*runs in* My iMac is here! My iMac is here! SQUEEEEE!

*hugs JT-2* I'm sorry you're still sick. That's never fun. But you're in good company on the 'being sick makes me cranky' wagon, 'cause that happens to me too.

Writer 2: Don't forget that the fans love them.
Writer 3: Oh, and the ratings will probably go up if we put them together.

    Oh, the irony.

Awwww, now that's a great warm and fuzzy feeling to have! *hugs FH, Teyla and Kanaan*

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

I thought at first that any other ship idea with the two of them was the red herring, but now I'm not so sure. We can't deny the reality of what they said they intended to do, and contrary to what some other ships may think, we're not delusional. I recognize what's on my screen, and at times it did look like they meant to ship John with Teyla. Fine, if that's what you want. Enjoy your ship. But at times it also looked like Sparky was a sure thing. So, who knows. However, it didn't work out for either of them so nobody had to watch the other ship happen.
The scene that always struck me as deliberate teasing was Misbegotten's defending your honour. Not so much due to the flirt factor, but because the only reason (apparently) it was there was to show the passage of time. They could have put any scene in, or rewritten that one when they saw how it turned out.

Personally, with all we got from John in S4-5, I can enjoy the angst and move on with no rancor. Well, except maybe toward TPTB. And look at us, after all these years, still enjoying what might have been. We saw it. We loved it. It still makes us squee. Sparky FTW!
It's open to interpretation I guess, but it seemed like John went through the wringer in the last two years. Everyone else managed to move forwards with their lives, with new families, new relationships, two bosses that got promoted to the top job over him, friends back from the dead only to leave again (both of them)....hopefully season six works out better for him. That Mayel bird seems pretty cool, what could go wrong there?

Oh, and your fic was great. *puts away red pen* You get inside John's head in a really good way. I can just see him going through that thought process.
I think if you truly went through it with the red pen you'd run out of ink I can see him thinking those things, to a point. That sort of stuff might occupy 5% of his thoughts, or maybe even less. I don't like the way that fic made him seem emo.

No, that's not cynical, it's just realistic. I think SR is right that some of TPTW were probably viewing/using Sparky as a red herring. Fortunately for all of us, real life events prevented them from going in the direction they had intended. What we ended up with, frustrating as it was, has proved to be a better result simply by virtue of being open-ended enough to give every group a little something to be happy about. If that makes sense.
What's the expression, the best designs happen by accident? I'd never thought about it like that, but I suppose they did end up by giving something to everyone.

I also liked your latest ficlet, too. You really got into John's headspace and the self-doubt and guilt that we've seen only hinted at in various episodes. Great stuff!
That's why I'm not overly fond of it. I don't think he spends a lot of time thinking about that sort of stuff, and writing the whole thing from that perspective made it seem like he did.

      Feel better soon

Agreed. I think M&M wanting to keep SG-1 alive was the number one reason, but I don't doubt this was a small reason as well. Denied.
I'm never sure what to think with those guys. Looking at some of their statements now, with the benefit of hindsight, it sounds like they came up with a few different ways of bridging the two series. Instead they went with delete Weir, insert Carter.

They also knew about the sexual chemistry of Spanky. Gero says that in the Duet commentary. Which makes me go back to the stubborn and egotistical PTB theory once again. Apparently being sick makes me cranky.
Playing DA here, it would've made more sense to have the love triangle involve Sheppard, Ronon and Teyla. It would've been possible to twist previous stuff to suit it - Ronon not making a move because he wasn't sure if they were involved, Ronon asking about Teyla in Sunday because he was trying to see if Shep had feelings for her....*evil grin*

I know we've talked about this before, but it's always baffled me that they couldn't see what great chemistry Teyla had with practically everyone (Ronon, Kate, Carson, Lorne) except for Sheppard. Maybe that's my bias creeping in, but the two of them seemed to get more awkward as time went by, not less.

That must be the ep where they're discussing who wears the pants in that relationship during the commentary. Teyla, naturally

I've read in several different post-EatG fics where people mention how everyone has found their own slice of happiness except for John.... that the pattern breaks with him. Poor John. Let me hug him.

In this country, the expression is "cook me some *?<$%^@ eggs". It's a line from an iconic kiwi movie. I imagine Kanaan wouldn't be able to walk for weeks if he said something like that

*snort* the Rodnina discussion, I'd forgotten about that.

Re the Adrift/Shep one, from a ship neutral perspective, it's valid. Even if he didn't have shippy feelings for her, it would knock him around for a while. That said, I think it's a little unrealistic that he didn't show much interest in anybody for the next two years, aside from Larrin. Surely there must've been a conversation about it at some point, even if it was just teasing.

Teyla and Kanaan were so sweet because they went through so much to be together. And maybe because TPTB didn't have time to mess it up. LOL

It was obviously deliberate and flirty flirty. Plus added to the way he defended her in the Woolsey scene just pointed out how in sync they were.

It's funny to read the posts on the episode threads from S5 and see how many agree that John was just not himself and it had something to do with Elizabeth. Well, duh.

I think if you truly went through it with the red pen you'd run out of ink I can see him thinking those things, to a point. That sort of stuff might occupy 5% of his thoughts, or maybe even less. I don't like the way that fic made him seem emo.
I think there was a lot more going on in John's head than we were shown. Joe's wonderful expressions told us that and showed us the depth of John's emotions.

I know we've talked about this before, but it's always baffled me that they couldn't see what great chemistry Teyla had with practically everyone (Ronon, Kate, Carson, Lorne) except for Sheppard. I think maybe they did realize that and not give them as many scenes together as before. If they were attempting to show us that they had hidden feelings, it certainly fell flat.

He was certainly understanding and caring with her in Broken Ties. I loved their scenes together.

Don't believe a word of it. If you don't at least have some rudimentary knowledge of what's going on, you will be scratching your head the whole time. I'd say, at this point, just enjoy Joe and if you like the set up, go back and start with the pilot and watch straight through. Walter is one of the best characters ever devised, and his relationship (not shippy) with Asterisk, Ostrich, Asteroid, Andromeda Astrid is just lovely.
