Elizabeth Weir/John Sheppard Appreciation/Ship/Discussion Thread
This thread is pretty active today/night/afternoon.lol
We are still far from the end of this thread.
You have a "hello" from my mom and my dad hates you (and me).lol My mom can't stop talking about SGA. My dad can't stand her.lol In 6 days, she will be in France and she can't wait to watch Adrift.
So Sparky is still alive and strong. We have new members even after the end of the show.
Uh oh, Probie!Dad hates us. Well, we'll just have to work harder at converting him. LOL!

Sparky is on screen. Therefore, it is canon.Elizabeth is still out there. And John WILL bring her home.
The ship is usually just like in Bones where there are ups and downs and some lovely shippy moments but you just know they are going to get together in the end so you relax and enjoy the ride. But one like Sparky that's not intended but captures so much attention, I can't think of.
Yes, and that makes it hard for me to really compare. Many times a show tends to be written around a male/female lead pairing (Castle, JAG, Farscape), and while I don't object to that necessarily, it does create a different dynamic than a pairing within an ensemble show, especially an unintended one such as this was. However.....
Driving around this afternoon I was thinking about the question and flipping through my mental rolodex of Shows I Have Watched, and I did trip across a pairing that I think is at least somewhat comparable. You all may throw rotten fruit at me , but... I think Mac/Stella on CSI: NY would be the closest pairing comparable in my mind to Sparky. The two are best friends and partners even though technically Mac is Stella's boss. I think they have great chemistry and I really enjoy their friendship (Stella is my favorite character on the show). However, as far as I'm aware there are no plans to pair them up romantically - CSI does not seem to like to pair up their male and female leads the way many other shows do. And I'm fine with them being just friends - I have no need for them to be paired up, but at the same time, their relationship is such that I'm not sure I would mind if the writers did decide to take it that way sometime in the future. I don't know if that makes sense or not.
As far as fan following - I'm not sure how that compares. I'm not involved in the fandom even though I watch the show. Most of the comments I see on news sites tend to relate more to the Danny/Lindsay pairing, so I'm not sure how popular Mac/Stella is in the fandom. But anyway...there's my answer to Anuna's question - Mac/Stella is the couple I would most compare to Sparky.

*cackles* Hey, didn't I just say the other day that John and Elizabeth are always at their hottest when facing certain doom? We're just following their lead, after all.
*dies laughing*
Oh, and speaking of spamming (or not), SyFy is running an all-day Eureka marathon, so there's no SGA rerun today. In fact, they won't be back until Tuesday.
Yes, I flipped on Sci Fi SyFy at 5 o'clock and there was Eureka. After a moment of stunned disappointment, we put on one of our S2 DVD's of Prison Break and all was well. Now that's a well written show.
We did get it pretty damn good, didn't we? I've pointed out before how Sparky as it stands now has some marked echoes of medieval romantic literature and the concept of courtly love. The unrequited love from afar for someone who is unattainable... and you can't get any more unattainable than being dead (or, in Lizzie's case, presumed dead). It may not be what I'd prefer for John in the end, but I'll take it. She's touched his heart and soul in such a way that even separated by death, he's still devoted to preserving her legacy. Instead of dying for her, he'll live for her. Damn, that's hot.
And everybody saw the connection. It's canon and it won't change.
Well, guys and gals, I am out! Thank you once again for the fun discussion! Special shout out to my fellow football fans...
Southern Red: Hokie, Hokie, Hokie Hii! Go Hokies! (I'll be watching that one!)
Scary Kitty: Go Trojans!!!
PKPRD: Uh...give me a minute...
Uh...
Uh...
Go... *licks lips like John*
Go...
Go Vols!
THERE! Okay! Have fun this first weekend of football, and for my international/non-football loving Sparky friends, have a great, great weekend!
*squees, runs in circles and squees some more* We have the VT banner flying from our flagpole. Our t-shirts are clean and ready for tomorrow. Now we just have to wait until 8 pm. I hope the tide doesn't roll over us too badly.

I didn't think about them. I love Mac/Stella and they do seem to be getting closer. I doubt there will ever be romance and I'm okay with that, but I love them together. Though the Sparky heat just isn't there. I also love Danny/Lindsay but there wasn't a terrible lot of angst and they had a happy ending so that ship proves the theory that once you get RST it's pretty much boring. But they are and always will be simply adorable.

LOL - that reminds me of the first TV couple I really shipped, Lois and Clark from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures - although I knew nothing of online fandom at that point. I adored that pairing (and might possibly have had a tiny crush on Dean Cain) but....they rushed that pairing far far too fast in my inexpert opinion. I've never been able to finish the last season where they're married.

ITA, I loved that show and my husband had a tiny crush on Teri Hatcher which may explain why he watches Desperate Housewives.LOL I traded her for Joe Flanigan.Dean Cain remains adorable. I just saw today that he was on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? raising money for charity. I hope he won.

I have to work the hated afternoon shift (3-11) so no football for me
SK I would like to see USC make strong run, so they have to play a real team in a bowl game. Beating up on the slow as molasses Big-10 is getting old. I would love to see how the "Men of Troy" fair against the likes of Florida, Texas, or the Sooners. Eri I do want the 'Dogs to beat the OSU Cowboys, they did steal our colors after all. I will almost always cheer on an SEC team (Yes I even wanted the Gators to beat the Sooners) but here's the exception:
GO VT, Roll the 'Tide!
ETA: With football season upon us, I could have some fun with the lions, tigers, and bears (DA BEARS DA BEARS DA BEARS) prompt. But I have to get ready for work.
"I only understand about 1% of what she says half of the time."
YAY! Very cute and I love it. And as a parent myself, I felt John's pain. Hehehehe.
And, no worries on the word limit. I said drabble just to make it easy for people. You can write as much (or as little) as you like!
Thanks!
And it's a good thing that 'drabble' isn't binding, because I sat down to type something for the 'Always and Forever' prompt, intending to do another little scene, and this is what came out. Not a drabble at all - a not-quite-a-drabble poem. My muse has a mind of its own apparently.
From John's POV:
Spoiler:
When all’s said and done,
When the war is all won,
Standing out in the air,
Moonlight on your hair…
We’ll stand side by side,
And they’ll never divide
Because they can’t know
What it takes to let go.
I reach for your hand,
And it’s all I can stand
To see you so hurt,
Soul laid low in the dirt.
You’re mine to protect,
And this brand new effect
Has done something to me,
‘Cause you’re all I can see.
I smile and you look,
Guess that’s all that it took.
Your eyes shine much brighter,
My heart’s now much lighter.
It’s such total peace,
And it never can cease.
Because we’re together,
Always and forever.
Thanks!

Sparky drabble prompts - pick your favorite and write a quickie!
Defending her honor.
Are we there yet?
I'm too sexy for my shirt.
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
A jeep and a sunny day in the mountains.
Island retreat.
Always and forever.
Now I have to try this. Well it came out more like 3 drabbles in one but here it is.
Spoiler:
“Here McKay, cut the crap and put this on.” Ronon smacked Rodney on the back of the head in perfect imitation of his team leader and thrust a uniform shirt into his hands.
Rodney, standing bare chested and giggling, made no move to actually put the garment on. Instead he twirled it in one hand and giggled some more.
“Why did you let him drink that stuff?” Ronon glared over at John who was removing his vest and hanging it in its proper place.
“Like I could have stopped him,” John replied calmly, ignoring the increasing stream of gibberish that was coming from McKay's mouth.
But when he started singing, Ronon moved to take matters into his own hands and force the scientist into his shirt.
“Wait a minute, wait wait,” Rodney begged as he snapped his fingers ineffectually and turned toward John. “I'm trying to think of something. You know that song. That song about how I'm too something something.” More attempted finger snapping.
John grimaced. “You mean I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt?”
“Really now Colonel? Then why is Rodney the only one who is shirtless?”
Neither of the men had seen Elizabeth Weir appear at the door. Teyla must have tattled. That traitor. Ronon paused in his attempt to force Rodney's head through the opening of his shirt and raised his eyebrows at John. Rodney grinned in delight that the mystery was finally solved and started singing loudly. And John. John winced as if in pain and swiveled his body slowly toward his boss who was trying in vain to hide what looked like a combination of a smirk and a grin.
“I didn't..I mean...it isn't...it was uh...dammit McKay, shut the hell up.”
“Don't worry John.” Elizabeth finally was able to say something without laughing. “I wasn't exactly disagreeing.”

Eeeek! I love being the exception. From your mouth to God's ears but everybody is expecting us to lose.
Thanks!
