I have a problem with that because animals can't be equaled to people. IMO. I wouldn't allow anyone calling me an animal, or comparing me to one, and that's why I have a big problem with "we're not much better than animals" argument. It sets me off. An animal could never do my job, or your job. Also, wars, diseases and famine are a much bigger problem than meat industry. IMO of course. Then again, in a place like Atlantis it's much easier to feed people with meat, and keep them fed, especially if they're military and go through vigorous exercise and physical strain. Human body can get needed proteins faster and easier from meat than any sort of vegetable. I tried it, and I know the difference. We're omnivorous.

And here comes the discussion
I would agree with the fact that we need meat if the meatindustry wasn't as frakked up as it as at the moment.
Do you know that if the meat industry (and animals it houses) lessened with barely 10% we could solve a lot of the famine in the world because the amount of grain and soy becoming available would be enormous. And those are things that can be exported to 3rd world countries and kept in storage for a very long time. Meat... not so much.
And diseases? Mad cow disease, the pig disease that raged through Europe and the chicken disease that was raging through Europe less then a couple of months ago and killed people... They are a direct result of the meat industry and of the way it treats its animals.
Also, vegan and vegetarian not being natural because we are omnivores? I've been a vegetarian for over 5 years and a vegan for over two. I've never felt so good in my entire life! A friend of mine has been a vegan since he was 18 and he's 45 now. He's healthy, barely ever sick and has energy that would make anyone jealous. I have tons of friends who are vegan or vegetarian and even raise their kids in that way. They are all healthy, barely any of them suffer from heart disease and they all have an abundance of energy. Also, heart disease runs in my family and I have a big chance on getting a heart attack. My doctor told me that if I keep up not eating meat, I'm lessening my chance of getting that heart attack by almost 80%!!!
On the subject that we're better than animals... What makes us better than them? The fact that we're destroying our planet? The fact that we barely blink when on the other side of the world tens of thousands of people die because of a natural disaster? The fact that a lot of people can kill others for fun? The fact that we start wars that kill millions because we think our god is the better one? The fact that there are people that rape babies and children? I'm sorry, but we're no better than animals. We are animals... some are just a little less animal-like than others.
And again, this is just my humble opinion.

He is wearing the white band but it's more of a grey now. LOL He's been wearing that for awhile now.

Wasn't that band something his kids made for him? Or am I thinking of something else? Could be something else, I also remember a necklace from a couple of years ago...

He was remarkably sweet to do that as he wasn't personalizing at all. But he was sweet with all the kids all day. I saw him with a young handicapped man in the photo session and he was equally good with him. Very personal and making sure to bend over and speak directly to him. Just lovely lovely manners all around with everyone I saw him talk to.

*sighs and melts* He is just the sweetest man.

I wanted to pinch David's cheeks. It was all I could do not to ask him if I could. He probably would have let me. LOL

And thanks to both of you but gorgeous and/or cute I left behind years ago. Though I must say we were pleasantly surprised not to be the oldest people there. There were a good number of over 50's. Mr. SR was surprised that it was mostly women. I managed not to say "well, duh".

I forgot to mention before, but thank you so much for sharing the pics, they're fantastic! And yes, you really really need to go to another con. Once you've been bitten by the bug, you just can't stop!

Well, we still have our Livejournal which everyone is a part of and which is essentially our building block place, so I'd say if we're going to do something like that, let's do it there. I don't want to forget about it and it has much more information than the website, which I think of as more for the fans learning about the series.

I'm not sure about post and reposting. Writing is such a fickle thing, segments may change before your mind's made up and you may go in a completely different direction after sleeping on your plotline for a night. I'd hate for someone to mention in their story I did 'this' with Teyla only to find out later I cut the scene because I was displeased with it. So rather than get into a whirlwind of confusion, I say we just let people contact each other, here via PM or on LJ, and ask general questions if they have them.

Once we've got the roughs down pat and submitted for the first round of beta-ing, then perhaps we can put up what significant things happened to the characters? That would make everything more solid and a little more sure.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying we should get rid off or forget about the LJ. But I thought more people than just the authors/crew had access to it?
And the parts that are pre-posted, really should only be parts that are a total certainty that they'd be part of the final story. Of course after the beta and continuity check, things could always still change.

That all sounds like a good idea to me. I think of the LJ as our giant board of sticky notes for the writers' reference, whereas the website is really the public face of the project for the audience to see.

I'm very much in favor of this; I know that I'll need such updates for Elizabeth's fluctuating status between Quietus and What Dreams May Come, so this will be very helpful.

Well, I know if I want to do sports liek I do, I need proteins and it's fast to have it with animals. Sad to say it but it's true.

The LJ settings can always be changed to make the entries accessible only to those accepted into the f-list/filters. I think the entries that have already been made may have to be edited manually, but it's very easy to do.

The community is partly restricted--you have to be approved to add comments--and we've asked people not add entries, so I think we'll be all right as far as those who are watching it. There are only a few members beyond us, and most of them are people who have popped in here before. I don't think anyone will disturb the LJ status unless it's one of us.

The problem with being vegetarian and especially vegan is that you really need to keep an eye on your food. You need to make sure you get all your vitamins and your proteins and calcium and all the other stuff. And a lot of people don't want to put that much effort or time in their food, so they get sick when they stop eating meat because they don't keep an eye on what they eat.
When you stop eating meat, you have to forget about the basic meat/potato/vegetable combo and do other things and a lot of people have problems with that. It's also a shame that those people appear in the news and give 'being veggie/vegan' a bad name.

If you think eating meat is shocking and horrible, go to youtube and type Srebrenica. Thumbs up if you can sit through entire footage, especially if it includes shooting real guns. My point is that being riled up about animal rights while there is cruelty committed against people, to me, doesn't make sense, because to me human rights come first. as the matter of fact, i think both Elizabeth and John would agree on that point.
