Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
I've been having such fun writing her! She's hung around in my head for a while (at various ages) but I'm not much of a kid-fic fan, and I don't stretch out into true fanon that much, so I've just never really put pen to paper on her. I want to do more, though, because writing some of the exchanges between her and John makes me giggle like a silly person. I don't think I've giggled this much in a while.
Hey, it's good to giggle! I like Emma because she gives us a glimpse into the silly side of John that we haven't seen much of. But the difference is that here, with Emma, he's being silly because he's happy, not because he's using humor to hide his pain. And it's good to see him truly happy. Especially when he's happy because he's wrapped around Emma's finger.
I think John has been totally pwned and he loves it. That was the most delightful thing I've read in ages. And made me feel a tiny bit better. *whines* I have a sore throat and a runny nose. I never get sick. It's not fair. My theory is that I caught it at the doctor's office last week. Go in for a check up and come home sick. Ain't life interesting?
*sends hot tea with honey* Feel better soon, boss! We need our fearless leader!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Thanks. I just had tea with honey actually.
Happy John is a delight to see. I think the closest he ever came to being happy was when they got settled in and he and Elizabeth were working so close together. He was grounded and centered and had somebody to talk to and lean on and felt he was doing something important. Look how all of that just became worthless when he lost her. *sniffs* *blows nose* *curses*

Question: I was talking music in another thread and do you think the song "Somebody" (Depeche Mode) can be a good sparky song? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4-IOvcB-I4

Ooo, feel better! Being sick is no fun.
I'm glad I could make you feel a little better! And thanks again to everyone else for the nice comments.
You know what writing Emma reminds me of? The scene at the end of TRW, where John's bouncing on his toes. That's the sense of John I get with her, of unabated joy at the mere presence of someone in your life who you are glad is there. It's a proper parallel to Elizabeth and how he was with her after they'd hammered out the relationship.
Only John owns Emma--so the awkwardness is gone. She is definitely a Daddy's girl. Loves Mommy, but totally owned by Dad.
Actually, considering those two and the stuff I can imagine them getting into (or that John lets her get into), I'd probably say 'poor Elizabeth'.

Yeah, I think he really looked and felt like he was somewhere that he truly belonged. Now, without Elizabeth there... he still belongs, but it doesn't quite fit right anymore.

Well then, I guess they need to have another kid... an oh-so-clever little boy, who can be Elizabeth's partner in crime.

I think Elizabeth might be scared off after the first one!
Honestly, I've got Emma in various stages of life, and for some reason she's always an only child. However, when I built the platform for SG: Alliances, she has companions in Torren (3 years older) and his sister Charon (2 years younger), and (this totally makes me laugh for some reason) McKay's twin kids, Meredith and Rodney, who Emma nicknames "the McMidgets" (10 years younger).

"McMidgets"?!? *dies laughing* Yep, Emma is definitely her father's daughter, all right!

*g* Maybe someday I'll get to write it. It's a concept I developed literally back in 2007 after Elizabeth's 'demise' as a way to fix the story. It's evolved with her, but still lingers in my head. Too massive an undertaking (I've referred to it as my 'mega fic that'll never get written' from time to time). But essentially...
Spoiler:
It's set 20-odd years in the future. Elizabeth was recovered (though 'how' is a mystery until further episodes). The Wraith have been eliminated--actually, 'evolved' into the Irati (yes, I did actually come up with that concept before SSS ) and the Milky Way is at peace. An Alliance, known as the IGA (InterGalactic Alliance) has been formed between the two galaxies. The center of the Alliance is a place known as Delos, where Alliance Headquarters is. Elizabeth is head of the IGA. John is still the CMO of Atlantis (and Woolsey the head), which serves as a sort of Weigh Station for Pegasus.
Peace generally exists throughout the Universe, and to show the strength of the Alliance, an expedition has been assembled from many of the races that are a part of the Alliance. They will travel to Ceres, an unexplored galaxy, for the same reasons as the expedition to Atlantis. The alliance is composed of a blend of races (hence a new and different 'thing' for Stargate) including Genii, Furling, Tok'ra, Lanteans, Taurii, Travelers, Irati, etc.
In the 'Pilot' Jack O'Neill dusts off his blues to make a special trip to Atlantis to convince Sheppard and Weir to allow their 19 year old daughter, Emma, to join the expedition (because of her diplomatic skills and gift for flying). They are NOT fond of this idea, but Emma bends their will because she wants to go. Old characters tagging along include Zelenka as chief scientist (tired of being on Rodney's coattails, old as he may be), Torren Emmagan, who is smart and a charmer, but a rebel to the ways of the Athosians (too much influence by Ronon) and Jace, the cloned child of Todd the Irati-Wraith. The Expedition is led by General Mitchell.
The adventure begins when they travel to Ceres and find the gate locks behind them. As it turns out, the entire galaxy is a prison galaxy, where planets serve as the cells. The gates require a code to dial--6 non-sequential characters to go from planet to planet in a galactic 'sector', 10 non-sequential to go from sector to sector, 16 non-sequential to dial to the center of the galaxy where the government is (The Core) and 16 could-be-sequential to go back to another Galaxy. These gates are special and powered individually, and can't be overridden, manually dialed, or the code system erased or they'll be completely non-functional.
In Ceres history, the Ancients there were abandoned and trapped when Atlantis was abandoned. They didn't have the manpower to maintain watch over the entire galaxy, so they retreated to the Core, formed 'the Alliance' and remained there for 8000 years. The prisoners (of all sorts) were left to survive on their own and they eventually cobbled together ships and civilizations. After 8,000 years, of course, they're no longer 'prisoners' but they're still considered 'rabble' by the Alliance.
2,000 years ago, the Alliance decided to venture out and retake control of the galaxy as they'd built up sufficient numbers to do so. A massive intragalactic civil war has been going on between the Alliance and the Cereans for control of the galactic sectors. This is what Emma and the Ceres Expedition have gated into. And with the gates not functional, they're trapped and at the mercy of whatever ships pick them up. Of course, every so often they'll find a gate code or something, but gate travel itself is difficult.
The galaxy is so far away Atlantis can't send a ship that'll reach them for 9 months, and at the close of the pilot, Elizabeth and John, when they dial the expedition again, find a message from Emma telling them that they've been caught in a battle and had to leave the planet they started out on. As this is the only planet Atlantis knows of to dial, and the Expedition has no way right now to dial home, they are broken off from any help Atlantis or the IGA might be able to send them, and now, after being forced to leave, they've lost their only form of communication. Since Atlantis has to dial them, there's no way of knowing when and how to expect to talk to them again.
The main story is all about how the Expedition can survive from planet to planet, who they can trust, and how well they rely on each other, which is hard, when people like Torren and Jace hate each other.
And so, the adventure of SG: Alliances begins.
It felt really good to tell somebody that. It's been hanging around in my head for 2 years.

Holy smokes! That sounds like an incredibly ambitious story, and I think it's a more interesting direction to take the 'stranded far from home' idea than what SGU did. The 'Alliances' crew is cut off without any way to contact home (much like Atlantis was at first), and their dependence on ships has a reasonable in-universe explanation-- the gates aren't reliable. That's such a wicked twist!
And hey, maybe it will get written someday. My idea for 'Restoration' took up residence in my head after Lifeline and I eventually got it out... you will too!

Babies and Proposals, by tenacious_err.
Summary: John had always thought he could be the one to break through Elizabeth's resolve. Granted, he hadn't thought it would involve things like getting her pregnant, but still.
*cackles*
Happy Sparky Reading!
