Hey, look! Rodney's crazy-@$$ plan worked!

Oh, Lizzie's gonna give John a very good reward when they get done with that meeting in the conference room...

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon. Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.

Hah! Well hey, they probably didn't have much time since they had to go back to Taranis pretty quickly.

Good night, and pleasant Sparky dreams!

Thanks for the comments about the little ficlet/poem! Glad you all liked them.

In our top Sparky moments, it's always John who's a little over-the-top, or awkward and uncomfortable, while Elizabeth seems to keep her cool. She worries obviously, but I don't feel the same vibe from her in CG, for example, as I do from him in TRW.

She gets away with teasing him a lot in stuff like The Tower, and he seems to always be awkward about it. He does the same thing in stuff like Inferno and Misbegotten. Then, when she's compromised, he gets deliciously perturbed about it (Irresistable).

As for TLG, I love the 'promise to be discreet' line. Discreet in what regard? They're married. In that context there's discreet (as in we'll say our last goodbyes with kisses and hugs) and then discreet (as in 'I'm not going to jump you in front of everybody, only when we're alone.')

And by the way, notice how long it takes after she reassures him to head right on over to that pod.

Also, I'd love to know what Elizabeth was thinking at that point. Obviously she knew that Phoebus wasn't married to Thalen (or that they hated each other, whatever that relationship was) but she also had to be aware of the fact John was accepting playing the role of husband.
Ooo, I'd love to know too. That would have made for a very interesting conversation later. *imagines it... after they had recovered and the whole omg we tried to kill each other part of it had faded away... kinda like...

        Spoiler:
"See you later." John gave a small smile and started to walk out of the room. Elizabeth took a deep breath, staring down at the way her fingers laced together in front of her. She wasn't looking forward to this conversation, but she had to know.

        "Hey John..."

He stopped and turned around, eyebrows raised questioningly. "Yeah?"

She looked up at him. "Why did you say yes?"

He stuck his hands in his pockets and didn't say anything, but neither did he pretend not to know what she was talking about. He glanced at the wall, his lips drawing into a thin line.

Elizabeth took another deep breath and pressed on. "We didn't know she was lying at that point, and when it all comes down to it, you were essentially agreeing to..."

He shifted uncomfortably. "Well, like you said, I guess I'm a hopeless romantic. If they had been telling the truth..." He finally met her eyes. "I know that if it had been me in that situation I would have wanted a chance to say goodbye to the woman that I loved."

Elizabeth forced a smile and nodded, glancing at her hands again and wishing that she'd never brought it up. She was too preoccupied to notice the way that his gaze lingered on her intensely after the last part of his statement. Of course. He had just been being noble. Really, what else had she been expecting? Just because he had agreed to play the part of her husband didn't mean... He started speaking again and her eyes snapped up immediately to look at him. He was licking his lips nervously, looking at the wall again.

"And then there's the fact that if I didn't do it somebody else might have stepped up, and I... I wouldn't have liked it."

Elizabeth raised her eyebrows, lips parted slightly in surprise. "Wait, are you saying that you would have been... jealous?"

And that's where my inspiration for that conversation gets a little patchy. That was just a little quick, unplanned, spur of the moment thing, so it could use a little work, but that's a general idea anyway.

Does anyone know of any fics where Phoebus was telling the truth? 'Cause the Sparky aftermath of that event would have been extremely interesting too. If there aren't any then it might have to go on the list of thing to write one day.

ETA: I think Shep's a tough guy. And you know us tough guys are always the most sentimental. That's why he agreed to let another person take over his body to make Lizzie (he was under the impression Lizzie was cool with it) happy. Or... he just really wants Lizzie and this gave him an excuse. But honestly, could you really blame him if it was the latter?

Asking Lizzie to stay in whatever form is selfish indeed. I don't think asking a half human-half replicator (well she turned out to be all replicator in TMC, but John thought it was the real Lizzie) or an all replicator to stick around is putting the city above anything. I don't think and obvious security risk walking about is putting the city first. We know John goes against the military grain often, but breaking this one makes it patently obvious he's after what he wants. I leave GiTM at that. (Y'all already know how I feel about that episode.)
Nice little fic! Sparky and the beach, woohoo!

But, like you, I dislike people who make up unsubstantiated arguments to suit their own needs. If you don't like a particular episode, that's fine--but don't pretend it's not there. You make a better case arguing your side (and you look smarter) when you know the facts and can then discuss what you think they mean. You don't like the shippy implications of John giving Elizabeth a birthday gift? Fine! For you, it's just a gift, he being a good friend to his co-worker, because John IS that kind of guy. But you can't pretend that scene doesn't exist. Please. *headdesk*

And I adore when shipping does turns out better than expected. I don't ship anymore because I get tired of arguments and meanness and general angst over sunk ships, but every once in a while I get a peach that turns out right. I wouldn't say that was the case for Sparky, but considering everything, it could have been much worse and I'm grateful for what it is now (though I still have a little trepidation about the film).
Yeah, I agree with you and SR. I can see where people are coming from when they say they're just friends, and I don't have a problem with it. If they don't see the potentially romantic side of things then that's fine, but they are friends, and you can't tell me otherwise.

Yeah, we should. Can't think of any right now though. Anybody got any ideas?

Also, loved TLG report Probie! Very funny, and I like your explanation of the "more than you know" line. I am now going to interpret it that way, 'cause that makes sense. I couldn't get around that before, but now I can and I can watch that scene without scowling at the screen, yay!

Oh, I love that! John would so be jealous and all bashful about it when Lizzie confronted him. Heehee!

Fics where Phoebus was telling the truth? You betcha! Here's one:

Saying Goodbye, by Oparu. And it's appropriately smutty for Smut Day, too!

I haven't been able to think of a cute reference to a non-canon ship.

I've found a few American colloquialisms, though:

Plain as the nose as one's face
                  Plain as day

Either of these inspire something funny (like 'anvil') for obvious shippy moments in a ship that is not a canon-ship?

I thought we could then ship the idea to The Shipyard and help them create a whole new category.

Bwahaha! (btw hello thread. Long time no see. I must catch up with everything going on here).

A shippy moment in a non canon ship that can't be ship makes sense as much as a chocolate cake without chocolate. I know, it's reverse logic, but so many things Stargate seem to work on reverse logic.

I have a fic rec - not happy, but hopeful and it comes with an awesome fanmix of music -- As you are now (and ever again) by hihoplastic.

But help me a bit? There's an idea I'm mulling over, so I'll ask you what you think. It's Return related - imagine Elizabeth and everyone else stayed on Earth. Do you think Elizabeth would try to cut her links to anything Stargate program related and do a job as a diplomat again?

Based on how she was written in The Return, I'd say she would probably even go back to teaching and avoid anything that would remind her of the SG program. Even being a diplomat might be hard on her.

Yes, she'd try but ultimately fail when she kept running into things that reminded her. And I doubt Carson at least would let her forget. He seems like the sort to keep pestering her.

I do think that Elizabeth would cut herself off from anything SG related. Elizabeth was so completely connected to Atlantis and the expedition that I think, if faced with the reality of never returning, she would decide that the only way she could realistically survive that would be to completely separate from it. I don't think Elizabeth would be satisfied with a peripheral connection to Atlantis and her people.

NOW, having said that.....I think that's what Elizabeth would decide she HAD to do in order to survive, but I don't think she would be successful at cutting herself off. Her friends wouldn't let her go that easily (despite what TPTW seemed to think).

I like the way you're explaining it. I think that her readyness to sacrifice herself is also connected to the way she thinks and feels in regard to Atlantis. Atlantis is her everything, and if you take everything away, nothing remains. She was having a very hard time in Return. But also, if Atlantis is threatened, then nothing else is important, not even her own life.
