I'm behind on posting Missing Moments, so there will be two parts today.
My weekend was insane!!! Glad to be home now and glad I can catch up on my favorite thread.

Thank you everyone for the very positive comments on Missing Moments. It's a lot of work, so that means a lot to me.

And quite wonderful additions those two new parts are!

I especially got a kick out of the first one... gotta love the mint jar!

And the second one... Eeeee, cuddly and sleepy Sparky! Darnit, you know exactly what I like! Squee!

On Evil!Weir: At Shore Leave, Torri said that she would have loved to play Evil!Weir and that she even talked to tptb about it, but that they never went for it.

*snorts* How very short-sighted of them. But then, none of us are surprised by that, are we?

Hey guys speaking of fan fic, I don't really read a great deal but there was one that I made a point of checking out. I think it was by Scary Kitty. I'm not positive what the name was again. I know I mentioned a while back I'd have a look at it, but I can't find my post that far back. I want to say it started with "S". I read the first part. It was set after Season 5 and seemed to centre around everybody telling Sheppard to go get Replicator Weir back. And Kate was in it too. I linked it to my desktop back home but I somehow lost it.

Hmm, I suppose that could be mine... It's titled Restoration (so no starting with an 'S'), and there's much more going on than just Sheppard getting Weir back:

Kate is back, but there's also a visit from Sheppard's ex-wife Nancy, the return of Ford, some wild adventures with alien races... lots of stuff.

I'm plotting to do a 'director's cut' of the fic by the end of the year... we'll see how that goes.

It was a few days after Elizabeth had scattered the ashes of her other self over the city and the sea that John came to her office after hours.

“Elizabeth, you’re working overtime again. You don’t get paid for it, you know that right?”

He slouched down in the chair opposite her and threw her a lopsided grin. She couldn’t stop the smile appearing on her face at the sight of her overly relaxed military commander.

“Yes, I’m very well aware of that.”

“Just thought I’d point it out... again.”

“Thank you for stating the obvious... again” She smiled.

“You’re welcome.” He grinned. “Hey, you got it on your desk.” His grin grew as he pointed to the Athosian pot he had given her for her birthday a few days ago.

“I told you I thought it was beautiful so it deserves a good spot.”

“Thanks.”

“Look inside.” She hinted and John was intrigued.

“What are you hiding in there, Doctor Weir?” He raised his eyebrows in a conspiring fashion and carefully lifted up the lid.

“Mints?” John asked as he eyed the small white pieces of candy.

“Sort of. It’s some sort of candy the Athosians make. Try one.”

His hand reached out for one, but then he seemed to realize something.

“Wait, didn’t you use this to keep her ashes in?”

“Yes, but I thoroughly cleaned it out before putting the candy in.”

His brow furrowed and he lowered the lid again. “I think I’m going to decline.”

“Your loss. It really is good candy.”

“I’ll ask Teyla to bring me a bag next time she goes to the mainland.”

“Elizabeth! Just the person I was looking for.” McKay nearly clapped his hands in joy as he burst into her office and interrupted the playful banter.

“Who else did you think you’d find in her office?” John asked with a sigh of annoyance.

McKay threw John an offended glare and turned back to Elizabeth. “We hit jackpot on another one of those addresses your other you gave us.”

“That's good news. You can brief the major, myself and the rest of your team in the morning.” Elizabeth smiled to her lead scientist and then turned back to her laptop to show the conversation was over. Apparently McKay didn’t get the hint.

“It’s amazing really as…”

John rolled his eyes and lifted the lid from the pot again. “Mint?”

McKay immediately shut up and eyed the candy curiously.

“Don’t mind if I do.” He finally said and reached for one, popping it in his mouth.“Hmm, not bad.”

Elizabeth bit her lip to stop herself from bursting out laughing as John grinned at her.

“Great. Now, if you don’t mind, I was going over some reports with Doctor Weir. You can brief us of your findings in the morning.”

“Yes, yes, of course.” McKay said, took another candy and walked outside.

“You are evil.” Elizabeth said as she looked back at John who had an innocent grin on his face.

“Little old me? No way.” His grin grew and they shared a laugh together.

Staring at each other, he seemed unable to pull his eyes away. Not until she finally coughed and pulled her eyes away.

“You want to get some fresh air?” He asked and pointed to the general direction of the balcony.

“Sure.”

They got up and walked outside. Even though the sun had disappeared behind the horizon more then two hours ago the temperature was still comfortably warm. It was one of the advantages of living on the equator of the planet.

John took in a deep breath and relaxed against the railing, Elizabeth by his side, their arms barely a hair apart. The darkened city below them was one of John’s favorite sights. The full moon was the only thing offering some sort of light and the reflections of the water and the city combined nearly took his breath away.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” Elizabeth asked.

“It really is.” John agreed. “So, how have you been?”

“Better.” She admitted, knowing she could be honest with him.

“I’m glad.” He said with a soft smile which she returned. “I can’t imagine what it must have been like for you.”

“It’s actually good to know that I’m brave enough that when push comes to shove I’m willing to give my life for this expedition.”

At that John turned to her and gently laid his hand on her shoulder. She turned to him, a bit surprised at his warm touch.

“I’ll never let it come that far, Elizabeth. It’s my job to protect you and I will do just that. Whatever it takes.”

“I know you will.” Her voice was barely above a whisper. The emotions that lay bare in his eyes had taken her breath away. And she didn’t lie. She knew he would give his life for hers without hesitation and not just for hers, but for every member of this expedition.

“Good.” He said just as quietly. “Never forget it.”

“I won’t.” She breathed.

He noticed how close their faces were and he needed every ounce of his will not to close the distance. But the moment was broken when Peter’s voice sounded in their earpieces at the same time, signaling the early return of SGA2.

John reluctantly let go of her and stepped away from her, clearing his throat before talking.

“Duty calls.”

“Doesn’t it always?” She asked with a half-smile and stepped back inside the city.

John sat on his bed, his head in his hands, Elizabeth’s words haunting his mind: “If they maintain direction and speed, they’ll be over our planet within two weeks.”

Two weeks… Was that all the time they had left? He knew their situation was hopeless. They had no ZPM, no way to power up the shield, no way to defend the city. They’d be lucky if they’d manage to defend the control room, let alone the entire city. Three hive ships meant hundreds of Wraith and hundreds of darts. Without the shield they could beam in anywhere in Atlantis and start fighting from the inside out. Staying here would be suicide, but he wasn’t ready to give up on the city just yet and if someone needed to stay behind so the other expedition members could escape, it would be him.

A soft knock on his door brought him out of his deep thoughts.

“Come in.”

To his pleasant surprise, Elizabeth walked in, carrying a box containing one of the chess sets that roamed around the city.

“I thought we could play a game in the silence before the storm. To try and forget for just a while.”

“Good idea.” John pulled the covers on his bed straight and sat down on the side of his pillow. Elizabeth sat down on the other end of his bed and put the box in between them.

“Would you do the honors?” She asked him.

“Sure.” John replied while opening the box. He set up the game swiftly and as always she was playing with white and he was playing with black.

They talked about everything they could think off during the game: friends back on Earth, the first careful steps in their chosen career, school, first dates and first loves. They laughed, chatted and played chess until the early hours of the night, painstakingly trying to avoid the topic of the approaching Wraith.

It was hours later that Elizabeth decided it was time to finally get some sleep.

“I don’t think we ever took this long to finish a game.” She said as John was putting the pieces back in the box.

“That’s what happens when both players get better.” He smiled.

“Very true and we are both definitely improving.”

“It’s nice to finally have someone who can challenge me.”

“It is.” She gave him a warm smile. They really did challenge each other during chess, they were both fairly fast paced players who changed tactics often and tried to put their opponent on the wrong foot. They both knew they were far from the best players in the city, but they matched each other and that was more than enough for both of them.

John put the lid on the box and pushed it towards her.

“Thank you.” She said and took the box in her hands.

John looked at her, the dark circles under her eyes told him she’d been sleeping just as badly as him.

“Stay.”

It wasn’t a request and she heard it. Casting her eyes away from him, she let out a sigh.

“John…”

“Lizbeth…" He sat up straighter and inched closer to her. Elizabeth could feel her heartbeat starting to gain speed as he gently put his hand on hers. “We both need sleep. Stay… please.”

If he wasn’t watching her so intently, he would have missed the slight nod she gave him. Taking the box from her lap, he put it on the floor and pulled her up from the bed. He pulled the blankets to the end of the bed and sat down, pulling her with him.

“Lie down.” He said softly and she obeyed wordlessly as he took his place beside her and tugged the blankets over them. Wrapping his arms around her, he spooned her from behind, pulling her close to him.

“Sleep.” He whispered and she closed her eyes, reveling in the strength of his arms and warmth of his body.

It didn’t take either of them long to fall into a deep sleep.

Those were very nice.

And quite wonderful additions those two new parts are!

I love that one. The b/w really makes it stand out. And I love that the caption can be taken more than one way. They really did mostly think alike, didn't they? That made that final argument in FS all the more poignant.
