I won't participate in baseball talk, I'm in mourning. The Braves are out of the playoff race.
I did FINALLY re-watch Grace Under Pressure and had to rewind the 'chocolate and peanut butter' scene about 3 times. Good ol' Sparky.
I also watched the first few minutes, pre-John possession of The Long Goodbye. There's a little moment I caught I'd not noticed before. When Elizabeth walks in with Caldwell, John is checking out something on the pod, and Carson casually says "Hello, Doctor Weir."
Watch how fast John whips around when he hears her name. Then, he notices Caldwell with her, and he keeps staring. The shot is a wide-angle and far away, so you really can't tell what's going on on his face, but it's kinda funny because he just keeps looking at them.

Torri looked like she had fun playing Phoebus, and she did it really well. The difference between her and when she 'pretends' Elizabeth is really well done. It just reminded me again how talented some of the actors really were.
I also found it amusing that NO ONE ELSE has a problem with John taking on the role of Thalen. Neither Carson, Caldwell, Rodney--none of them object, save Caldwell's one little remark about John handing over his pistol so 'an alien entity wouldn't be armed'. Not even when John mentions the fact that they were married. All the other guys are enthused to get to try this. What the heck?

Do you still have the S1 DVD's? If so, have you listened to the commentaries? Those were actually pretty good. Especially The Rising and the ones with Torri and Rachel. My fanfics:http://evil_bad_evil.livejournal.com/3389.htmlMember of the Sisterhood of the Pantster Fan Fic Writers

And please don't hate me but I never could get into BSG. The darkness repelled me every time. So I guess all us Sparkies don't march in lockstep. LOL
I can understand why you don't like BSG. I had some problems at the beginning with the darkness and the story but now I love this show.

For the comentaries: Why are you so cruel? I will never listen the commentary with Torri and Rachel. Hate France.
Can someone tells me if in the US dvds, the commentaries have french subtitle please?sigpic

TLG has Torri on it, too. It's a lot drier than Torri and Rachel's Sanctuary one, but still entertaining.sigpic

Oh Mandy, a donde esta me amiga? I have a link for you:Bribe part II
Great fics and vids y'all. Drew I'm going to put this in a spoiler so I won't ruin TLG for you.
Spoiler:This episode has some sparky. Why else would John agree to it to begin with? This episode aired when I was still in college and all us fellas thought, "That lucky son of gun." That's probably what McKay, Caldwell, and Carson all thought. And y'all know how I dig Lizzie handing out blue collar beatdowns and shooting guns
I liked BSG. It was a good drama. And SK Dirk Benedict who originated the role of Starbuck is the one who wrote the editorial about Starbuck being a girl. Of course Dirk Benedict played "Face", the biggest womanizer in TV history on "The A-Team", the most stereotypical guys show ever. And "The A-Team" is one of my favorite shows. I didn't like Starbuck, and it had nothing to do with the character being female. I thought the character was just an annoying loon.
I'll give SGU a chance. I don't want it to be a BSG type show. I think folks need to remember Stargate and BSG are two very different shows in terms of focus. Stargate started out as action and humor. This what got me into the show. It wasn't serious; it was a fun diversion. Character development in the early days of SG-1 (Think S1-S5, maybe S6) was good because they only did little bits here and there, and it was well written into the action and adventure. By S9 of SG-1 and S3 of SGA, the focus kind of went all over the place, like TPTB didn't know what to do. BSG was a borderline soap opera. I liked it, but sometimes I thought it was "The OC in space." The action was used to supplement the drama. The show stayed focused on characters and tension."I only understand about 1% of what she says half of the time."

I totally agree with you on SGU. I hope they will not attempt to copy BSG. Stargates is, like you said, "Action and humor".
Since I live in France, I would see SGU in 3 years. If French Tv wants this show.... So it's not really important.
But seriously, "OC in space"?LOLsigpic

I'm not much of a sports fan but I know the teams and who's in the playoffs/series and am happy when the Mets and Giants win.
For Baseball Elizabeth's from Washington and John's family home seems to be in Maryland so they'd probably both favor the Baltimore Orioles; DC didn't have a baseball team after the Senators left (in the early 60's?) until the Nationals (AKA Montreal Expos) moved there a few years ago. As for football - Washington Redskins. For John maybe the newer Ravens. And if he's anything like my relatives from Maryland anyone but the Indianapolis Colts; they're still angry at them leaving Baltimore with no notice.

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

And I don't trust the writers of Stargate when we talk about "character development". I will give a chance to SGU (because of Carl Binder) but I'm not excited by teasers for the moment.
I can understand why you don't like BSG. I had some problems at the beginning with the darkness and the story but now I love this show.

Now, speaking as a Southerner who long ago lost her Southern accent because I live in Northern Virginia, LOL, if you are unfamiliar with American voices you may hear an accent. But I would call Joe's just a generic educated American voice.

Ooooh! That's so cool!
*cracks up* Gee, I'll have to see if my local paper has any reviews of SGU, LOL!
Well, we know that one of John's family's homes is in Maryland; he implied that there were others in Outcast; so who knows? Maybe he likes pkprd869's beloved White Sox.
*huggles*
*cracks up again* John is so wrapped around Lizzie's little finger! And yeah, what is up with everyone not having a problem with John hosting Thalen? Not even Caldwell really cares... and let's not forget that little bit at the end where he's teasing John and Elizabeth about "that kiss." Caldwell was so loving it!
Originally posted by Southern Red View PostJoe does The Rising and has lots of intelligent things to say. He also does one of the Sieges but I don't think it's the one listed. And you get introduced to his dirty laugh. Heh.
The critic seemed to be criticizing SGU as being unoriginal and repetitive though I don't think he knows much about SciFi. He said the ship reminded him of Alien (well duh) and he points out the stereotypes like the dorky scientist. I don't know if he realizes there are no original characters/stories left in SciFi. His tone was a bit snobby and he implied if you liked the other Stargates you'll like this one. So I wouldn't pay much attention to what he said. The only critics who count are the SciFi critics IMHO. Oh, and the viewers.
My US DVD's for S1 have subtitles for the episodes but not the commentaries. Sadly.
I've heard people say before that Joe has an accent. When the show first started I think some posters spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure it out. I don't know about other Americans but I don't hear any kind of an accent. When he is speaking at cons I hear at times, but rarely, a little bit of the surfer boy laid back California in his inflection. He speaks slowly which is typical of westerners (He's from Reno, Nevada.) but doesn't have a western drawl. He went to boarding school in California and college in Colorado and has spent his adult life living in California so his voice is a mixture of that.
Now, speaking as a Southerner who long ago lost her Southern accent because I live in Northern Virginia, LOL, if you are unfamiliar with American voices you may hear an accent. But I would call Joe's just a generic educated American voice.
And for the commentary, I think I'm gonna cry. It will still a mistery for me. I hope it's not really interesting what Torri and Rachel said.sigpic
