thorn in their side from way back.

They might have rewritten the part a bit if it had been Caldwell, but likely the basics would have remained the same. Ellis had his orders, and yes, he was arrogant, but it comes with the rank and training.

No, AT couldn't have refused. She had a contract that gave them the option of using her any way they wanted in that last year after SG-1 was cancelled. Then when her contract was over, she had the option of leaving and she took it.

I admit though that my attitude toward both her and Sam was changed a bit after the SGA role. I used to love Sam and I ended up barely able to tolerate her. I just wanted to FF any time she was on screen, especially when John was with her. The writers treated her the same way they did Rodney. Both characters could do no wrong and all the other characters had to talk about how great they were. At least in Rodney's case, they seemed to admit he was annoying, but everybody loved him in spite of it. I loved the way Ronon reacted to Sam. That was the way they all should have been, IMHO.

See, I thought they treated Sam like that on SG-1 also. But then, I've only seen seasons 9 and 10 and a few others. Cam was always saying how brilliant and wonderful she was, and it made me very annoyed.

Well, yeah they did. She was the original "Mary Sue" on there, but I tend to ignore SG-1. I only watched it out of the corner of my eye and never really got into it much. I remember liking how spunky and smart she was, and I copied her cute little weed-whacker hairdo, but the fine art of shipping and such escaped me.

But Caldwell had the same rank as Ellis and didn’t behave the same way. I think Caldwell would never be able to do what Ellis did, arriving in Atlantis and just start giving orders like if he was the one in charge of Atlantis. He was in charge of the military operations and of his ship, but not of Atlantis, but he acted like if he was. Just arriving and immediately ordering around, putting his people in the briefing room without asking for permission, taking Rodney away from the briefing room without notice, i think that’s not how things should have been done, no matter the orders he had. Atlantis was not a military expedition, was a civilian expedition backed up by the military, there is a slight difference IMO.

Same here. I used to love and admire Sam quite a lot on SG1, i was proud because although she was a woman she was recognized as an important member in the middle of so many men and she was a strong character. But i lost all that when she moved to SGA. Yes, i agree. Ronon was the one who reacted accordingly to the situation and all the others should have had similar reactions.
