And now for something entirely different: The weekly SGU for Atlantis Rising recap! Tonight, we have Episode 2.16, "The Hunt."

Basically, nothing of consequence that might be a factor for AR happened tonight.
    Spoiler:
In one storyline, they opened up a new section on Destiny that contains a series of chambers with stasis pods similar to the ones we've seen on Atlantis, the Aurora, and at the Antarctica outpost, and Rush used the opportunity to play a nasty prank on Eli and Brody. In the other main storyline, an off-world party gets attacked by a very large predatory lizardish creature. Gee, sounds familiar.
So yeah, nothing much to see here.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Nah, we're not on the good or dark side. We're on the Red Side. Instead of Jedi or Sith, we're Sparkies. And we have cookies.

I thought this was the best place to do this, given that it is probably more public than my journal. I've got some computer issues at the moment. Apparently laptops don't appreciate being dropped, especially on their screen. That also applies to cellphones. Although I have found cellphones to be surprisingly water resistant (milk is a no no in case you were wondering).

I'm using my old computer at the moment - hence why it's never a good idea to throw them out - which has keyboard problems, is incredibly slow, and has a habit of shutting itself down for no reason. Later in the week I'm getting a new cable to hook the laptop to the tv so I can actually access the hard drive.

So, long story short, I will be quieter in the short term. I'm not dead, yet Or maybe I'm revelling in the new order that's been created, MWUAHAHA

LOL! Ok, I suppose I should have assumed fellow scifi fans would recognize that quote.

Wow, that really stinks! (and yes, milk + electronics = bad) I hope it all gets fixed soon.

I wonder, too. I think he mentioned at one of his con appearances that the Malibu property is 14 acres? (or something like that?) You can do a lot with that kind of space.

Ack! Set that alarm clock early!
I think I remember that too. And that much land in Malibu just boggles. I think acting is more of a hobby for him...gardening, extreme sports, a little acting on the side. LOL

                      Boo.

My head is all muddled. FH, can you give me a rundown on The Queen again, from your perspective? I feel like I need a Teyla fan's input. What do you think it brought to her character, what lasting effects did you see on her from it? And what did Todd get out of the deal? I'm shady on that, though I could go back and read the transcripts I'd like a fans POV.

Others feel free to chime in too.

And SR, now you've got me dash paranoid. I'm finding myself killing them.

Teyla was used as a plotdevice in The Queen, a convenient means to Todd's end. But beyond that it wasn't a bad episode. I kinda liked it... I think. ... On second thought apparently I didn't really...

My review at the time of airing or there about:

                                Spoiler:

So, it starts out as Todd needing a queen for his ship to go up against the big boss of the aliance, and hey we so happen to have that little girl in our ranks which as it turns out since The Gift has some of that nifty Wraith DNA which makes it virtually impossible for the other Wraith to find out she's no more different than their breakfast-lunch-dinner.

Summit comes to mind - you know that episode in SG1 where Daniel went undercover as a servant of Yu. Where he had to inject that stuff in the Goa'uld's bodies so they wouldn't recognize him.

At first Teyla was a tool to be used, which so happened to have that DNA. She doesn't come into play much later in the episode when she decides to blow that other hive to smithereens. Oh, she had those ulterior motives and count herself lucky the boys wanted to rescue the damsel in distress (which she shouldn't be in the first place).

On that note - WTF?!? Teyla's supposed to be able to kick Wraith butt. She went down after one hit. Okay... So, they just turned her into a damsel in distress to make the boys look better - in this case Todd's her hero. NOT!

I don't know how to feel about this episode. Even if it's a Teyla-episode and I should be thrilled about it, I'm not. It leaves me indifferent really.

Edit: Keller can't be the Chief Medical Officer cause she's a civilian, which makes her the Chief of Medicine instead.

                                Point B
But to answer your question, as a Teyla-fan I was disappointed in the execution of the plot. They could have gone so much deeper with it than what they did. The psychological consequences of what Teyla did to transform herself into a Wraith queen. That has to have lasting effects. I mean, just look at the end where she stares at her hand. Yet we never hear from it again... that was such an unbelievable shame.

What did Todd get out of the deal?
Todd got a Queen out of it, even though that queen is in fact Teyla. And a hive... he got that too.

What do you think it brought to her character, what lasting effects did you see on her from it?

The following takes place between.... ...doesn't take place during the episode and is pure fan speculation, in particular this fan:

I think it showed us that Teyla is willing to go to great lengths to learn as much about the Wraith as possible, as long as they can use it against them in battle. We saw how she, using the disquise of the Queen, managed to destroy those battle drones as they flew between hives and were killed in battle. Todd saw it for it was, revenge on Teyla's behalf. The other Wraith's just saw her sacrificing a great deal of drones in order to gain the upper hand.

However, she doesn't go over one night's ice in making the decision to transform into a Queen. She weighs the pro's and con's. And once transformed she isn't afraid to tell Todd his place in the ranks. And it does require some pushing coercing from her team mates to actually go through with it. It's for the team, for the expedition, the greater good. She puts the group in front of the individual right there.

I do believe there should have been more fall-out from the transformation than the just the strange look she gives her (feeding-)hand at the end of the episode. This would have been a perfect time to dig deeper into Teyla's psyche and see what scars were left (of course, Kate would have been a great addition but they unfortunately killed her a couple episodes before The Queen - OOPS!).

I don't know if I'm making much sense, but what I do know for sure is that The Queen had a lot of potential in terms of Teyla's development as a character, and they completely and utterly missed the ball... shame, shame, shame!
