He didn't say anything here that he hasn't always said. He has repeated the argument that you can't consummate a relationship in every interview I've ever read when he was asked about ship. He frequently has used the Moonlighting example and seems to think it would have been a disaster for the show. He doesn't mention any particular pairing but from day one has always leaned toward thinking that they were going to pair John and Teyla. That's right. No need to be coy here or varnish the truth. He never said even once that he was for that idea. He just said he thought that was what they were planning and that they weren't going to be in a hurry to do it.

When the show started and they were hired that is what they were told. And they got very little guidance and according to Rachel, never talked about it. Then Sparky came along and even though it was obviously being teased, it was not planned. This was confirmed many times while the show was on the air by the cast and TPTB. But in S2-3, on several occasions things were said that confirmed it was being teased. Joe even once said he didn't know why John couldn't have both of them. They had to be vague so as not to give away spoilers and wanted to keep all the shipper fans interested. But there was never any serious attempt to pair John and Elizabeth. It was all in the onscreen chemistry between Joe and Torri. Now maybe if she had stayed with the show, TPTB would have changed their minds but JM was pretty adamant when some of us asked him about it.

However, in S4 they changed their minds about John and Teyla and it ended like it ended. I've been around here a long time and in the old days we used to get pretty frustrated by Sparky denial. I don't see any reason to pretend the truth was not the truth. We just know what we saw on screen and Sparky would have worked so well.
What I find very amusing is that the Sci-fi channel used a clip of the hug to start off the shipping question even though Elizabeth was already gone from the show . Hahaha! Oh, and most in the entertainment business seems to think that a show will get boring if the UST is ever resolved, which is why so many shows let the UST go on for years and years to the point where it's ridiculous (cough:X-Files:cough)

Regarding the bolded part - that's such a guy way to answer.

Interesting stuff. I'm definitely not a writer, but I appreciate the grammar notes. I get aggravated with fanfic sometimes with regards to that. "Complement" is not the same as "compliment". Then there's the "your/you're" and "they're/there/their" stuff. And what really cracks me up is when words were obviously fixed with spell check. I've seen quite a few "venerable" instead of "vulnerable" and "defiantly" instead of "definitely". People at work call me the Grammar Nazi, with my red pen of doom.

: *writing* John litterally felt his stomach do strange flips when Elizabeth kissed him. Though they kissed many times before every kiss felt they kissed for the first time. But maybe that was what love truly was in the first place, it would always be exciting never boring......

    That was freaking hilarious!!

So let's look at this logically. There were only four characters who qualify as "leading females" on SGA: Weir, Teyla, Keller and Carter. Of them, Teyla and Keller were never Sheppard's "boss," so that takes both of them out of the running. And it couldn't be Carter, because, well, you don't want to piss off the O'Neill/Carter shippers. Which leaves us with Weir. He's a clever one, our Joe.
And I love that quote especially because it was given after the show had ended so he no longer had any agendas to push. Hmm... let's take the anti stance to this. He meant Woolsey should be given a sex change operation! That's it!

I started my ep tag for "Irresistible" this week. Sigh. So far, this is not one that is going to just flow right out of my fingertips into the keyboard. I'm still glad I accepted the challenge, cuz it's certainly proving to be exactly that! Oh well, it's a growth opportunity, right?
You will do a great job, I can't wait to read it. I'm curious to see if you used one of the prompts here- (I've got the jealous John one stuck in my head).

You are my hero! Between these articles(and the help of a beta), I may not wince when I read my own fics later and still find mistakes (even though I reviewed it dozens of times). Plus, fanfiction readers may cease wanting to lynch me, that's always good.

Hmm, you could be on to something here... Joe did make a little crack during the SGA panel at Comic-Con 2008 about Robert Picardo being his 'new leading lady.'

I like the Asuran Replicators. I know, I know, they were totally a retread of the Replicators from SG-1, and in retrospect, the timing of every key point in their storyline makes it look very suspiciously like the whole thing was devised just to get rid of Weir (even though we all know that in the original plan for SGA (which assumed that SG-1 would be ending after Season 7), Atlantis was to have been located in the Milky Way all along and the Replicators were supposed to be the big bad guys instead of the Wraith), but... they were cool and scary in a way that I never felt from the SG-1 Replicators or even the Wraith. And especially not the Goa'uld, whose tacky fashion sense and over-the-top shenanigans I could never take seriously. Plus, Oberoth was one creepy SOB. So, long live Asuras! AHAHAHAHAH!!!!

Okay, fine. "Misbegotten" - "John Sheppard, are you defending my honor?" It was an instant classic.

That's an easy one. "Irresistible" - McKay's "Fly, Lucius, fly." Followed closely by Lucius telling Sheppard that Elizabeth was "out making me something to eat." *gags*

I went to a con, many years ago, for some show(I'll have to ask which one now), but it was just a few producers that happened to live in England and no actors, which had me bummed..
There are no exclusive Stargate conventions in Europe that I know off (I'm Belgian). There's Wolf Events in the UK who regurlarly organize weekend conventions where Stargate actors appear (though leads are very rare if at all ever attending). There are events in The Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium where Stargate actors (again, leads are rare - I know of JF and DH last year) can appear as guests.

You've got Starfury Events which is also in the UK but they don't have Stargate themed conventions either. You can find actors who appeared in Stargate but that's it, since they focus more on BSG, Firefly, Angel, Buffy, Glee, The L Word, Sanctuary, Dollhouse, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, ... and more of that.

I've done a few Starfury events, mainly Firefly. And I've had the pleasure to run into some SG actors at a local convention in Belgium (Don S. Davis, Corin Nemec, Robert Picardo, Morena Baccarin, Cliff Simon, Jewel Staite & Paul McGillion).

I've always wondered if that was in the script, or if it was the director's idea, or if Joe wasn't even aware he did it.
That's called a beat - and that's usually scripted, unless the actors are given a certain leeway to adlib but I doubt a lot of adlibbing was allowed on Stargate. The peeps on Warehouse 13, I recently learned, have a lot of adlibbing leeway but they do have to follow the director's and the script's way at least once.

I think the Asuran replicators are interesting as well. It always seems to be fascinating and relevant when we encounter a - (is species the right word?)- an inhuman force exhibiting human desires. Some of these desires were good (the few who were fascinated by ascension) but most Asurans, as we saw, were consumed by the most basic elements found in human nature- the destructive desires of revenge. In this age where technology is advancing so rapidly, it is easy to tap into that primal fear of change and the unknown (BSG anyone?). The added bonus is that the PTW used them for Elizabeth's departure which in effect, clouded her death with overwhelming doubt, after all, should anyone ever take a clone's word as proof of her demise? I think not.

And SK, I'm trying so hard not to laugh at the thought of Elizabeth making something to eat. It appeared as though she cooked in Intruder, but besides that...I'd have to guess coffee was her specialty. Now that would be a funny missing scene- Lucius trying to seem appreciative of her efforts as she serves him scorched food. (Of course the Elizabeth fan in me believes she could effortlessly cook a 5 star meal if she so desired.). I just hope SMB_Books isn't hiding under her bed after seeing that!

JT-2, you sound like you would make an excellent beta. I will need a Grammar Nazi soon if you're game....I happen to like the color red.

Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement.

So far I have frustrated/pissed John and frustrated/pissed Elizabeth. They haven't run into each other yet, but they will. I'm going to try to work in some of the suggestions I got here in the fantabulous Sparky thread, but I'm not certain how it's all going plot out yet......

I'm a very anal-retentive list-maker kind of person in RL. So, as an exercise in creativity and "going with the flow", I'm deliberately not trying to plot this story out and come up with an outline. A) It's not going to be long enough to require an outline, lol. and B) I'm trying to grow the other half of my brain!

The muse has teased me with snippets so far, but hasn't really shown up in full force yet. I expect I shall have to tempt the muse with something exceedingly yummy to receive any fic presents in return.

*Just realized I used A) and B) in a flipping post. I have a LONG way to go on the "going with the flow" project.*

As I'm not a huge SG-1 watcher (I've really only seen the last 2 seasons), I didn't know that they were a retread, so I enjoyed them. And yes, Oberoth was VERY creepy!

Didn't he call him his "hot new leading lady"? LOL

I'm sure your muse will take good care of you- and them!
Torri seemed to think they had taken advantage of all those closets. Hee.

One of the great disappointments (to me) about the Asuran Replicator storyline was that it could have gone in an epic, BSG-style direction, exploring the questions of non-organic sentience and whether the Asurans could be considered "alive" despite being made of tiny machines instead of flesh and blood like humans. There was so much potential for thought-provoking issues to deal with in the storyline, and it was thrown away.

Indeed. Was what Repli!Keller told Clone!Weir in "This Mortal Coil" about Oberoth killing the original Weir months earlier the truth? Was FRANibeth's claim that she was the original Weir in "Ghost in the Machine" the truth? In both cases, no evidence was ever offered that would have allowed Team Atlantis to independently prove or disprove those claims. Without irrefutable proof, we can't be sure she's dead, and anyone who actually takes either claim at its word without question is, well... To quote a rather famous saying, "There's a sucker born every minute."

Bwahahaha! I have to wonder if Elizabeth even did cook in "The Intruder." Earlier in the episode, we saw Simon cooking. Maybe Elizabeth ordered one of those gourmet take-outs?

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

One of the sites mostly visited by adults was destroyed when the creator/exec producer started posting messages. The show isn't very good anymore and I lost interest. That article has a good summary of it, although things have gone downhill since then. It's night now, the rain is falling, and the death toll has gone up as more bodies have been found.

I'm fine, as I live outside the quake area. Although I would have been right in the worst affected area today if the weather hadn't cleared (I was called back to work).

Australia has sent S & R people over to help, while the US has reassigned the AF staff already here (as part of the Antarctic programme) and allowed us the use of their planes.

It's no Haiti, but this is shaping up to be NZ's worst disaster to date. Water is gone (this is a problem for the firefighters), and what is there is bubbling up through the streets, power is out, they've had to shut off the gas....
So glad to see you here and that you're okay!

At least, this was the case a number of years ago, and I don't know if they've changed their minds since then. Like I said earlier, it depends on the franchise and who is running it.
