Very good point...(course i still haven't seen s4, so I'm really just stirring things up a little just for the sake of stirring things up! )

Somewhere I read once that TPTW acknowledged they'd mistakenly called him "Major" in a few episodes, but that they chalked it up to real people having a problem remembering change like that, so every time someone forgets, it was because it was hard for the writers remembering a change in rank 24/7.
Um...never once in my Army career did we have a problem remembering someone's new rank when they got promoted...

And seeing as Elizabeth was the one who pushed so hard for John's promotion in the first place, I really don't think she'd be likely to "forget"

    Stoopid ptw....

Hey, everybody how are you all.

I know it´s little out of topic but I just wanted to shear this with you that I just saw James Cameron´s AVATAR in 3D yesterday. It was a special premiere but the offical date for the world premiere is on the 18th December. I´m just going to say this is not just a movie for guys, I enjoyed the whole movie and the premiere that I went to had no brake and the movie is two and a half hours. I thinks I can officially say that this is the best movie I have ever seen and it´s going to take a long time to knock this movie out of the top spot on my list .

Aww, I'm sure the cook was French and the food was excellent You sometimes see German soldiers (for example John's new friend in conversion, who gets beaten up later) and there was a German scientist in Duett, who even tried to speak German. But the accent was so bad that I had to check a transcript to figure out what she was saying. But I was pleased that they tried

Fact: John Sheppard was subdued and seemed depressed in S5.
Fact: Elizabeth Weir was lost and probably gone forever in S5.
Fact: John and Elizabeth were close when she was alive.
Conclusion: John was sad to lose Elizabeth.

Simple logic. I learned this in a class once.
How very Vulcan of you. I love it! Makes perfect sense.

I remember those school things--I think they were in maths. Like

          Fact: John Sheppard was tall
          Fact: Elizabeth Weir was tall
Conclusion: The children of John Sheppard and Elizabeth Weir would be tall.

          ;P
How can anyone argue with "ergo" and math?

: Yeah, he did. And isn't he called Colonel Sheppard?

: Yeah, that's right, Lt Colonel. Sorry, but if you'd been screaming Major Major MAJOR as often as I have, you'd have some trouble adjusting to the new rank too

when people read stuff they 'don't like' and then comment about how wrong it is. Seriously? Are you not old enough to read ratings and stuff and make the mature decisions to not read? I mean, if they get sucked into something with no warning, that's one thing, but every piece of fiction I've ever read has always come with some kind of content notice or warning.

To each his own fandom. There are ways I prefer to see a ship written, but that's my liking of a ship and has nothing to do with how someone else likes a ship. It's my personal taste and is no reflection on how someone else enjoys their fandom. It reminds me of the comments sections on articles where people lambaste a show after stating they never watch said show. I'm sorta like 'then why are you reading an article about it, moron?'
              Snark me, baby.

              Spoiler:
Someone complained about our comments to our fics? SRSLY????

I am as naughty as they come, and no, I won't make apologies for that. Not too long ago I had someone "enlighten" me how writing fanfiction is a waste of my time and my talent, and that writing smut is disgusting. I beg to differ. if you don't like it, skip it. I have a big honking warning on my LJ, so yeah, I think everyone going there is fairly warned.

The thing is, I don't think smut is disgusting. certain things are a natural part of life and it's okay to write about them. Some people dislike the romance, others dislike smut. Please, skip what you don't like and leave people whose opinions and personal tastes differ from yours alone.

You betcha. There's just no way anyone can argue against the cold hard fact of the timing of John's downward spiral.

Woolsey didn't get Elizabeth's old room (neither did Carter); the floor plans are different.

It would have been interesting to see Larrin's attitude if she'd seen how he reacted over the reappearance of Elizabeth.
*snickers* Ah, Larrin. I always figured that John's 'subdued' flirting with Larrin was a sign that he was simply going through the motions in order to manipulate Larrin to gain control of the situation he was in, and thus was also a sign that he wasn't interested in her at all. Heh.

Despite 3 years of suffering bad things (and we're talking the death of Ford, death of Carson, and all that other crap you mentioned) he's still smiling, joking and laughing up until First Strike. After the FS/A/LL opening trilogy, though he maintains the snarkish sense of humor that is John Sheppard, the more lighthearted version of John we encountered in 1-3 is gone, at least based on what I saw through Midway. Not just a coincidence that happens after the loss of Elizabeth, which is by far the largest loss he suffers. They are tied together in that respect.
I'd add that the most emotionally affected we've seen John is in those three eps (with the exception of S & R), and in relation to Elizabeth. Odd that with the 'darker arc' they couldn't keep up that level of intensity. I really wonder how it would have turned out if they hadn't written TH out, given John's vehement opposition and anger over turning the nanites back on in Adrift.

Or he was REALLY emotionally affected by the darker paint in the gateroom. Hey, it happens.
In several million years, according to the pilot ep (if it is in fact the same city that flew away from earth), all the ancients did was add 3 more engines to Atlantis, but we decided to give it a makeover after 3 years.

Woolsey DID have nicer quarters than him (if he got Elizabeth's old room), what's not to be jealous of with McKeller, and Larrin felt paying long distance charges to talk to a guy obviously suffering from a broken heart was too much, even if he was cute.

Larrin was post-Elizabeth; it was interesting seeing how John reacted to her in Travellers. From what I remembered, he did the 'flirt' thing but the whole time it was subdued, kinda like the way he was with Teer in Epiphany but with less enthusiasm.

The Travellers ep seemed to me like they'd tried to hit the reset button (back to somewhere like The Tower) but somehow they broke it in the process.

Somewhere I read once that TPTW acknowledged they'd mistakenly called him "Major" in a few episodes, but that they chalked it up to real people having a problem remembering change like that, so every time someone forgets, it was because it was hard for the writers remembering a change in rank 24/7.
Probably too they filmed them out of order. I doubt anyone would have forgotten what rank he was in the 5th ep if it was shot in sequence. Although they did get General O'Neill's rank insignia wrong in The Shroud (SG1 s10), plus he called a subordinate (Landry) 'sir'.

I wouldn't even give S&R an exception; John was upset, but not nearly as upset as he was in the First Strike trilogy.

How might it have turned out if they hadn't fired Torri? Now that is the million-dollar question... It's AU time!

A makeover achieved by simply turning out all but three of the lights. *snerks*

They tried to hit the reset button repeatedly throughout Seasons 4 and 5. That's how they broke it.

*snerks* Well, we all know that TPTW are as bad at sticking to continuity as they are at writing decent relationships.

I hear we have a foot of snow on the way tomorrow. Come on over! And for the record, I am not happy about it. I haaaatttessss it.

And a big me too on the SGU. Who knew I could rhyme early in the morning?

                                Spoiler:
I've been reading some comments just out of curiosity to see what people think and am most annoyed puzzled by those who keep saying you can't possibly make up your mind about it by watching only half a season. WTF? It took me about 20 minutes into the pilot to realize it was not for me. But to give it a fair chance my husband and I watched 3 episodes. Then we decided to cancel the recording and get on with our lives. We quietly went away and I have not posted anything in any thread. I wonder how many more like us there are. If I had watched any more my head would have exploded. I think we gave it a fair chance and hubby was certainly in no way prejudiced because of SGA.
